    I am a recreational tennis player and latelty I have been training everyday and I loved the process. The only peoblem was I was too tense on court and therefore tiring myself needlesly and could not relax.. Last week I broke my ankle on court and suddenly all my training plans came to a halt. I had ankle sırgery and I will not be able to play for another 8 weeks, at least.. I still can't believe this. On the bright side, this sudden change helped me see things differently and loosen in my approach mentally. I totally see my injury on the positive side now. I was tensing more and more everyday and pushing harder, which did not help. But when everything stopped out of my control, I finally let go of the tense approach. Sometimes the solution is a broken ankle :)

    I heard you talk about doing psychobiology. Does that field go into things like why the body may be more tense during stress, or more focused when relaxed? If that makes sense? I played basketball in highschool and I noticed the more comfortable I was the better I played. the more anxious I became or let’s say forceful; I would play worse. Being comfortable the game seemed to flow more and I just reacted. When I was forceful or uncomfortable the game seemed impossible. In your opinion if I wanted to go into the research or something like this should I go the path I’m on right now and major in psychology or psychobiology? I would appreciate your feed back, thanks!

It does have a health psychology track, however. Would you recommend I take this track? Would practicums in health psychology qualify me for sports psych internships? Finally, whether I land an internship in sports psych or not, would you recommend I get a masters in sports psych after I get my PsyD? Thanks in advance!

    • @jarrodspencer194
      @jarrodspencer194 Před 2 lety

      For sure....go the health psychology track as it will help you in your future career as a sports psychologist. You will be a strong candidate for sports psych internships or just get one in health psych and then go into sports psychology afterwards. I do not believe a masters after that will be necessary; just do a lot of continuing education in sports psych. Good luck!

    I’ll see you this I put a lot of different sports I wasn’t a big football guy but I played a tremendous amount of hockey high school college and play juniors up north and I think hockey players have a dismissive attitude about taking injury seriously to the point that in some cases it’s beneficial but in other cases it may lead to re-injuring that same body part or never making a full come back but I think if you interviewed a hockey player about a serious injury they never really dwelled upon it the first thought was when can I go back and play even moments after they’ve been injured you wonder how long will it take to heal

  • @ronemtae3468
    @ronemtae3468 Před 2 lety

    I never really had the opportunity to think too much about my injury it was never really overly discussed some of my injuries were significant but it was never a conversation about being Richard was always a conversation about getting back in playing so the focus was always about getting back to playing because you don’t wanna get caught you don’t want to be left off the team if you’re going into some kind of playoffs you don’t wanna be the guy who doesn’t get a chance to get his name on the trophy or to get a trophy

    Tore my lateral meniscus (cartilage) in my right knee on the second day of the new year 2022 in a motocross race. Haven’t had surgery because I can still walk and work and ride I just have to be cautious. And it pops often. But so does my good knee. @@donalddonaldson7211 Thank you very much! I tore it about 3months ago. I was playing football and fell and i heared a very loud crack in my knee. I really didn't think much of it at first but then i saw my knee getting bigger and was pretty red. The worst thing was that i continued playing with that pain. Doctor told me that my knee is pretty bad and that i definetly should have a surgery. I had the surgery about 5 weeks ago. Right now i cant use that leg for walking and can start walking after 6weeks, so 1 more week to wait. The depressing part is that i can play football again in october. But mentally i am growing stronger and i will be stronger in the future. It is sad but otherwise i would be in my 30s and cant use my leg. Thank you for asking and best of luck!

    Thank you, Dr. Spencer for this video. I am currently finishing my MS in mental health counseling and am working within a hospital setting for my internship. During my journey through graduate school I have found out that I have a holistic perspective to counseling. I believe fully in the mind and body working as one. This is why I have also found so much interest in health/ performance psych. I started to notice this interest come out in some of my papers, which were honestly the most fun that i've had writing. The area that I started focusing on is endurance athletes, specifically I wrote about the female athlete triad. As I enter into my last semester I am starting to think about the next steps I would like to take and I believe that working with an athlete population is part of this path. Again I want to thank you for taking the time to make this video, it has given me a lot to think about.
