George Gervin should be the MVP in the 1978-79 season. His best season and they only wanted to give it to centers but he was definitely MVP that year. The next year Julius Erving was clearly MVP same problem, so Erving got it the following year breaking the long time streak of only giving it to centers.

Unlike the merger of the NFL, NBA did not allow stats and records from ABA players to transfer during the merger. The ABA pioneered the 3pointer and playing style and stat keeping that made the NBA what it is today. It was definitely self serving for the NBA to diminish to influence the ABA had on professional basketball.
