Hello. I found your channel through @abookolive. "Rooted" is on my TBR. I'm looking forward to seeing more from you and talking about books and more.
😊
I ♥️ Holy Basil 🫖
Ah, there's another book about regenerative farming by Liz Carlyle that seems very similar. Found on SG. Both on the climathon list!
THinking of the labor that makes a garment makes me remember the historical US city relationships, now being reproduced globally: recent immigrants slaving away at exquisite haute-couture for a rich lady who wears it once or twice for status. Pretty sure several histfic books have been written with this as a topic. We need to treasure the products of labor better, for sure <3
The garbage bag thing, yeah...I suppose a smaller bag will work if you just leave it standing on its own, rather than in a bin that it can't cover, so that stuff falls into the gaps... I've tried many things for this and have a patchy strategy! But the cat litter garbage is the one I reeeeally don't want to break or have a new discovered hole lol
Ooh, a different "rooted"! That one looks good too <3
Yes, over halfway done! I had to check my cross over since I'm starting another year-long reading challenge (HRCYED!), and realized I'm only 4 prompts away from finishing Climathon!! 🤩
I haven't had a 5-star read yet this year so I'm still hoping for that. One of my best reads this year was The Queen of Dirt Island by Donal Ryan. All the chapters are really short so you fly through it. -Becks
"I don't even care what it's about." Yeah ngl, in regards to Kimmerer that's about accurate!
im so glad someone else agrees!
Veg nation ❤ get growing peeps

audiobook + biking it's THE BEST!
i need to do it more!
😊
I am just starting this book. My sister really liked it (not a mother) and I have tow kids. I couldn't tell based on the ratings where it was. I think you may have a point with the mom vs no mom opinionI am only a chapter in but it was a good first chapter!
I am glad to hear your sister liked it! Have you finished the book? I'm curious to hear your thoughts =)
Extraordinary novel. Thanks!!
I am glad you liked it too!
😊
If I like a book I give it five stars and if I don’t like it I don’t rate it. With one exception! I went back and gave that one one star to keep other people from being tricked into reading it.
Ooh this is interesting! I am now curious what book it was that you gave one star to?
It was Against All Odds by Jeffery H. Haskell. It was a space opera, thousands of years in the future and thousands of light years away but at the end of the book it becomes clear that it’s American Christians fighting Muslims (and some Russians). I felt duped!
I 100% agree that Goodreads just doesn't care! I think it was a decent site before Amazon bought it, but they haven't made any real improvements in YEARS! I'd get off it completely, but I have a couple of groups that use it for their communication.
Thanks for doing the tag! Yeah I get the difference between real dnfs and kind of dnfs haha. Yeah I'm probably like super lenient with my rating where I feel like if I learned something new or whatever the book starts at like 3.5 or something and goes up from there lol
Yes, I feel like if something gave me a new insight or something, then I just want to rate it higher haha. But if it isn't much more useful than a quick google search, was it that useful? I have no idea!
So happy I figured out how to keep up with you. 🎉🎉🎉😊 Please ask us followers to turn on the freaking bells 😂😂😂
Thank you Joy! Sorry, I am the worst at self promotion!
❤
a new viiiideeeeeeooooo! whoop whoop!
Here she is!
I want this book. Is it available in pdf?
I am not sure! I would assume that if you try to search for it, you may be successful =)
@@WellTraveledBooks I got it's hardcopy... It's amazing and so painful
🙋♀️ Yes in a slump now! Haven’t read an amazing book all year. Last week finished The Three Body Problem (not generally a sci fi reader but was on board to try this). Then picked up the 2nd book in the series The Dark Forest. Got halfway and just hit a wall. Skimmed the rest of it and have no plans to read the third. They are big books (each bigger than the prior) and when you can only get through 30-50 pages M-F…. well that doesn’t help. I am also a mood reader and am going to be really selective about what I pick up next… 😫🤞
It is so hard! Do you think that the three body problem put you in a slump because you don't normally read sci-fi? Sometimes a book takes too much effort out of me. I hope that you found something that your mood is calling for!
@@WellTraveledBooks I think it came down to the length. And knowing I was in for a good 600 pages on the third book. I wanted to get into other books. 👍😁
Yeah I try to only tbr a couple books ahead of time and then most mood read different nature things. I hardly have ever read Classics but Dickens is like at the bottom of the barrel of classics for me lol, I just don't like his stuff for whatever reason. When I'm in a slump I don't really stop reading but all my books seem to become really short haha like 200 or less pages until I'm out of it or something
I think reading shorted books in a slump is a great idea! Also, I usually love Dickens but this one did not hit for me at all ahhh. Having multiple books going at once is soo important for mood readers!
