Hey as a woodworker / beekeeper I have some advice. Don't put sealer on the parts of the dovetails that you are going to glue. Heard it from a friend. LOL

As far as I'm concerned, once they started walking in, you could have zoomed in just a tad and just let it run. They were going in, the grass wasn't in there way at all really. I love watching the natural progression of them moving into a box but I get that you have to monitor them and you don't have the time I do. Someone must have ran out of energy flying and crash landed. It's so odd how fast your bees move onto those frames. Maybe it's because you're leaving more honey on them than most others do.

Wow...I watch more my fair share of capture videos and I can tell you that I have NEVER seen bees act so instantly to a frame when you put the first one up there. It was lime they recognized it, knew what it was, knew what you were doing and were moving from the top down to get to it. You could have put that box on the garbage can and walked away (with the camera running of course!) I have watched at least 200 swarm videos, at least, and I never saw that.

looks like you didnt compact your hives down and put a foam winter jacket on the hive close the entrance a little turn the entrance away from the cold winds and rain which ever way they come from can also build a rain free area that lets the sun in ive actually seen a wall of bee hives and straw bales with polcarbonate roof porches in the alpine australia was cute painted up like little bee apartments lol

How much fruit does a tree that size produce?

Lost every bee in my hive, did not survive the winter added foam insulation before we had our near zero degree days, left on until the beginning of February. Bees had plenty of honey. Guess I buy another colony and try again? Live Northeast of Cincinnati Ohio.

FYI, cold virtually never kills healthy bees. North of you in Fort Wayne, loat 2 hives out of 40, no insulation. Another member of our club lost 1 out of over 100 this winter. I would review my mite treatment regimen if I were you. If you have any remaining dead bees you could do a mitr wash. Also check empty cells for white crystalline mite fras. We do multiple mite treatments in the fall and again in the winter after broodless. Good luck. Glenn

I sympathize with you guys who have to over winter bees. No such worries out here in the Caribbean. Our biggest problem is swarming because we have Africanized bees to deal with. 😂
