The Good Doctor tries to present a positive picture of autism, and indeed one is needed. But the show relies on a stereotype of someone with Savant Syndrome; otherwise the character is not sympathetic enough for TV audiences. Temple Grndin is an example of a successful, high functioning, brilliant sutistic person. However, Shawn Murphy's savant is depicted as far higher. Most often, the super-savant is also someone with very poor social skills, far worse than Shawn Murphy's. Outside of a very narrow ability, they cannot function without 24 hour supervision - but that doesn't work for television. I have personally met bright physicians who have mild autism (Asperger Disorder). They are very competent technically, but their bedside manner needs a lot of work. Nonetheless, they are positive contributors. But none of them are the stereotype savant portrayed here. The show is not exactly doing the service the producers think it is.

Watching this video reminds me of when I taught cook's to learn the kitchen and how it works and unfortunately different types of Cuisines since they didn't have the money for CULINARY SCHOOL. I am happy that they are CHEFS now. All of them are married and have kids as they can support them and they still live in QUEENS and they can go on vacation and not worry about anything. I trained them and it does not bother me at all. They can hold their own as I will back any of them. I taught them speed and to be accurate in their decisions. Their is a difference between a cook and a CHEF, cook's follow and CHEFS lead.

These kind are in a world of their own. If their unique and very special talents are put to good use they make this world a better place, I know so. Here's to my other half, I'm am so blessed having you in my life. 🥂🍾

The Good Doctor was super good the first 2 season. 3 was still pretty good but after that there was a huge fall off

I have a son who is definitely on the spectrum. He is nothing like this. I have a cousin who is aspergers. He is nothing like this. My stepson is probably on the spectrum and he is nothing like this, either. This portrayal is a small percentage of autism.
