Today I looked at the timing chain to see how bad it was in hopes that is my issue why it doesn’t run very well. Pretty soon I will be getting a new timing kit and hopefully it will run good after that!

ford ranger timing chain tensioner problems!

I had a small problem with the tension leaking oil and figured out what my problem was.
do 33's fit on a stock 4x4 ranger? here's your awnser!
zhlédnutí 9KPřed 3 lety
made this video about fitting my 33's on my ranger, because I've seen a lot of debate about it and wanted to show it is possible! also this truck has 4.10 gears with a manual and the gas mileage and power isn't affected by the bigger tires, also its a 4.0L so it helps a lot.

You don't need to remove the intake to get that timing chain tensioner out.
no but it makes it a lot easier
did you remove the front one with a 27 mm open end wrench?
I'm pretty sure I used an adjustable wrench but a wrench would definitely work
Could you use a 27mm flex head wrench for the front tensioner and not have to remove anything?
I'm not sure if there would be enough room to get it on the tensioner. If you could get it on its probably possible to get it out without removing everything else
@@stillmandelorme5189so the main reason you removed the intake was because you couldn’t tighten the new tensioner down tight enough without removing it?
@@XDLaughPLUR It just makes it a lot easier to work on by removing it.
i may be mistaken but I believe there are 3 tensioners total? 2 of them as shown in these series of videos and the 3rd is behind the front cover which requires much more labor. Is there no point in replacing just these 2 if the 3rd one could still be bad?
@@XDLaughPLUR There are only the two of them, the rest are internal and you would have to do a whole timing job to change those. Most of the time its just the external ones that go bad
Awesome thank you
If they ripped your back flat Fender Flare off and if they're rubbing on the front driver side they do not fit
How does it do turning the 33’s? I got a ranger looking to turn into a overland rig my only concern is it bogging down going through the mountains. I got the 3.0 motor
i have the 4.0 and 4.10 gears, it goes really nice with that setup never have to down shift going up hills.
Do yourself a favor and just throw the whole engine away. What a crap design
weak shif
How did you unplug those temp sensors with intake in the way
I took the throttle body off and the rad hose off and it makes it easier but still kinda hard to get to. I used a screw driver to pry up on it so when you get the clip undone it comes off easy
Shackle lift help if you put one one?
I did end up putting one on and it helped a lot, doesn't rub anymore
@@stillmandelorme5189 shackle kit 2” is for mine this summer. Too cold to put it in currently.
Does it rub short answer yes
Replace timing chain tensioner on 4.0 Ford ranger
How many turns did you do on the keys? Is it obvious when it’s maxed out?
yes it is obvious because the bolts are screwed all the way in. the passenger side will probably go higher it did on mine so make sure you measure the heights to keep it even
That palm wrench is rad
ya they are really handy. its a gearwrench they're pretty cheap on amazon
@stillman delorme I am sold. Thanks. The tensioner just went on my 89 f150. Your video is so helpful, thanks
@@BackAlleyScamChats glad I could help!
And how wide are the tires
they are 12.50 wide
You know what offset the wheels are?
they are stock wheels I think the offset is around 0
I bet if you put a leveling kit on the front those tires would clear
Dude ! Ive got a 2000 Ranger and I love the hell outta that front bumper! Where are you located? My stock bumper is rotted out on both sides
Hey man, I'm in Alberta and I custom made the front bumper. I also put a 3" lift on shortly after that video and it clears with no rubbing at all but wasn't very bad at all without the lift.
My 4.0 explorer leaked I'm front tensioner. It would not stop. Ended up stripping out. I had a aluminum cap made and welded to block. No leaks. This motor is designed by idiots.
ya its not a great design but mine leaked after this video no matter what I did so I bought one from ford and it worked perfect right away. If you bought a cheap one like I did it might be not working correctly from the start
@@stillmandelorme5189 did it rattle at startup?
@@jimmybob562 ya it did for a couple seconds but stopped once it made oil pressure
@@stillmandelorme5189 apparently they rattle at startup no matter what. I’m not too keen on wasting $250 on a tensioner I don’t need. I replaced everything (front was done a year ago) and it still does it.
@@stillmandelorme5189 did your aftermarket tensioner leak from the get go or did it take time to leak down?
Those are just puddles 😂
Now that's good clean dirty fun yee yee✌🤠
Damn!..lol
people like you you need a attitude adjustment but you young punk kids
hey why you want to take a good car like that and f*** it up because you're f***** yourself