😊
Last year I was in the same kind of slump of meh reads. My New Year’s resolution this year is to only read books by authors from countries I haven’t read yet. It has really gotten me out my meh book slump and I keep it fun by keeping track of the books on a map.
I think that is a great way to keep it fresh! Do you have any books that have really stood out to you this year? =D I love the map idea too!
@@WellTraveledBooks I did find a new favourite. After I read Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche I immediately reread it!
@@HeatherGashgarian I have read a few of her other books but not half of a yellow sun! it must be amazing if you read it twice in a row, thats so cool =D
@@WellTraveledBooks I guess it must have just been the right book at the right time but it’s such a treat when that happens!
I am also in a slumpy-slump though now I am reading The God of Small Things and it's a magical book that slowly drags me out of this yucky, sticky slump. You must read it in paper though, the language is gorgeous, I underline full paragraphs ❤
Is it the season of reading slumps? It absolutely must be! I am so glad to hear you are liking the god of small things, I think i will like it too once I find my physical copy
My favorite person is baaaaaack! And we are both in a massive slump - great 😂
Slumping away my friend haha I like when we sync up with things but not this reading slump!
Shamteram!!💗💗
hi, this is my first time finding your channel and funnily enough i was here for another book and checking out your other videos. I'm from Turkiye and im so happy to find this video of yours. Hope you had a fun time in Turkiye. Thank you for sharing your opinions on Turkish literature! <3
Yes I had a great time in Turkiye! I miss the cats and the people everyday! =) I was so happy to get to read some Turkish books while there =) Thank you for watching and commenting!
Agree that booktubers are people outside the norm! On booktube people see my shelves and quantity of books and think it is normal. But if anyone I know IRL comes over for the first time they are always shocked. I agree its possible to see if someone has or hasn't read a book by their review at times, especially if you have read it yourself. I like watching wrap ups to learn about new books for my tbr or to avoid as well. And sometimes for personality as well. Wrap up videos and unhaul videos are my favourites to watch, so that is my opinion basically!
Very much outside the norm! I think most of my friends outside booktube maybe own 1-20 books total! So that would be much more considered the norm I think. And I love hearing that wrpa ups are one of your faves =) Everyone likes different things and that is awesome.
Very late watching this, but I thought the exact same thing as soon as Jack said that line (I watch probably 75% of his videos). A classic Booktube statement that has been made in one form or another for ages. -Becks
Yes! It really showed the bubble that he lives in.
My grandad being of Spanish origin gave me this book shortly before he died, having read this book I honestly was taken aback by how immersive the story is and it is my all time favourite book. One that will be passed down my family for generations to come!
It really does feel like the perfect book to pass along within the generations! That is so special of your grandad =)
Thanks for tagging! Love these questions, I need to get back to doing some tags here soon.
Really?! 😮 do you love to receive comments?! 😊😊😊 so it'll be my first comment 😂😂😂 well... I've never commented, but im always here watching all your videos. Btw, now that we are "talking," it reminds me that i should send you the bill of the books that you have been making me buy... forcing me, manipulating me 😂😂😂😂❤❤❤
Hello yes I do love to receive comments! And I also disppeared right after you commented haha I'm so sorry. I am still waiting for that bill of books I have made you buy ;) Thank you for watching!! <333
“We expect infinite growth not just from the economy but from ourselves”
let's do a bit more degrowth mindset, please. nothing is able to maintain infinite growth =(
@WellTraveledBooks That's the aim of the quote, that infinite growth is ridiculous (for both the economy and people) and that we shouldn't be thinking of ourselves like productivity machines but I haven't given enough context to get that across, sorry! I just like it because even though I'd come to realisation that trying to continually grow profits/gdp actually gets in the way of meaningful progress and good social outcomes, I hadn't applied it to myself and was continually expecting myself to read more and more books every year for example (amongst many other things).
Great check in!
Thank you!
It's my first year participating and I'm so excited! The God of Small Things is among the books I recommended in my video about the Readathon, so I'm excited to see someone will be picking it up and I'm curious to know your thoughts. I would just advise checking the TW for this one though because it touches on very difficult topics.
