Signs of Winter by John Clare
Signs of Winter by John Clare
The cat runs races with her tail. The dog
Leaps oer the orchard hedge and knarls the grass.
The swine run round and grunt and play with straw,
Snatching out hasty mouthfuls from the stack.
Sudden upon the elmtree tops the crow
Unceremonious visit pays and croaks,
Then swops away. From mossy barn the owl
Bobs hasty out--wheels round and, scared as soon,
As hastily retires. The ducks grow wild
And from the muddy pond fly up and wheel
A circle round the village and soon, tired,
Plunge in the pond again. The maids in haste
Snatch from the orchard hedge the mizzled clothes
And laughing hurry in to keep them dry.

I Shall Keep Singing! by Emily Dickinson I shall keep singing! Birds will pass me On their way to Yellower Climes- Each-with a Robin's expectation- I-with my Redbreast- And my Rhymes- Late-when I take my place in summer- But-I shall bring a fuller tune- Vespers-are sweeter than Matins-Signor- Morning-only the seed of Noon- #emilydickinson #IShallKeepSinging #poetry #poems #readings #photography
Evening by Rainer Maria Rilke
zhlédnutí 185Před 14 dny
Evening by Rainer Maria Rilke The sky puts on the darkening blue coat held for it by a row of ancient trees; you watch: and the lands grow distant in your sight, one journeying to heaven, one that falls; and leave you, not at home in either one, not quite so still and dark as the darkened houses, not calling to eternity with the passion of what becomes a star each night, and rises; and leave yo...
An Arundel Tomb by Philip Larkin

An Arundel Tomb by Philip Larkin Side by side, their faces blurred, The earl and countess lie in stone, Their proper habits vaguely shown As jointed armour, stiffened pleat, And that faint hint of the absurd- The little dogs under their feet. Such plainness of the pre-baroque Hardly involves the eye, until It meets his left-hand gauntlet, still Clasped empty in the other; and One sees, with a s...
Her Kind by Anne Sexton

Her Kind by Anne Sexton I have gone out, a possessed witch, haunting the black air, braver at night; dreaming evil, I have done my hitch over the plain houses, light by light: lonely thing, twelve-fingered, out of mind. A woman like that is not a woman, quite. I have been her kind. I have found the warm caves in the woods, filled them with skillets, carvings, shelves, closets, silks, innumerabl...
Hope by Emily Brontë

Hope by Emily Brontë Hope was but a timid friend- She sat without my grated den Watching how my fate would tend Even as selfish-hearted men. She was cruel in her fear. Through the bars, one dreary day, I looked out to see her there And she turned her face away! Like a false guard false watch keeping Still in strife she whispered peace; She would sing while I was weeping, If I listened, she woul...
The Lake Isle of Innisfree by William Butler Yeats

The Lake Isle of Innisfree by William Butler Yeats I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree, And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made; Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee, And live alone in the bee-loud glade. And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow, Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings; There midnig...
'Poetry' by Pablo Neruda

Poetry by Pablo Neruda And it was at that age ... Poetry arrived in search of me. I don't know, I don't know where it came from, from winter or a river. I don't know how or when, no they were not voices, they were not words, nor silence, but from a street I was summoned, from the branches of night, abruptly from the others, among violent fires or returning alone, there I was without a face and ...
The Fury Of Sunsets by Anne Sexton

The Fury Of Sunsets by Anne Sexton Something cold is in the air, an aura of ice and phlegm. All day I've built a lifetime and now the sun sinks to undo it. The horizon bleeds and sucks its thumb. The little red thumb goes out of sight. And I wonder about this lifetime with myself, this dream I'm living. I could eat the sky like an apple but I'd rather ask the first star: why am I here? why do I...

it is at moments after i have dreamed by E.E. Cummings it is at moments after i have dreamed of the rare entertainment of your eyes, when(being fool to fancy)i have deemed with your peculiar mouth my heart made wise; at moments when the glassy darkness holds the genuine apparition of your smile (it was through tears always)and silence moulds such strangeness as was mine a little while; moments ...

I Am Much Too Alone in This World Yet Not Alone Enough by Rainer Maria Rilke I am much too alone in this world, yet not alone enough to truly consecrate the hour. I am much too small in this world, yet not small enough to be to you just object and thing, dark and smart. I want my free will and want it accompanying the path which leads to action; and want during times that beg questions, where s...

To A Butterfly 2 by William Wordsworth I'VE watched you now a full half-hour, Self-poised upon that yellow flower; And, little Butterfly! indeed I know not if you sleep or feed. How motionless! not frozen seas More motionless! and then What joy awaits you, when the breeze Hath found you out among the trees, And calls you forth again ! This plot of orchard-ground is ours; My trees they are, my S...

If I Should Die by Emily Dickinson (54) If I should die, And you should live, And time should gurgle on, And morn should beam, And noon should burn, As it has usual done; If birds should build as early, And bees as bustling go,- One might depart at option From enterprise below! ’T is sweet to know that stocks will stand When we with daisies lie, That commerce will continue, And trades as briskl...
I love the dark hours of my being by Rainer Maria Rilke

I love the dark hours of my being by Rainer Maria Rilke I love the dark hours of my being. My mind deepens into them. There I can find, as in old letters, the days of my life, already lived, and held like a legend, and understood. Then the knowing comes: I can open to another life that’s wide and timeless. So I am sometimes like a tree rustling over a grave and making real the dream of the one ...
