    Good lesson! These skills are the ones that link grappling arts. This is a common old Judo, Sambo, and wrestling technique. It gives you the understanding of connection, weight shifting, and the flexibility needed to reverse and counter. To me Judo has always been defense followed by a devastating offensive. Nothing hits harder than the ground.

    Since you like reading, I suggest you get this new one titled Myths and blind spots in the fighting arts’ world - After the Bible, it’s the next gοοd bοοk for you! My goodness, if a bοοκ can pack a knockout punch, it's this one! He penetrates his punch more and more as the chapters go on. In his words, the king is naked and you will find out why!

    That's pretty slick. I'm going to add that to practice tonight. I was going to do a similar movement that opens up a sasae or hiza guruma on the weak side by faking a turn throw with this movement. Excellent video as always. Clear, straight to the point, very practical. Keep them coming. You guys rock!

    Does that gut wrench have a name in judo? Also, is it easier to grab part of the gi instead of your own hands?

    • @welcomematstevescott
      @welcomematstevescott Před 28 dny

      The closest name is Daki Wakare. It's called a gut "wrench" for a good reason. The tight grip works well, but the best thing to do is to experiment at practice to see which you prefer.

    Hi Steve, I don't see an osoto gari per se because in turning you loose momentum and you are forced to rely on a sort of gake or if you put the foot on the ground you can migrate to an osoto otoshi.

  • @andreisolomon2813
    @andreisolomon2813 Před měsícem

    Hi Steve, just curious if it fits for BJJ. The stance in BJJ is almost the same when you pull that arm in the first place. What will be the pros and cons in using it for BJJ contests? My intimate belief is that a lot of throws in judo can be used in BJJ with minimal setup change and a guy with knowledge in both disciplines will be superior to BJJ only curricula.

    • @welcomematstevescott
      @welcomematstevescott Před 29 dny

      I can't comment on how this throw would work in BJJ competition, but it has been used with good effect in sambo and judo.

    This where the different grappling arts intersect. Judo, Sambo, Wrestling all work together because of the principles. Control the hips, you control the man. It's the same with striking arts, but it isn't the hips that need controlling.
