    • @TheFellowPassenger
      @TheFellowPassenger Před 19 dny

      Firstly, DEXED sounds fantastic, but would say yes, there is a bit of difference. Think it is due to the DACs, but also, if you send the dexed default patch, that weird little sequenced one to the TX7 it sounds different. Regardless i would get it if the price is good. As you will be able to sell it if you don't want to keep it.

That's what it sounds like is going on? I always thought using gate to jump between the modes was a bit useless given that each mode had a different pitch and getting anything cohesive out of that way of modulating was difficult.

    • @TheFellowPassenger
      @TheFellowPassenger Před měsícem

      Yes and no, yes as in you can use an LFO to cycle through the modes, and no, the transition will not be seemless, it will just jump between modes. I think an interesting application is that you can use a sequencer to do the mode change,

    Interesting experiment and thanks for sharing this. I'd be interested to take the final track and then use an AI stem splitter to extract rhythmic, lead, other instruments in order to create "ideas" that you could use as the basis for recreating the ideas in the DAW. So not using the AI generator as the end result, but as an idea generator. So you could take the rhythmic elements throw them through Ableton's Audio to MIDI and attach your own sounds.

    Very nice presentation! The reason for the 'backward' envelope controls is that (as far as I am aware) they do not control time, but instead the amount of change per time step. A small value gives a small change (long time), a high value results in a big change (short time). This probably goes all back to the DX7 being one of the first digital synthesizers where levels were just numbers to increment or decrement. A time-based control would be more user-friendly, but some legacies die hard.

    These machines have been built to suck the souls of artists into the architecture of their neural networks and create thousands of copy-variants using the artists creativity so that the tech-bro venture capitalists can sell them for pennies on the dollar. This is 100 percent stolen creativity and stolen souls. And it's not the machine's fault that they were built or are being used in this way. It is very much the greed of the venture capitalists driving all of this. Yes it all sounds like a dystopian anime, but it's now real. If you think that is cool or OK then that's on you. By the way I am a full time scientist who has also been a co-author on some machine learning papers. There are areas where AI can be used to do good things, such as in medicine and biomedical research, but the use of it in creative spaces should be massively regulated or better yet just be kept off limits and not done at all.

    It doesn't matter what people feel, as an artist you are responsible for your own destiny. Most artists would be dissatisfied using a lot of AI, because a big part of art, is being in control and making humanistic decisions in your work. I look at AI art as an example, a person who is well skilled in graphic design and art will put a lot of themselves into there work, but AI art just prompting images at free will, will leave a true artist a bit empty and therefore there works would not be a true reflection of themselves. I remember when i 1st got into music, i used a lot of drum samples, but i didn't feel satisfied until i spent a long time studying drum machines and drum design. I felt like the more in control of that aspect i was in, the more genuine the output. AI may lead to some interesting work, but it will also lead to a lot of unsatisfied music artists, who pump out work that isn't a true reflection of the artist. Art isnt about the art as a finished piece, it is the journey and struggle it took the artist to achieve the output. The finished piece of art, whether its a painting hanging on a wall, a sculpture, an electronic audio track, a film, a drawing, is the full stop, it isnt the paragraph that came before it.

    • @TheFellowPassenger
      @TheFellowPassenger Před měsícem

      I can so sympathise with your drum sound design statement. I think, even artists have different aspects they are passionate about. And yes, I think artists and listeners who are passionate will see through the "new noise floor" of mass generated stuff and still make interesting music and find interesting music to listen to. Even though how the music is found and made may develop with the technological progress.

    This the end goal of streaming services and they invest heavily into that. In 2-3 years time results will get very good. • @TheFellowPassenger
      @TheFellowPassenger Před měsícem

      Yes I think that is correct. I can see two parts of this, one being how we as artists can stay above the generated noise. The other will be for the listeners to find better ways to find quality music, no matter how it is made. Difficult to comprehend where this will end. I think there may be a bigger split between people who love music, either making or listening and people who do not care very much and just want something to listen to. Regardless of AI, I think a sense of this split already exists, but will be much more prominent. I wonder what impact this will have on "live music". I suspect things like Gorilaz, Abba Voyage and Hatsune Miku are just the infancy of non real human stage events.

      I would say you have to be a bit soulless yourself to uncritically welcome this new technology because of the easy things it can do for you. Some of the original architects of the technology are shocked at how fast it progressed, and are now very concerned about it, calling for regulation, and many of them are starting to realize that these systems are not just machines but a sort of form of new life. Is it ethical to use them like this? And these systems are very clearly built by absorbing the creativity of artists without their consent, and ultimately the venture capitalists are making the profits, not those whose literal human creativity has been mapped into the neural networks that output this sometimes quite shockingly human music, if you listen to Udio. If a person does not at least take some questions like these into account when considering this absolutely transformational new technology then I have to question the contents of their soul.

      Thank you. I understand that people find AI super offensive. It is very very likely that bad people will absue it. I feel fairly certain that AI wont go away, and I do not want to be a victim to it, or the least interested in doing mediocre stuff or material that could pass as another artists work. I am looking forward to when we will have more control over what the AI is generating. Then I would feel a bit more pride in the creations. As for Max For Live, I think it is a question of time before we will start seeing AI implemented in daws. A bit like Photoshop and Illustrator are doing at the moment.

