Eric Borden
United States
Registrace 26. 03. 2019
Eric has worked in the blue-collar industry for 16 years and is a member of the Local 101 Operators’ Union. Eric has an incredibly strong work ethic and an even stronger admiration for others that work hard at what they do. Writing poetry became a hobby of Eric's in grade school. As he grew up, he recited his poems at weddings and funerals of close friends. To this day, whether he's on lunch break on a jobsite or among friends at a campfire, Eric has a poem to recite without ever having written it down. After hearing someone refer to people who don't go to college as "ditch diggers" in a not-so-flattering way, Eric was inspired to write a powerful poem that reversed the negative connotation of blue-collar workers. Eric's poem has inspired many individuals in and out of skilled trades by shining a light on the importance of people who build this world and love what they do. In turn, it inspires acts of kindness, which is how #ThankADitchDigger was born.

Ditch Diggers Poem by: Eric Borden Visit our website at: ericbordenpasturepoet.com For centuries, poetry has been categorized by genre. We all learned about different types of poetry in grade school. Thank You Son for this fine Poem, As a Crane Operator for 54 Years I am proud to be a Blue Collar Man. <3
You are the 1% not many people have it in them to make a career that long, I work with a 72 year old pipe fitter/welder, I respect the hell out of him for showing up everyday
Eric. This resonates so much. Appreciate all you and your fellow operators do.

Thanks for the compliments. I do not get on here much so I apologize for my late reply.
You see like the song by David Allen coe “you don’t have to call me darlin” I’d say you haven’t wrote the perfect song because you didn’t mention anything about MILLWRIGHTS , sheet metal workers, or the time away from our families , and the pain we cause our body so send me the next verse - KC 1 5 2 9
I wish I could have put every trade in there. Maybe like Johnny Cash “I’ve Been Everywhere”. No disrespect to any trade not mentioned, just did what I could. Sorry for the late response. Do not get on here a lot. EB

👍 Eric...IBEW Local 58
The greatest honor I had was serving this country in the U.S. Air Force. I also got skills and learned a trade in telecommunications. I think trades are forgotten especially what the military can teach you in. A lot of these kids now out of high school want to youtube stars unfortunately. Learn a skill, master a trade. It can open doors to so many opportunities.
My whole family is ditch diggers we have made our living pouring concrete. We aren't union , we do it all. I'm proud of my pappaw , my dad people that taught me. .my great uncle and my cousin for keeping the company going. I love my job

What a fantastic video. Well spoken Eric! You show the true meaning of the great industry in which so many of us work. This has been shown to our entire company, at our recent State of the Company address. It is time to show that great careers can be made in the construction industry. Not everyone wants to go to college. Thank you for your talent and efforts in putting this out!

As a construction worker myself, I deeply and sincerely thank you for making this video. My company shared this vid at our quarterly safety meeting today and it really hit home. I hope it goes viral.
Ive got a couple friends who have college degrees who dont make what i make as a high school drop out, when they were still living mommy and daddys money, i was out sweating it the heat in the petrochemical industry. Thank you sir. The first time i heard this poem was during a tough time in my life.
Same here man it gave me so much gratitude during that time we build america !!!
And I'm willing to bet you are living a more fulfilling life than they can ever hope to achieve.
You be Proud of Who and What You are Son.
I've watched this WELL over 100x and shared it with all walks of life. It never gets old seeing, reading, and experiencing people's response to this poem. I watch literal goosebumps come over people, tears, and laughter of love on how well this brings the reality of the respect and love we ALL must have for our "Ditch Diggers". They're hero's, no different than our teachers, firefighters, military, and police officers. This message is a game changer that can and WILL help bridge our country together on how much we need all walks of life to keep our great country moving forward. God Bless you Eric Borden!
This is just amazing I'm at work on my break a union charpenter and I got chills the first time I heard this
Incredibly under viewed. It’s this mentality, this choice of semantics that could bridge the divide in our nation. I have a speech into make come November. It’s for the Veterans Resource Center at my college. I would really like to read this poem if I had your permission.
