Pick up and knit stitches
zhlédnutí 123Před 21 dnem
This is how I pick up and knit stitches. I pick up every 'hole' four times and then miss the fifth one. This creates the perfect pick up for your row tension. In reality we all want our row tension to match the pattern but in reality that doesn't happen. So by doing the pick up four then miss one you get the edging that's right fr your row tension. It also means the pick up is even, no need to ...

This is the three needle cast off which is the technique I use for joining shoulders together as well as grafting the toe stitches together on a sock. Please notice my impressive* editing skills on this video. *by impressive I mean very basic, too busy knitting to look into getting my CZcams editing skills better!

Professional Finishing Series - Sizing
zhlédnutí 74Před měsícem
The first stage and first piece of advice is measurements. Knowing your actual measurements is the first step in getting the right size garment. It’s as simple as knowing your actual bust/chest measurements and the actual measurements of the garments you wear. This isn’t saying I’m a size 16 for example because that really doesn’t work anymore, you can be a size 12, 14 or 16 in three different ...

How do you blanket stitch two different colours together
I replied to your other message but here it is again in case you missed it! Sorry, I've just seen this! I use one shade, so for example if it's cream and grey I will use either the cream or grey. It works well and you don't notice it.
How do you manage the yarn colour when sewing two different colours together?
Sorry, I've just seen this! I use one shade, so for example if it's cream and grey I will use either the cream or grey. It works well and you don't notice it.
Hi Jane, I saw your 'Eider' fingerless gloves pattern on Ravelry but can't actually find the pattern to buy anywhere. It says it comes from the Mirasol Collection Accessories book. I can't find that either, probably because I think you published it in 2009. Do you still have this patter available, and if you do, where can I get it please?
Hello, Yes this pattern was published in the Mirasol Collections Accessories book many years ago now, before digital patterns! So there isn't one available at the moment. I've lots of digital patterns an you can find them here www.purlandjane.co.uk/product-category/patterns/ as well as where you did look on Ravelry. However they show all patterns, even ones from long discontinued printed books. I am always designing and so will put it on my list, but it's a very long list so I'll get to it as soon as I can :-)
I wish I'd seen all your dpn videos before I made my first attempt yesterday, it did not go well. Now I have watched yours I feel a bit more confident about trying again.
Thank you for your lovely comment, I hope you conquered those dpns!
I wish I was in Yorkshire! This is very helpful and again, so clearly rxplained.
Another excellent tutorial.
This explained the process very clearly, easy to understand.
Thank you for all your lovely comments, enjoy!
Hope you’re feeling better! Fab videos! Happy knitting 🧶
The camera needs to be facing over your shoulder from the back so we can see the work!
Beautiful ❤
😀🧶
So lovely to see your podcast this morning, really cheered me up (proper old fashioned flu!!!). Absolutely love your new designs and your colour choices. Happy Christmas 🎄
Yay! I'm happy to read it's cheered you up, that's what I hope they do. I also hope you feel better soon! Happy Christmas!
I love these! I look forward to seeing them every week😃Love seeing your new designs & want to knit them all 😃♥️🧶🧶
Hello please do you have a link to your rib stitch free cowl pattern ? It is not showing as a link on your website. Many thanks x
Hello! Sorry about that the link is up now www.purlandjane.co.uk/shop/patterns/accessories/rice-rib-cowl-or-scarf-pattern/
Absolutely beautiful! Is there a lot of purling involved in that rib ?
I am guessing you are referring to the Kyle Jumper that I am wearing? This doesn't have a lot of purl, in fact it is more knit than purl. And because of that it is a fun knit! www.purlandjane.co.uk/shop/patterns/adults/kyle-jumper/
Absolutely love your new designs! Well, all of them to be honest!!! Your waistcoat in the round colour choice really shows the flecks of colour beautifully. Happy knitting 🧶
Thank you for your lovely comment! Happy Knitting!
Hello. I really appreciate you posting all your ‘how to’ videos as they’re brilliant! Do you mind me asking, which length would you recommend for your dpns when knitting socks?🧶🧦
Thank you! I recommend 15cm length dpns
So thrilling you’re doing a socktober! I was so disappointed I couldn’t make your workshop, I feel as though I’m able to join in, until I’m able to get to Skipton. Huge thank you!! Happy knitting!🧶
Thank you! And there will be more sock workshops so always check purlandjane.co.uk/learn for more dates. Hopefully there will be one you can get to. Otherwise, yes there are the videos to help you!
Thank you for demonstrating how to use DPNS..It looks easier than I thought. I now feel more confident in having a go with them, after 40 years of knitting! 😃🍁🍂🧶🧶
Thank you for your advice on pulling knitting out and making mistakes yesterday. I scrutinise my knitting and feel so disheartened when I make mistakes (generally when my husband is chatting about engines!!!!). You gave me hope that I’m not the only one!!!! Fab videos, thank you!
Thank you for your lovely comment and I am so happy to read that this video has helped. I hope this has helped love your knitting because yes we all make mistakes(especially when we are distracted!) and it's all good.
Loving your videos Jane, thank you!
Thank you for your lovely comment 🥰
Great news about your Vlogtober! Looking forward to joining you! 🧦
Thank you for these videos!!!! I’ve been trying desperately to book one of your workshops over the last few years, but never been able to!!😢 Fingers crossed for one day!!!! Absolutely love your Podcasts!
Thank you for your lovely words!
Love the Harper cardi Jane, what yarn is it knit in please?
I've just come across the video and I'm very impressed with how you explain to knit with dpns. I would love to try and knit socks but think they look very awkward. After seeing your explanation I am definitely going to try! Thank you so much. I'm not too far from Skipton, living near Wetherby.
Short, sweet and to the point. Thank you!
😀💕Thank you!! Great tutorial!!
Thank you
Great tips, excellent tutorial, thank you.