Sure, there is arguably a lot less soulless art and music today compared to what is likely to come. But it certainly exists in quite large quantities already. And I think these fields will suffer hardest. And I am sure some good people will come to harm too, but I also think a lot of new exciting stuff will come out too. So the plan is, keep an eye on its development, get excited about the good things, learn from mistakes and make sure I do not become a victim to it. I do not feel certain that this should stay completely out of the creative field either. I think how we interact will AI is bound to develop too, as mere text prompting and keeping fingerest crossed is just not exciting enough in the longrun.

    I think AI will have it's place for some people. Content creators need quick soundtracks. sometimes you need a weird sample on the fly.... I work with AI in other fields, specifically using AI to read and organize large amounts of text. As far as music goes AI has no place. It is not work i want to automate. I enjoy the process too much. I enjoy working with other musicians.. Sitting around and finding new ideas. There is a connection there for me. As Gen X I spent years in warehouses with 30 - 40 other artists collaborating. Weekends were spent performing to hundreds of people just for fun. It was wild and i never felt more alive. Then the bedroom producer era came in the 2010's and all of this ended. people work alone now and perform prerecorded tracks. It's life, things change and not always for the better. I do not see anything wrong with AI. Doom scrolling until i hear something i like seems like a death sentence for me personally. There is something to process of sound design and discovery. Happy accidents happen with modern DAWs and Eurorack for me. I also have an open door studio where my friends just drop by on the weekends unannounced. accidents for days and days. I believe i would be robbing myself of something special with AI. My creative experiences throughout this life are priceless. I would not trade them for the $15 - $250,000 a bedroom producer could potentially make. I hope the Gen X era comes back and humans get high on the thrill of actually performing live.. on the fly... live dangerous. Rhythm is life. If we allow something else to make perfect for us we will never have the ability to do it ourselves. humans can be fine tuned machines. Rhythm and timing is everything in this world and it extends to many things.. love making, fighting, cooking... keep tapping out the beats. use it or loose it. <3

      Yes, I hear you. I would be surprised if I would stop using hardware, software and to perform live infront of an audience, and communicating with real people. I do think there will be a lot of room for people who are imaginative and love their craft. A bit like you get with any craft that has been forced to coexist with machines, such as furniture making or pottery. I am curious to see how AI will develop too, as just writing prompts as it is now does not give the "prompter" very much control and it is not very artistic. But I wonder if the path to the AI core will develop too. As just writing some prompts is something pretty much anyone can do, and we will have way more soulless music than exists today. On that note, I think the ones that will be hit hardest are the ones who make very generic music, not because they are passionate about the music. The stuff that could easily be replaced.

      haha, Totally, I think, the AI may have a brief time now when it is generating crap like 8 fingers on people and qualitycrushed audio. And this will be cherished by people who was there when it happened

    Dear all. I thought an AI video would cause some reaction, but did not anticipate quite as many strong feelings about it. In away, that in it self highlights the fact that it needs to be discussed. I would like to ask everyone to be respectful of eachothers opinions, ano matter if that is pro or agains AI, and I encourage constructive discussions. The music I generated will not go down in history and has little merit. I am amazed how good it sounds, yet it is not at a level yet where it can compare to great music that is created by humans. But AI will not go away, and probably develop rapidly. So will our understanding of how it is used in creative ways. The world of music was already flooded with mediocre material even before AI, but it will be completely saturated in no time as soon as it becomes "good enough". Therefore, we as musicians will have to find ways of rising above that "noise", whether that is with or without the aid of AI. I am super curious to see how this will develop.

    Love this level-headed exploration. Always interesting to see the strong reactions people have to this type of content. Reminds me of when drum machines became more common as well, also CDJs, then Final Scratch released and DJs shat their pants to the point of losing friends and having very public fights. I kept gigging with vinyl long after serato et al were finally accepted, and in retrospect, I feel rather silly for holding out. My vinyl is purely archival and for home sets now. No way I’d lug kilos of vinyl to a gig, not after the scoliosis decades of doing so have inflicted on me 😂

    I have no problem with AI being used as a tool to enhance production workflows but I'm definitely against it being used to flood an already flooded market with completely AI generated content that really has no intent other than making the uploader money ( which won't be possible if the market is flooded any more than it already is because it'll become meaningless and worthless )

      Yes I think you are right. I considered the music market completely flooded, even before AI, and AI will magnify that massively. It will be interesting to see how musicians rais above the noise, with or without AI, because I feel certain this will happen. It will arguably be harder to search through the noise, but I am sure the way we will find good music will change too.

    "I mad an album using AI" gives off the same energy as "I wrote a book" when a ghost writer actually did it. That said, what you did here was more like sampling in my opinion.

      I totally agree with that statement regarding the nergy, I do not think I did not have much artistic merit, but I am very very intrigued by it. And I feel an urge to explore it, as I think both AI will move on rapidly and so will our understanding of using it. I am not sure I understand the point regarding sampling. Not to worry, will keep exploring.
