We enjoy road tripping in southern Africa and want to capture something better than a continuous, boring dash cam video. This is a unique style of "timelapse" dashcam video - a minute by minute series of video clips. Boring clips are not discarded - this is what it really feels like! But 20X faster than in real life.
The camera automatically records for 3 seconds every minute of the journey. The camera is controlled by a hacked remote control which has a microprocessor added to it. (We can manually trigger the camera to record if something interesting is spotted)

Hey, I will be visiting cape town very soon and planning to drive from there to mossel bay. I heard and read about how it can get dangerous on n2 when passing by airport/townships. Can I use the N1? Is it safer? Just wants to be on the safe side and dont make a mistake on n2
What did you end up doing? We are doing this in 3 weeks
@@PaigeSmith-v8u I’m here in CT right now. I took the N1 from CT waterfront to garden route and back. It is very safe, never had any issues. The scenery is so beautiful!!!!

My nerves are shot...at the speed! I kept thinking if a dog or child ran out...especially on bo Piketberg, with the school on the road...! Pity these trips aren't recorded in Spring, when the world is green! There is a small pass through Piketberg mountain from Sauer, into Kapteinskloof and goes north to Redelinghuys and back to Piketberg. Also turns left to Aurora.Lovely to go slow, open the window and have mountain right there, the fynbos herbs coming into car. Nice for people to experience.

Yes, it is Mostert's Mill, built in 1796. It suffered a devastating fire 3 years ago, but they have just finished restoration.

Great scenery on a fantastic late summer's day. That West Coast Road can be monotonous, but nice to see an upgraded padstal to break the journey.
