    Have you tried priming your muzzle loader with a bit of real black powder? I've only done this with 777 pellets but my buddy used that method with a granular substitute (100gr Pyrodex I think) and it works great for eliminating that slight hangfire you get when it's 40 degrees below zero up in MN, he claims there's noticeably more recoil for him and better accuracy, but I didn't notice any big difference in either department. I use 3 50 grain 777 pellets over about 10 grains of FF black powder, no more "click........Boom".

    You missed a very important part when taking off the stock. There is a screw holding going thru the back you need to remove before poundin off that stock or you’ll just beat the hell outta ur hand and eventually snap the entire bolt. ** if you’re going to make a disassembly video you should really pay attention to details like that or else you are just doing more harm than good. Besides that good effort 6/10

    • @suburbanhunt3653

      Thank you for watching. However in this 720 there is no stock bolt. If you look closely at 4:10 just prior to removing the action spring you can see there are no threads. Some models do have a stock bolt as evidenced by Googling "Savage 720 Part diagram". It is my understanding that models with a bolt were made later. I can appreciate your concern. Please know that I would not skip or miss any step in taking the firearm apart. If yours had a bolt and this video caused you "harm" then I truly apologize. Thank you for commenting and happy hunting.

    Thats definitely OCW. Ladder is .2 of a grain incrementally. Typically in a 10-20 shot string recording velocities then plotting them on a chart. To see a flat spot or ‘node’. So you can be .2 off up or down and get consistent results. Regardless. 80gns for the win! Excellent content! Thank you!

    • @suburbanhunt3653
      @suburbanhunt3653 Před 14 dny

      Optimal Charge Weight. Well. Thank you for that. Looks like I have some learning to do on the methods. The guy that started me out on reloading always called this a ladder test. That was incorrect. So truly thank you. It was not my intent to mislead anyone on the title. The video I just watched the guy ran 50.0gn through 51.8gn and only took one shot per weight. Given the inconsistencies in velocities with a 3-5 round group of the same weight, that doesn't seem like the best test. When you run a ladder how many rounds per weight are you running? Also it would seem that using OCW would work to give you a starting point for a ladder test. Your thoughts?

    I come to believe that your bore diameter has a lot to do with how well some pellets shoot. If the bullet is .500 and your bore is .503, it won't bite into the rifling as well as if your bore were to be .500 or .501. If you are using a sabot, the bullet is actually a .450 cal projectile. The sabot is what connects to create the spin. The bullet can easily start to wobble.

    • @suburbanhunt3653
      @suburbanhunt3653 Před 19 dny

      The bore size definitely make a difference. When I was testing the Thor projectiles I saw just that. The projectiles were the same weight just a different bore size. .501, .500, and .499 They each shot but the group proved .500 was the correct size for the better group. Then I used the bore sizing kit from Thor and found my bore had the best grooves with the .500. Then you have the projectile leaving the sabot. I can't believe that that transition doesn't effect the flight. Thank you for watching and commenting.

    My experience with muzzle loaders and the powder pellets is after 100 grain the bullets are def not as accurate as just using 100 grains. Saves you a pellet per shot and from my experience 100 grain does the job very nice. I’ve killed several deer at around 200 yards with 100 grains and powerbelt 245 grain. Thanks for the comparison

    Since BH209 is now selling at North of $120 per pound, I came up with some Low-Pressure Smokeless loads for my factory muzzleloaders. "Low Pressure 50 Caliber Smokeless Loads in a 209 Factory Muzzleloader", 2 DVD set | eBay These 2 DVDs contain a demonstration of using Low Pressure Smokeless Loads in a 50 caliber factory muzzleloader. Savage Arms proved over 20 years ago that a factory muzzleloader can use smokeless powder. A retired Science Teacher/Gunsmith/Inventor used a strain gauge glued to a rifle barrel and the Pressure Trace II computer interface to compare the pressures produced by Blackhorn209 propellant to pressures which can be produced by ten different smokeless powders. These ten smokeless powders do not contain the corrosive oxidizers which can rust a rifle barrel. The loads developed produced a pressure equal to or less than that of 84 grains by weight of Blackhorn209, which a common Black Powder substitute made up of 83% smokeless powder (nitrocellulose). However, Blackhorn209 does contain corrosive chemicals. These loads were then fired in a factory inline muzzleloader with a shank diameter of about one inch. These DVDs are sold for entertainment purposes only. The producer cannot guarantee these loads will work safely in all factory 209 muzzleloaders.

    Great video and a very extensive test for sure! I had great accuracy results with my CVS ACCURA with two bullets touching at 50 yards with 290 gr. Hornady Bore Driver bullets and both White Hots & T 7 Firestarters. I was however disappointed that my one deer I shot back in 2022 gave me a very long chase, and I had to finish her off when I finally located the deer. I'm sure it was shot placement and not the accuracy of the round. That said, I've had good accuracy results with THOR and also Federal B.O.R Locks as well. I only shoot pellets and only use two as I find it's not necessary here in New England to use the 150-grain loadings. Nice job on this test!

    The Pyrodex test especially, are those keyhole shots ?

      Sorry about the image quality. I would say yes. The ad-normal tear leans itself to keyhole. I have seen worst but any instability will cause accuracy issues.

    Right now I'm sticking with the FTX's . Something about the duplex bullet just doesn't ring my bell. I like simple, that works good you know things you can count on.

      @@1Whitetail I have the agree. I loved the ELD-X. The FTX did the job but that ELD-X dropped her hard. Plus it’s seems to be the most accurate for me so far.

    Very interesting results. I had the complete opposite results with my muzzleloader. I will start saying I’ve never been a big pellet user. I’ve always used loose powder but did very limited testing with pellets. I’m running a TC Pro Hunter Encore. I’ve been getting 1” or better groups with it. The differences between your setup to mine is A. I run a small rifle primer conversion B. I use triple seven fffg loose powder (105gr) C. I clean barrel between each shot to make every shot as consistent as possible I had higher hopes for this bullet but I’ve haven’t went into depth like this with pellets. It’s good info to have in your back pocket though. If anyone has any further questions post and I will get them answered when I can. Thanks again for doing the pellet test on this bullet.

      @@jasongerard8098 Can’t thank you enough for the projectiles. Using loose powder is a HUGE ADVANTAGE!!!! If anyone is going to use these I would highly recommend going with loose powder. I do plan on doing a gel test with to see how the expansion is. Thank you again brother.

      @@suburbanhunt3653 not a problem at all. Thanks for burning the powder to see how these did in your rifle.

      Great feedback. Thanks. Every muzzleloader is different. Are you set up for smokeless, and is the 105 grains of T7 (V)olume or (W)eighed?