This was so helpful. Thank you so much. I’m knitting my first sweater and I’m so happy to have come across your channel 🥰
Thank you! Congrats on knitting your first sweater! Exciting!
Thank you Jane, I’ve been knitting almost 65 years. It’s always been my passion. Where I go, my knitting goes. These tips you gave today I learned a few years ago and they are so helpful to all knitters. Keep on giving your tips, and I’ll be watching, looking for more. ❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦
Thank you! It's my passion too and I love hearing form others who love knitting just as much as me!
Wow thanks for the information! Great!
You are a great teacher!
Thank you! I am pleased it helped!
You forgot to say put right sides together ?
Are you referring to the Three Needle Graft/Cast off? Just watched it backed and yes, I did forgot to say with the right sides together. Sorry about that! You put the right sides together and then do the technique. I hope that helps!
Thank you that was very helpful I advice on what yarn to use for people with sensitive skin my husband prefers cotton
You are very welcome. I'm so happy it read it was helpful! Merino is a great fibre for people with sensitive skin, it has great to knit (or crochet) with and is used for sports wear as it is great for the skin. Wool is great for the skin because it is warm and cool too. Some wool can be "felt" on the skin so I wear those sorts of wools like a coat and have other things next to my skin underneath it. But merino is so soft it is OK next to the skin. But it is all personal preference. There are so many different fleeces that can make up yarn so it's good to get to know them and find out which is the softest for you and your family. I hope that helps!
Hi Jane thank you so much for this lesson ,your the best yet, made everything so simple to understand Jen ❤️
Thank you for your lovely comment, I'm so happy I could help!
Hi! Thanks for the video. So, I'm knitting a sweater, and I have to go up from size 10 needle to a size 11(It asked to do the tension square with the 10 needles). The pattern also calls for size 8 needles, but didn't give the tension for these. Does that mean I should also go up a size to 9?
Sorry for the late reply, I've just seen for comment! In the UK a size 10 is 3.25mm and a size 11 is 3mm. So I am guessing you are American?? As size 10 is 6mm and to go up to size 11 is 7mm. But yes, if these are American sizing then you do change the size for the 8s, and go up to size 9 or size 10. I hope that helps!
Can you do a slower video on this cast on method?
Thank you for your advice x
Would you use the same format for decreasing on purl row?
+Jane Lish Hello Jane, Yes, the principle is the same, in that I would decrease one stitch from the end. However the techniques I would use would be p2tog and p2togtbl. Hope that helps!
