Dude, thank you for extremely clear, concise content. Just what I needed.
Thank you! This video is great! I enjoyed that it was short and concise, by emphasizing on the main differences.
Great video
Thanks!
Headphone hack was great!
what will happen if enable power for 2040 ? it will damage the mic ?
Excellent demonstration of functioning of these devices and the other products needed to maximize their use.
The volumen of this audio interface is really bad!!. I'm planning to replace it soon. It is very good looking, and well built and the sounds is actually good, but yes ther are better options.
This feature is no longer a thing which it sucks
I use two 2020's for years now for recording and live. The most versatile mic in my collection. It's just amazing.
Just finished the video, this is the opposite of suck! Wish more youtubers were like you. Cheers!
🙏 thanks, it means a lot!
very informative! Holy cow i learned so much.
2040 sounds like dogshit to me. Glad I listened to this before purchasing
Thanks! Would you use it in place of a dedicated UAD 1176 compressor plugin for voiceover?
Awesome
wonderful video, you seem very authentic. great video!
Thanks!
2040 suuuucks😂
still looking for a Volt Motu showdown -- great review!
great info man, thanks
You just need Alot more blacklight shining down, but Excellent work!
are we just going to skip over just how freaking cool that headset for a mic trick was what the freaking heck dude
😉
@@llllMillsthat was honestly sick didn't know that!
damn the headphone trick got me !! so cool

Much appreciated, thanks! And I'm glad it was helpful :)
what's better for mixing video audio and podcasts : the volt 2 or the volt 276?
Mixing? They're both great. Recording? I prefer the 276 bc of the built in compressors for the mic.
when plugged into a Mac Studio ultra are any extra accessories needed other than xls to mic ? it comes with all cords ? also how good is the free $299 software they offer with it till the end of the year ?@@llllMills
I have an at2020, have done for ages now but i need to get a mic arm, struggling to understand which ones to avoid, there seem to be so many around but i just want one that can clamp down and be able to pull towards me and away from me easily when i'm recording videos.
I just grabbed a cheap one on Amazon ($30-$50 range) and it has worked great for the past 2 years. The brand is Puroma if that helps. I will say that if I hit the desk pretty hard, noise travels up through the arm into the mic. I bet that happens with any arm, but I also haven't tried really expensive ones.
@@llllMills hi, thanks for the reply, it's mostly just putting my drink down on the table or something that bangs the mic but it would be much easier to have it right in front of me, i'll take a look at that mic arm and see how it looks, thanks.
Well Dude, I have it too but what's about MIDI ? I was traing to connect it with my Roland S1 via MIDI Yesterday. It was in vain ...
MIDI works great for me on the Mac. I connect it to my external synthesizers no problem.
@@llllMills Well I was traing to get my Roland S1 connected via MIDI to GarageBand and it was without a result unfortunatly. If you ll prescribe the way you did it, thx.
Love the content.
🙏
Bro, without looking at the video you kinda lowkey sounds like elon. I thought for a second "elon reviews mics now?" Anyways Great review! Thanks!
😂
Just install loopback for volume control
I wouldn't buy a UA Volt 276 if it wasn't supposed to produce music, honestly. I was kind of confused when you compared it to Motu M2 and Focusrite. But then I understood that you're analyzing it on the perspective of vlogging. Because, in the perspective of music production, the fact that the Volt 276 has Universal Audio's vintage preamp circuit and a compressor based on the classic 1176 model built in, makes it incomparable to any basic interface like Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. And this is because those circuits are not only to prevent clipping. Those circuits in the Volt 276, actually, are going to deliver analog saturation to the audio, which is very pleasant to the ears and impossible to achieve with digital processing. So, if you are not a musician, I do not recommend you to buy this interface. Just stick with any normal audio interface and use very low input gain to prevent clipping. In my opinion, the Volt 276 was made for low budget producers, who can't afford to buy analog equipment, but also wants to apply some analog color/saturation to their recordings.
Having the compressor on is great though. Instant radio voice for videos, streams, etc.
