Wtf do you mean?
Cool. It's kind of a similar concept to what he does on "Going Down Slow"
Yes for sure! Thanks for watching :)
Great lesson ❤…Love Clapton and especially the bootleg sessions…picked up a really good groove from this one…please share more of this in the near future…Love the Blues etc🤙🎸🎶
Yeah these recordings are gold. Laidback and listenable. Glad you enjoyed the lesson - I'll try and do more of this stuff in the future. Thanks!
Thanks for the lesson Nathan, great ideas to map out the fretboard. Btw the poster wall looks great. How long did it take to collect all the pieces then fix them to the wall?
Thanks - glad you found it useful! Yeah the wall was a quick fix for a daggy ply wall. I googled ‘vintage concert posters’ and hit the colour printers then a couple of days with the PVA glue and paintbrush. Came up good!
Hello
nice tele tone...
Thanks the Brent Mason Tele is really great
Nice rendition of a great tune, well played and quite different from most of Cales'. Any chance of displaying the tabs? btw Original Cale version is in F# while most of his other versions are in E.
Hey thanks for the info! Yeah I'm just presenting songs how I play them in my bands mostly so may deviate from the originals. No tabs sorry - we just use our ear around here :)
Thank you! I subscribed to your channel immediately.
Thanks so much!
Very well done.
Thank you kindly!
JJ has so many great tunes - Woman that got away another great one ! Thanks for this
Cool thanks I’ll check that one out!
Very helpful! Thank You! Please do some more videos. This is a quick easy learn from basic to much better fast, which i and i’m sure many others really appreciate!!!
Thanks for the feedback - hope it helps!
Thanks for your excellent instruction and for putting me onto Jack Pearson, how did I miss him?!
Jack is the man!
CZcams settings: 1080p, 720p, 360p ... but this was recorded at what, 4p?
Haha just a humble iPhone bud
Thank You...❤❤
Nice! J.J. Cale had his own way of playing, that's for sure. I'm not good at Chet Atkins style, but it's nice to see the chords and runs.
Yes for sure - J.J. is the man! I suggest that focusing on the rhythm and groove with your runs is worthwhile practice. Thanks :)
Great stuff. Too many CZcams guitar instructors think a lesson can be aimed at everyone from absolute beginners to intermediate. They can’t. Your lesson is a nice early intermediate lesson.
Hey thanks so much - it's a pretty casual lesson format here on my channel. Hope you got something out of it.
I’m waiting for the tutorial up To now only narcissistic tones far to much over enffasis on your ability stop Fannying and teach your not as good as you think you seem to have any natural ability do people when they come to see you or co they walk out your not playing for the people but yourself disappointed
Hahaha thanks
The Ego Comp & RC Booster are always on pedals for me too. They just add to the base tone. Great pedalboard btw!
Yes absolutely - a great way to kickstart the signal chain. The RC just keeps that top end sparkle and the mix option on the Ego Comp is my fave. Thanks for the kind words!
Nathan, you are one Smoove player! Rock on!!!!.
Thank you kindly!
Hello, new subscriber here. Do you use a looper pedal or considered using one for your tutorials?
Yep, will be adding one to the tutorials very soon. Definitely a good idea to hear melodic ideas against the chords. Thanks 😀
Thank You...❤
You're welcome 😊
Excellent tutorial Nathan. Thank you.
Thanks so much, hope you found it helpful :)
Thank You Nathan. .❤❤
Thank You...❤❤
Thanks
Fantastic playing and a great tone 👏👏👏👍🎶🎵
Hey thanks so much
Thanks Nathan very nice, I really like that you are telling us what you are thinking about while improvising... Gold!
Thanks for your appreciation :)
Hi Nathan I really enjoyed your lesson. I’m a big fan of BB king , Eric Clapton etc. around the 5 minute point you play some fantastic solos which I want to play just like that!. Would you mind explaining exactly what scale you are playing there? Sorry if I missed this when you were talking through the song. I have been playing guitar on and off since the age of 12 , having just turned 50 I should be your standard but lack talent! Thanks for taking the time to upload your videos and share your knowledge. I’m from the Uk and did visit Brisbane back in 1997, I’m sure it has changed a lot since then!
Sorry just found the part we’re you talk about the mixolydian scale !
Hello! Yes the mixolydian (dominant 7/flat 7) scale is what I'm playing over a major blues like this one. Also thinking about the major pentatonic scale as the foundation here is important - in this case F major (using D minor pentatonic shapes, the relative minor). With B.B. type playing it's always about squeezing the maximum melodic content out of a handful of notes. Look for vids on the 'B.B. blues box' or similar - a fragment of the larger scale pattern that you can practice phrasing. I always replace the word 'talent' with 'obsession' with students - it's something the greats have dedicated huge amounts of time to rather than something they were inherently gifted. Good luck!
great guitar and tone!
