Hi Kurt, did you plank directly onto the bulwarks or the rib frames? the instructions for this kit on the upper deck are planked on the rib frame, which is why i was going to do the same on the lower decks, I am intending to build the interior, with decking, hatches, capstan etc, it may not all be visable but at least i will know its there, thanks for the tips on the lighting, ive got a 100 but was planning to use around 70, dependant upon the brightness, im hoping lanterns will help difuse the brightness.

Hi Josh, im hoping with a bit of paint they wont stand out against the brass versions, ive got two 3d printers I started off with a fillament one and then got a resin one last year, if you do start go for resin, the detail you can get on the models as you have seen is great.

Hi David, thanks, I built that kit, possibly an earlier iteration of it many many moons ago, was the first model kit I ever bought, does it still come with the plastic sails. Good suggestion about the cannons, though Im not sure it will be possible with the 3d printed versions, I will be adding the gun tackle which also secures into the wall so hopefully that will assist in holding into place.

Hi Mark, well it certainly looks like the hobby has taken ahold of you, Hull planking is definately the hardest part of a build to master, I have done a video on hull planking which you may find interesting, the best advice i can give is take it slowely dont rush. With regards the instructions I agree totally with you, though I know its too late as you have bought a Cdrom, Artesania Latina do have downloadable instructions on their website, view any of their kits and you will see an instructions download link. Ive found Artesania Latina do tend to have more detailed kits, but quality of parts is not quite as good, Occre have quality parts but not so detailed, Billing boats im not a fan though ive only bought one of their kits, instructions are next to useless, quality of parts is poor, it was supposed to be a wooden model kit 90% of the kit was plastic including the hull. The best kit I have had todate is Caldercraft, but they do tend to be a bit pricey.

@@g-kip I've watched yours and other videos on planking but nothing beats experience. The planking instructions in the Occre Polaris are great but probably not prototypical. As I said the instruction sheets are huge. If you fold them in half they are A4 size. It looked as if the ones in your comparison video were smaller. The only reason I got the Billings kit was the fact they did a Thames barge, which I love. I do actually have one more kit that I got in the late 1990s when I was doing model engineering and that is the Caldercraft Joffre tug kit. I have a Cheddar Models Pintail steam plant for it and I recently retrieved it from my ex wife's garage ( we are still on good terms) so keep looking at that. I thought I had lost the instructions for the steam plant and was sad to see that Cheddar Models are no longer in existence. Luckily they did come to light. Keep the videos coming that Victory kit is very impressive.

That's okay. The cannons you ended up using seem perfectly to scale so alls well that ends well! As an aside, I own this kit but have yet to start it. I have now found myself researching and planning the layout of the lower decks... it looks like you might have created a whole heap of work for me!

Haha, well at least you can learn from my mistakes, I would suggest John Mckays book the 100 gun ship Victory, if you don't have it, it has lots of plans etc, I'm also planning a trip to go see Victory soon so hoping to get lots of photos to aid in the customisations.

@@g-kip last time I was a Victory (circa 15 years) the chap told me they offered "model maker" tours where you are accompanied by a guide and given access to some areas not open to the public.. might be worth asking if such things still exist ;)

Hi, the deck will be the same height as the 3 other decks, two of which do get planked as per the instructions, so by planking the lower deck it should be ok I hope.

Hi, the reason I use an iron is it helps to keep the plank flat when bending, there is nothing stopping you using the plank bender, but you may need to take a little more care, with regards the rounded guide so far I haven't needed to use a different shape or size as typically the bend is minimal

Hi Tom, Thanks, I only had a handful of complaints so I think I will go back to background music, you've got a nice selection of builds (Ive subscribed, I like how you describe in detail each step. I learnt a few painting techniques too thanks.)

@@g-kip I have some videos with and others without music. My main problem is I cannot find a way to have the music repeat. Once the song ends the music stops. Very frustrating!

Hi Gordon, im planning to light the decks, nothing worse than the ports with the fake cannons, as lighting is impossible, and ship looks odd with 2 of 4 decks lit, also as the gunports are quite large due to the scale of the kit, im hoping the internal deck details will be visable, obviously on closer inspection. Thats the reason for the customisations.

Thanks much Now I get it. So many are getting into this lighting of their ships. I am more old school and think about how much a real ship would be lit by candles and oil lamps. Most of the people are over doing the lighting. I hope yours turns out the way you want.

I'd rather have the commentary actually. It's nice to know where the builder is going with the model. We can have music on the last video showing the finished model! :)

Hi Nikki, I thought I would try without the music to see if anyone would notice, yes I had a couple of people complain about the music, but the number was small in comparison to the number of views, in my personal opinion I like the background music, breaks the silence between the speech, maybe I need to talk more lol, maybe I should do two versions one with background music and one without.

@g-kip Yeah, I like the music as well.. As long as it doesn't blur out the commentary:) But again, you can't please everyone:) It's your channel, you do what feels right for you, and if people like it, great. If not, tolerate it or find something else to watch. That's at least my view on it..