@@DerRabenbarde Tottally. I agree. However, if you're on low budget, and you also don't actually need the "analoggy" sound of the UA Volt 276, you can use any regular "cheap" digital audio interface, record your voice with low input gain and apply any zero latency digital compressor plugin to smoothen the audio dynamics and then amplify it to the desired volume. You'll basically have the same effect of the UA Volt 276. You can even configure the compressor to be on default in your recording app. You just won't have the analog saturation, which, for general use, is not necessary in my opinion
@@DerRabenbarde Would you use that for voiceover recordings, in place of an UAD 1176 plugin?
Great and clear explanation my friend!! Thanks!!
Thanks! Glad I could help
Thank you
I pick up AT2040. It sounds fuller, not budier. I do not like the driness of AT2020.
Great video! I just picked up the AT2020
I wish the phantom for mic did not apply to all inputs once engaged. Next version would be nice if it had six or eight channels and included adat .
The VOLT 476 has more inputs. :)
Main purpose of my mic is for zoom calls and i tried several condenser microphones but it is too sensitive. So i got the 2040 and i am happy with it.
I want to record my written poetry professionally. Suggest me a good audio interface and microphone. But my room is not sound proof. The sound from outside comes inside our room. My total budget is $350. Many people told me to take a dynamic mic. Can I mix it after recording with dynamic mic? Like in condenser mic.
Any audio interface in the $150-$200 range will do fine. Go for a dynamic microphone instead of a condenser. The Audio technica is $99.
@@llllMillsThanks Sir, Can I get sound likhe this ??????👇 czcams.com/users/shortspBJdvpQtNZA?feature=share
Thank you very much ! Thanks to you I could finally stream with a good microphone .
do you make beats or something the music behind you is amazing!
Thanks! I do make the music in my videos. I currently release under two names: Dudd, fogboi
@@llllMills Nice! do you sell your beats somewhere i can check out?
Damn confused between this and Audient iD14 mkii.... Just for the preamps... I know that the compressors are a +
I have the iD4 MKII, which on paper has even slightly better performance than the iD14 MKII. And it rocks... I'm a bit torn between getting the Volt 176 or keeping this. Sadly, none of the Volt series members have loopback recording.
Wow I should try this. Technology is amazing!
thanks for this
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
How did you release your XLR cable? did you notice after you plug your XLR in it is impossible to pull it out? You will never have access to use that channel with TRS Quarter inch input. I have 2 Volts a 4/76 and a 2/76 my XLR cables a permanently locked in. They have no release tab.
Hahah use your muscles. They come out.
Great Video! I think i'll go for the AT2020 for my first xlr mic :D keep it up
Sweet and thanks!
2020 is amazing for me.
Those cinematic, high quality shots made me watch the whole video... and I don't even need a mic. You, sir, keep up the great work and will get the audience you deserve!
Much appreciated, thank you! 🙏

I've never seen a windscreen used as a pop filter. They definitely have different materials for different purposes so I'm not sure how much it changed each microphone sonically. This video was super helpful though! The AT2040's we have tend to have a lot of noise bleed in our podcast, so maybe we'll try the 2020
Agreed. A windscreen does not function as a pop filter unless the air puffs are super light. It made no audible difference in this demonstration. It popped anyway. If you have noise bleed, you may wish to change out to some dynamic mics.
Yeah 2020 will be worse for you if you are having noise bleed into the mics currently using 2040s. Perhaps some room treatment will help, or positioning your talent differently or something. Dynamic mics will absolutely be better at an open room layout podcast type situation. Look at any of the ones here on CZcams. The Shure SM7B is a heavy hitting hero for a reason. You could try the cheaper Shure SM57, with the extra Shure A2WS locking windscreen, to help with rejection.
I hear waaa waaa waaa my volume wont work. Are you trying to be a serious You tuber?
2023 let’s run it back
What is your favorite ? this Volt or the Motu M2 ??
I'm going to have to go with the Volt. What are you thinking?
@@llllMills I hesitate between the two 😅 I like the sound of the Motu, and I like the UA Volt because UA made finaly a interface without DSP ! What you think about the quality output phone amp ? Which one are better for you ?
@@JasonicIR8 I don't remember hearing a difference between the headphone amps. Both had plenty of power for my 250ohm 770's
@@llllMills A big thanks for your answer ! I m think I will take the Motu :)
