About this project:
"Illustrating the History of Mercedes Benz Through Decoupage" Dave Tobin's W126 Art Car project intends to illustrate the history of Mercedes-Benz through decoupaging all types of Mercedes-Benz related ephemera over every painted surface of this 1990 Mercedes 300 SE sedan.
Materials to be used on the car include original Mercedes-Benz dealer brochures, period print ads from magazines and newspapers, original articles and photos, art plates and other ephemera. He will use only original and authentic pieces from his large collection, NO photocopies. By the time the project is complete, Tobin hopes the car will act as a learning tool where everyone from the casual car enthusiast to the long time Mercedes owner can learn something new about Mercedes-Benz and the cars and other vehicles they've produced for over the past 130 years.

Test driving this great looking 1966 Mercedes W111 250SE Coupe! I call this a '050 white' car in the video... it is actually an Ivory colored car, Mercedes color code 670! The 250 SE is every bit as capable as the 280 SE. If you took a 'blind comparison test' of the two... If you got into a car NOT knowing if it was a 250SE or 280SE, I don't think you could tell a difference!

Test driving this 1963 Mercedes 220SE Cabriolet. This particular car is THE BEST running and driving W111 cabriolet, of any kind, I've ever driven. Just two documented owners since new. Yes I know. I was just wondering if they ever sold the 280 wagon here so I researched it and found the six cylinder wagons were only sold overseas
Very rare indeed. The 280 TE were never imported here other than the grey market to my understanding so those are really “unicorns”.
This is a 280 E sedan, not a TE (wagon). These sedans were offered through U.S. dealers in ‘82, it was purchased new in the u.s. and is a u.s. spec car, not a grey market import.

Ended up selling the car to my dad... my parents were in town visiting... we came over the to showroom. He sat in the E Type Jaguar, then asked me some questions about the E class. He liked the answers... "Can I drive it?" he asked... so off we went. We got back from the drive and he said... "I'll take it." and that was that! He's pretty much my best customer. (2 x R129s, a 300CE cab and others... ) The apple doesn't far fall from the tree.

M103 is plenty adequate for the 126, It can still cruise at over 100 mph. all day.
automatic just has so many rpms over 70 mph :(

Hi, thanks for the review. I’m looking exactly the same model, same specs and year, with 61,000 miles on the odometer. The price is $16.000 + Tavt + registration. Do you think this is a good deal considering market today? I had one Mercedes c class diesel and I loved the car. Was very reliable. The thing is that I’m not much familiar with a Mercedes V6 petrol engines and if they are reliable. Any opinions on that? Thanks
The M276 E350 is exceptionally reliable. Some even refer to it as the Japanese - Toyota engine of Mercedes.
Sorry for the late reply... I do think that's a good deal. I sold this one for $15,000 even... a RWD E class is a tough sell in snowy, upstate, NY... but it ended up going to a buyer in Kansas. The fact that this was one ONE owner car and extremely well cared for, tires less than 6 months old, etc. etc. made it a pretty good deal too. Thanks for watching and good luck on your search!

I have both types in my collection, the W 111, 220 SEb convertible an also W 113 230 SL roadster, the W 111 is much comfortable, W 113 is a sportscar, but I like them all, both car‘s were produced on a extremly high standard in quality and craftmanship. My W111 and also W113 are fited with automatical gear box.
Great cars you have! My first W113 was a '66 230SL with a manual transmission. Sold it to buy an '84 911... two very different driving experiences. If I could choose... I'd take a W111 over a W113. I go to a Mercedes club show and there are a bunch of Pagoda SLs... there are rarely W111 Cabriolets! Thanks for watching.
