Yes and no. I think I didn't bother changing gears as the rpms feel "comfortable" to me around 5000-6000 which the 5th gear (and later in the ride I had it in 4th for a bit). Also - while it was a great day, the roads were still a little slick in spots. I'm still green, and I wanted to have the ability use the engine to help control speed in addition to my brakes in case I went into a corner a little too hot.

@@ambient_ride That's good thinking 🤔.I had a long gap off bikes & got back into 3yrs ago & I went round a skinny country corner that dropped away & there was about 3inches of gravel dumped on road & front wheel washed out & crashed & broke a few Bones.A farm vehicle was overloaded with gravel & physics on corner ugly & dumped gravel on corner right in Blindspot Police said & said it was bad luck & was leading bike.Wrote bike off but was insured & got Trident 🔱. I'm extremely careful now especially on country roads & our roads ain't the best in NZ 🇳🇿 full of pot holes. Police never did find out which farmer or truck dumped gravel from overloaded vehicle.I went past on Saturday & they have flattened & straightened out corner to change physics & see better.

It's ironic, I actually had very little in terms of rain gear for this ride and I regretted it. The jacket I am wearing in this video is very decent, but is not completely waterproof. Since Vancouver rains 3/4 seasons I have different levels of rain gear. Basically, if there is a chance for a short shower I will wear a textile jacket with water resistance. If there is forecast significant rain then I will normally ride with pullover polyurethane style jackets and pants. I am still on the hunt for a pair of fully waterproof gloves that provides some CE protection and doesn't break the bank. So far the gloves worn in my videos are only water resistant.

@@ambient_ride I use Dririder Nordic 4 Gloves that are winter gloves & waterproof but Dririder is a Australian company & might not be sold in US or Canada.They also have a wiper blade on left index finger which is great for wiping fog & rain away.

The 160km/h was actually not something I was particularly paying attention to until I got into the 140 ish range then the experimentalist in me wanted to see what 5th gear could yield. In terms of riding along 5th at 105km/h - I was checking out the rpm. Oddly enough I have run this in 6th gear and had a rpm of only 500 less at 105km/h than in 5th gear (around 500rpm in 6 vs 5500-5900 in 5th gear). In conclusion, however, that little nuance of 500 rpms can be felt "off" and what you didn't see was my desire to switch into 6th gear. @@ambient_ride I too like to keep a eye 👁️ on the RPM range & what gear etc & have done the same.6th is more for fuel economy & in NZ 🇳🇿 fuel is $3.20 a liter😲.

Been lucky for the most part. We got snow and some cold arctic outflow at the moment. I hope to out riding again soon in about a week.

@@ambient_ride Been 30°- 32° last 3days far to hot 🥵 to get out.I washed my Trident 🔱 instead of going for ride.I might go out tomorrow night after 5:30-6pm till about 8:30-9pm when it's cooled down & nice riding at that time too as in early in morning 6am-9am before it gets to hot.

I was quite impressed too. It was my first time along that road.

I just checked out Lake Taupo on Google 360. The Volcanic Loop Hwy looks like a good ride. It is quite scenic.
