If you climbing at 9th gear, you must descend at 8th gear, 8th up - 7th down and so on. US-95 in ID and OR is a great scienic road but not for beginners cause it's undivided highway almost everywhere. Steepest descend to Lewinstown has a 4 (four!) runaway ramps on 6-miles

Mate I drove road trains for years with out Jake brakes. Use a lower gear and your trailer brakes. You yanks really are a bunch of dumb fucks at times.

Don’t look at the corner of your trailer tires. Get out and look if you have trailer axles far forwards the swing will rip a fender off and you won’t feel it. Also when pulling out don’t come out to sharp or you can bring the truck next to with you. Don’t be scared of GET OUT AND LOOK.

If you have to use your brakes repeatedly, shouldn't you instead switch to a lower gear? Even intermittent application of the brakes can overheat the brakes, right?

I was 18 when I first learned how to back up a big rig. It took me 1 hour (in the middle of that summer) to get it right and all of the other trailers were taken out of the yard. I was a sweaty mess when I stepped out of the cabin. But I did get a standing ovation from the guys that I worked with.
