Hurricane Wilma (Oct 2005), from the Moon Palace, Cancun...
Hurricane Wilma, in its early stages (cat 1) about 12 hours before it hit (cat 5). We were lucky to be in this hotel, everyone was moved to a large conference centre in the grounds and we were in there for 5 days...

Hello Tim I'm helping make a TV programme about extreme weather events and one of the stories we are featuring is about Hurricane Wilma. We're interested in using some clips from your video to show what the hurricane was like. Can you let me know if that's OK? Could you send me an email? kate.szell@dsp.tv. Many thanks, Kate
Kate DSP TV Hi Kate, that is fine with me. I will drop you a line.
I just realized that guy in the middle with the brown hair is ME!!
This is not true. I was there, I saw it all and the winds were over 250mph at times.
I left on Sunday and I think that hurricane blew in on tues ! crazy I heard !
i went there just after that and one of the dining places were shut but its a great place to be
i think i went through there during the moon palace kitchen tour...no?
yes we did. We were very lucky, more so than a lot of people in the Hotel Zone, as the Moon Palace had a convention centre built to also withstand (to some extent) a storm. It leaked pretty badly but we were in excellent hands an a number of professionals in the hotel (Doctors, Electricians and Plumbers etc) helped everyone out.
if i posted my feelings on here mate the admin would remove it.
can't belive your not coming this time round, won't be the same without you!
that fuckin pow is fuckin unreal!
I have a few pictures of the trees all ripped to shreads as well as our building beginning to fall apart. My bad, you are right about it not being a Cat 5 when it hit land.
I visited Cozumel a few months after Wilma and it was amazing to see virtually every tree on island snapped or bent. Goes to show that hurricanes are not to be messed around with! It did not actually make landfall as a Cat. 5 in Mexico though..it hit Cozumel with 150mph winds (high-end Cat. 4) and then hit south of Cancun with 135mph winds (low-end Cat. 4). Either way, still an amazing storm.