Thanks so much - yep love this guitar. My fave!
Hey mate, thanks for sharing , I am just trying to understand what you are doing with the E & B minor scales. So A minor is the 6 (relative minor) of C & E minor is the 3rd of C.... so that kind of makes sense... B is the 7 of C where does or the Relative minor of D.... still not quite getting it...
Hey mate, you’re on the right track but let me try and simplify it for you even more. This version is in A Minor Dorian which the second mode in the key of G major (same notes - effectively A minor with F# instead of F natural). A minor, B minor and E minor are all built into the key of G so those all work nicely here (you can use the minor 7 arpeggios and the Em,Bm pentatonics scales!). Forget the theory for a minute and try playing Em7 arpeggios and E minor pentatonic scales over A minor to explore the Dorian sound. Hope that helps!
@@nathanleonardmusic Yes that helps heaps, I think I get it now, so it's A minor the 2 chord of G, B the 3 chord and E the relative or 6 chord...
@@ddugan64 Yes sir - when we build triads in the G major scale it gives us G Am7 Bm7 C D7 Em7 F#dim etc. so all these arpeggios work over G (or A minor Dorian in this case). I superimpose these triads all the time to unlock colour tones eg. Em7 arpeggio automatically hits the 9th and 11th of Am7 - the B and D. Basically, it’s a quick and easy way to sound a bit more jazzy and sophisticated. Good luck with it!
Killer 😮
Thank you kindly!
How Cool !!!, great licks , and options 🎉
Thanks so much - appreciate it!
That’s gold! Thank you man, and thumbs up for this tone
My pleasure thanks for the kind words
JJ Cale knew where it lived.
Absolutely! Amazing songwriter and so much mojo
Very cool feel and sound!
Thank you kindly :)
I still have the Bonnie and Delaney album.
Ah yes that's the album name - I'll check it out on the way to my gig tonight. Thanks for reminding me!
Cool song but if I were to add some suggestions for your video structure it would be do a clean play through of the track at the top so we know what we are supposed to be playing. 2nd, just drill down a bit more into the scales, the patterns and extensions, unpick the phrases etc and this would make it a bit more accessible to beginner-intermediates….but I like a challenge so have subbed! 🎉
Hello! Thanks heaps for the feedback - that seems to be a standard template for guitar lessons on YT. I guess I'm assuming some prior knowledge from people but will try to be more explicit with the details. There's so many great channels and resources online now for people to level up their playing. My modest little videos are just a casual chat with a few useful ideas that hopefully help people with their practice and performance. Appreciate your thoughts and I will keep it in mind for future videos. Thanks!
If he played the song all the way through, YT would have busted him for a copyright violation imho.
Liked and subbed. Thanks
Hey thanks for the support :)
Good Talk ! and Thank You!
Hey thanks so much :)
many thanks.
Thank you!
Don't worry about the naysayers Nathan, shit happens when you party naked, I thought it was tremelo anyway! Keep 'em coming and thanks.
Haha thank you - I appreciate the support and understanding :)
A great tune, thanks.
My pleasure - I hope you found it helpful!
Great lesson, not too much and not to little,thanks..
Thanks so much, hope you found it useful!
Loved this song for years but never got anywhere with the chords. Thank you so much Nathan 🙏
Oh awesome! I'm 99% sure these chords are correct but will double-check when I see Jon Cleary and The Monster Gentlemen in a couple of weeks for their Australian tour!
@@nathanleonardmusic Awesome, enjoy that! Is Derwin Perkins still with him?
Great idea for a series, can’t fault your choices so far. Thanks for breaking this down and sharing your ideas 🙏
Thanks for the kind words - hope you find it helpful!
Thanks man. Cool tutorial with great tips. You've got my sub.
Hey thanks so much - hope you found it helpful :)
Can you imagine how good it would sound if the guitar was in tune!!!!!!
Haha I know - new string-itis on this one, unfortunately! Don't let it get to you though :)
@@nathanleonardmusic That's a terrible suggestion and mostly bullshit. It should absolutely bother the hell out of everyone, especially someone who fancies themselves a teacher.
As soon as I heard it, I stopped watching. Can't teach me shit if you haven't figured out tuning and proper intonation.
@@christopherh4653 Naw that's a shame - all the best mate
@@christopherh4653 Fair enough mate - thanks for the feedback. I had 20 minutes between finishing work and picking up my kids so I strung up the Telecaster and did a quick video - a FREE guitar lesson - for anyone who might be interested. I don't do this for money or direct people to Patreon etc. I only do it to help others with their music-making. Plenty of other channels for you to explore. Cheers
great job
Thanks mate! Hope it was helpful :)
You playing over a minor progression or major?
I try to keep this one in G minor overall - enjoy!
