Enjoyable game with many individually small but odd design choices that rubbed me the wrong way. Worst, having to restart from entire worlds, not save points or even levels, if you turn the game off. Bizarre. You basically have to leave it running on switch at least and can't play other games. being able to choose a new character on an old save. Strange option, kinda messes with the narrative. Arcade feel with "credits" but no level timer. Don't get me wrong, I Hate timers, but why go arcade mode but then leave a key feature out. Death countdown to continue is quick. I've failed to hit continue because it's so quick. Different buttons to exit different screens; and instead of "hit A to.." it shows a four button diagram, which is ambiguous on switch as it could refer to multiple control elements. Enemy movement blocked by chests. Failing to hit continue doesn't destroy game progress, just your upgrades progress. Brother that's not what continue means in games. A few hard to parse challenges (tried to jump on waterwheel fins, died, answer was jump on wheel. Easy but needlessly ambiguous). Signs telling you how to do basic things like jump over pits or press up to climb rope? Put that in a basic controls screen from title and leave level clear of non diegetics. Powerups and orichalchum not disappearing. Ok, cool, technically better for me but less arcade oriented, again, go for one thing or the other in terms of game identity. A weird side effect of this is that it's smart to leave powerups behind and then return later, walking through a minute or two of empty level. That's a flat spot in gameplay interest. Permanent upgrades, but no grinding, and limited currency, so basically you choose the order of upgrades, not amount of them or when you get one. They're all different prices but all roughly similar prices. it makes the most sense to get the discount and Ori drop upgrades first every time. Once, I beat kipak, but didn't hit a button on the cutscene in time and I had to fight him again. Bizarre. So all told only like one of these is all that serious; but add them all together and it's baffling how the designers made a game that controls well, looks nice, feels good, and has four characters with subtle but important differences... A good game, bordering on great, but then bungled so many small details that weren't even part of play.

As auto battlers go this looks pretty good. The gameplay looks very exciting.

This looks like an amazing game, it was fun watching.

"Dig or Die was originally released as a PC title back in 2015. Oddly this pre-dates the release of "No Man's Sky" with which there are some slight similarities. This game, at it's core, is a survival & crafting experience set to crafting goals. The ultimate goal being getting off the planet. The only way to do this is dig and hunt for the materials needed to craft the rocket. Where the game fails is in it's lack of bio-diversity. The creatures do not come in a huge variety as with games like 'Terraria'. Also the traversal is problematic in that things are crafted at a placed base of operations. Meaning you have to return to that spot to make use of the crafting mechanic. With digging being top priority this complicates progress as the rarer materials are deeper down into the planet's surface. Feature-wise you can tell this is a dated experience that has only been ported over years later. The fact that it offers less than it's main competition is not good.