Yaay! So glad to hear you are participating =D I will check out the trigger warnings, just in case. Thank you for letting me know. I hope that we both end up enjoying the book overall =)
Really interesting points, especially the escapism element.
Sometimes can be a good coping mechanism, but other times it can be too much escape
I love wrap up videos (from booktubers I know well) because I get to add books to my TBR that I'm interested in, and also know what books to stay away from or avoid.
This sums it up perfectly for me! <3
I think wrap ups are actually the most valuable part of booktube. I dont watch booktube to study literature but to be entertained 😂 And also I think this is a very similar topic to the booktok one. If you want a specific type of content, it is out there. Just stop watching stuff you dont enjoy and let others have fun 🤷🏼♀️
Entertainment babbyyy! Whatever type of content someone wants, it is out there. If what is coming up in your feed isn't for you, the feed can be very quickly adjusted with a couple searches haha
I agree with just about all of your points. I watch wrap-ups rather than single book reviews because I don’t want to know much about the plot of a book before I read it. I do enjoy knowing if a book is more character or plot-focused and if the pacing is fast or slow as that can tell me if I’m likely to enjoy it or help me adjust my expectations, and wrap-ups usually offer that kind of info. I believe most BookTubers are being honest about what/how much they read. People read at very different paces and have varying amounts of free time, not to mention those who listen to audiobooks while doing other things. Good for them if they’re reading thirty books a month. That doesn’t make me feel any kind of pressure. Everyone just needs to focus on what works best for them.
I also like to be mostly unaware of what a book is about before I begin to read it. I don't want to know the plot, or any spoilers. Give me the vibe and general details and then I can usually get a feel for if I am going to enjoy a book or not. So true that people read at extremely varying speeds and also have such different responsibilities vs. free time. I wish that we all didn't feel pressure and could just have more fun with it all! That's the point at the end of the day =)
Theres nothing entertaining avout wrap-up videos.
No stress, lots of other content to watch =)
😊
Nice discussion. Will have to watch the original video now. When I watch wrap ups it's mostly just because I'm watching the channel I'm subbed to. I don't really seek out wrap ups per se. Since I read mostly nonfiction I always choose quality over quantity lol (sometimes you have to take what you can get on niche topics haha) but I can see how others might be pressured to read more with the fiction genres. Still haven't figured out how some people average 300+ pages a day over months tho. I haven't done any wrap ups yet since returning though I've been trying to think pf how to do my March one. I think I'm going to use them as my nature walk type video that I keep saying I'll do. Usually in mine I also only focus on the highlight reads of the month
Curious, as a follow up question, when you subscribe to a channel, do you watch all of their videos? I generally don't seek out wrap ups either, they are simply posted by the channels I follow and then I watch them if it looks like books I am interested in. Generally the only videos I do seek out are single book reviews, and those tend to be from channels I am not subbed to. Yesss to nature walk with a wrapup!! That is the perfect combo in my opinion.
@WellTraveledBooks generally if I do the bell thing I try to watch most of a person's videos. Maybe not all, but most anyways depending on length. But there are a lot I sub to but only watch if the video seems interesting for me as a lot of people to fantasy and classics and stuff and I rarely watch that sort of thing
12:04 - This moment should be instated into the Booktube Hall of Fame 😂
“vague banalities” (Evans, K (2024) qtd in; Books, W T. (2024) [online])
I stirred the pot, so all could drink tea
Tea is the elixir of life.
Chileeeeeeee this was some educashnl content for me 😮 because a) I didn't even know people might have issues with wrap up videos out of all things! I understand beef with hauls but wrap ups??? What should books tubers post then? Aesthetic bookshops??? utter confoosion 😮 and b)people lie about books they read???? Why? It makes zero sense to me. It's like lying about movies you've watched. Why would one invest in such bizarre loss of breath and time 🤨 Wrap ups is my favorite type of content because it's speed reviews of books actually read rather than look at this pretty thing I am adding to my collection. Now what I can't stand are Friday or weekly reads format where people either gonna tell me how they read 5 books in a week (how bro? Do you have a job?) or discuss the same books they read throughout the month and it's just boring
Yes queeen come through. There needs to be less hate overall. Let people post what they want. Some people will like it, some will hate it. Good thing there is ENDLESS content out there, including tons of aesthetic bookshops and hauls, or so I am told. Love that you love wrapups. <3
