I am 18 and have gone through 3 cashier jobs (only part-time jobs available that isn’t waitress or receptionist) and I have gotten fired for my drawer being short multiple times (biggest is $20) I have social anxiety and with the customers rambling, my first instinct is to get them out so I just try to give them close to the money without counting twice. I’ve received a lot of negative feedback from older people since I take too much time trying to count.

Your a life saver, I am a carhop at Sonic and now I know how to do this to an extent.

Im 23 and the idea of counting back change seems simple but also hard. I dont have a problem counting back full dollar amounts, the change is the confusing part. Just break the change down until you get to the dollar amount, then do the bills. Cant always rely on a calculator but I keep my phone with me just to be sure.

You know what you gotta learn to be more patient. It was wrong of you to tell her that the change from a $20 bill if the total was $16.50 was not $4.50 if not $3.50

I’m 19 and I want to work at a store behind the counter, I know now how to bag items because my mom and brother taught me but I have ocd and I can’t always count, plus I haven’t used money since I was 10 years of age usually my parents would give me the money

Thank you for people like you. Rather than judging the girl, you helped her. I have struggled with counting back change for a long time because I’ve never been good with math in general. Even my own family members who saw that I was struggling with this concept at a young age decided to act like I was stupid instead of trying to teach me. I am 18 now and I am trying to master this skill so I won’t have another embarrassing incident at my next job. They are not teaching us this in school, and it’s extremely important.

I wish you could have been one of my customers. When this happened to me I was 23 I'm 24 currently. And I have been shamed so much because I didn't know how to count back change. The majority of the people doing the shaming were older or elder people. If I had a customer like you it would have warmed my heart.

It’s the change part that gets me Ik this is old and I’m very slow for not knowing this haha Edit: soooo I’ve gotten a job now it’s a froyo shop so I have no choice but to cashier my tip for others if ur like me is to just do it the regular way i find that helps me a lot more but u don’t have to also working at a slow pace place helps don’t start off with fast food
