    Soooo, back in early July, I found a seed in the piece of honeydew I happened to be eating, and for fun, I decided to try and sprout it, using the paper towel and ziplock method I learned in elementary school. I wasn't really expecting it to sprout or survive, I just thought it would be fun. Well, he sprouted, and is now currently in medium sized plastic pot, and is nearly half a foot tall, has several big, beautiful leaves, some of which have begun to curl, a possible blossom, and has started to lie horizontally. However, it's now fall, and I know melons are summer plants, so I'm worried the upcoming colder weather is gonna kill him. Any advice or tips?? 😅

      @BestBudsGardening Před 2 dny

      Well, it won't make it outside. July is way too late to start a honeydew plant from seed. Have you thought about bringing it indoors and using a grow light?

    • @wonderlandious
      @wonderlandious Před 2 dny

      @BestBudsGardening oh he's already indoors! I've been growing him in the greenhouse window above my kitchen sink! However a growlight will probably be a good idea come the cold weather. (Right now, where I'm at, the weather is still nice and hot despite being September, but I'm not sure how long it will last 🥲.)

    Hi, Buddy, I just subscribed. 8/28/24 and doing the coffee can method today.. I hope it's not too late in zone 9b. Thank you very, very much.

      The back of your seed package might tell you when to plant in 9b. Some packets have that information and some don't.

    I bought one at the Farmer's market and opened it up and it was not ripe. I collected the seeds but need to know if they will still germinate. They aren't black like yours but instead a sort of tan/gray color.

    So thank you for this video. I have just plucked the seeds from a store bought cantaloupe. There are many differences in the Google searches I've conducted which is how I found you! My question i love in a ski resort area so we have more winter than summer. Following the one rule all have said which is to plant 3 to 4 weeks before the last area frost. Because our last frost is mid July I won't have the time to grow. I am going to try to grow cantaloupe from my home using the summer sun in summer months and warm locations away from cooling areas. I'll be using both sunlight and grow light. My question is if I opt to do my plan, can I plant it now? August 10th 2024 with outdoor temps getting a high of about 97 to 100 f and a low of 60's? Or is it imperative that I wait until next year and hope for early spring? Also as for the seeds some people say I have to clean, rinse, thoroughly dry, and even freez if they're from store bought cantaloupe. Also I also was told if the seeds float they're bad while those that sink are goo to plant. All of them are floating. Is this true too?

      Great idea thank you 😊

    • @BestBudsGardening
      @BestBudsGardening Před 10 dny

      100 degrees is a little too hot for the blossoms to turn into fruit. If you set up a little growing area inside, with a grow light... plant away! You need to clean and rinse, but only have to thoroughly dry if planning to store the seeds. If they float... they're not good. Only the ones that sink are good. The ones that float are empty inside.

    Is zone 6 much different than zone 5 for growing luffa, or does the rule of thumb pretty much still apply when trying to germinate and grow luffa for my zone, or should I tweak it somehow to get a better jump on germinating and attempting to grow it in my location in Iowa?

    • @BestBudsGardening
      @BestBudsGardening Před 10 dny

      It's not THAT much different between the zones. You won't really be able to get a "head start." If it's too cool, they'll stop growing. You can try the soda bottle trick on cooler nights. Just give it a try and see what happens. Let me know how it works out.

  • @Me-mt4dp

    Ive heard that the pumpkin can also choose to not let some blossoms grow if it has too many pollinated flowers on it. It probably sends out a bunch of females and expects a fraction of them to get pollinated. Also i think a damaged stigma can do the same thing because I broke a part of the stigma one time while pollinating it and the flower fell off. (This is all speculation)
