What a great and inspiring story. I just bought my first, entry level, gravel bike. A bit nervous about some of those routes , but mostly, much older than you and have my doubts. Ive don’t a few marathons but that looked tougher. Awesome

I can’t believe I called my frame bag a saddle bag 😂 Nittany Mountain Works is in Phillipsburg, Pennsylvania. I also ran the WTB tires because they were what I had in the garage after my Gravel Kings wore out 😁🤷♂️

Thanks! I was running the Rene Herse 42mm Hurricane Ridge tires. And yes, ran them with tubes and learned my lesson. Since we shot the video, my whole set up has been greatly improved and will soon go tubeless.
Great effort. The minute you choose to ride a route from Karlos you need to expect the unexpected, know that it will be harder than you anticipated, and remember that it will be fun when it's over.

for the hurricane go hard tail and put the widest tubeless tires you can fit, you wont regret it

Awesome videos, your hard tail bike is perfect for Florida gravel, Florida is not your regular gravel..... Stick with the hard tail for different terrains, unless your only doing gravel and grass, you stick to your hard tail bike....

Awesome video brother you did great, remember Florida has a lot of sand and gets you real tired, you might think its easy to get 240 miles in 24 hrs very difficult in Florida no need to exert yourself too much, just work out have fun and dont overwork yourself, you did awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to drop at mile 250! Never slept tho and had some mechanical issues that I couldn’t fix. Absolutely gutted about it but learned a ton. Had a massively improved bike set up. New carbon wheels, new drive train… it was awesome. Still ran tubes with the 44mm WTB byways but will go tubeless before unbound xl. The weather… it was almost freezing at Saturday morning and started to rain on me Sunday morning at like 4 am. Actually as I had the mechanical issues, the gods decided to continue the rain about 8am on Sunday. Otherwise it was perfect all day Saturday. Felt strong almost the entire time and would’ve probably finished around my goal of about 30ish hours. Probably…
@@Flacycling Sorry to hear about this year's ride. I was out there for the 200 last year - MudFest '23! Per the reports and when my friends have run the XL...wider is better. I would go wider then 44's and definitely tubeless! I ran 48s and loved them. Good luck in prep and out there when you make your attempt!

My guy, really love the video, super cool. I got to tell you though, you have to get set up tubeless, for these kinds of journeys its the only way. In the long run it'll make it so much more enjoyable for you
Yes, thank you for the note! Lessons were learned on this one. I'm staying with tubes for the Hurican 300 I'm about to do, hopeful it doesn't bite me in the butt...we shall see. But, I fully plan on making the shift for Unbound Gravel in a few months.

Great work dude! Takes mucho guts to journey alone over 500 miles!!!! In FL wilderness. I never have!! Swamps, single tracks, head wind, night time riding could easily get in the wrong lane and have to back track and also thot of quiting… keep up what ur doin surely ur a warrior while staying composed and chill on camera totally a champion for completing that route holy moly man God bless from Dunedin FL man Daniel
