No, it's not clickbait. We spent $0 on excursions on our Alaska cruise. Seeing that the average amount people spend per port in Alaska is $300, we wanted to explore Alaska without any excursions! This should give you a lot of ideas on what to do that won't break the bank. Instead of doing expensive excursions, we spent the $ on an upgraded room and got an aft balcony. Is that a whale @43:38?
@Kuropii0 no unfortunately, just a wave breaking over a rock.
I’m so sick of FN Liberals and their BS protests!
If you get seasick, take your medicine (patch or pills) the day before or as soon as you wake up. Once you are sick, it's too late.
@@joannechludzinski1805 Thank you, I made a whole video about seasickness tip as well.
Thank you so much for this video! I have a few questions: You mentioned Adventure Lab has a Geocaching tour in Sitka? Can you tell me more about that? I’ve never used Geocaching but I am very curious and this seems fun! What time does Starbucks open? Is there a mini Starbucks in the Garden Café Bar? At 1:55:55 you mention your favorite spot on the ship; is that the Observation Lounge or a different area? The funky creatures in the low tide that squirt water are called geoduck (we call them gooeyducks in Seattle); they are a type of clam! I think the weird orange things were anemones that were tucked into themselves due to being out of water. I could be wrong though! Thanks again & happy travels :)
@lunaesqueda7472 For Aventure Lab, just do a quick Google search for Adventure Lab Geocaching. It is a separate app, and the video they provide as an overview is much better than anything I can explain. But basically it's a walking tour where you have to also hit certain waypoints and answer questions. It's a lot of fun. For Starbucks, I believe it opened at 6 AM each day. There are no other locations than that one. And my favorite spot is called The Brewhouse. We didn't go there much on this Alaska cruise because of having the aft balcony, but on my last one I was there every day. I hate the Observation Lounge... way too many people.
@@journeywiththejaneks awesome! I initially downloaded the regular geocaching app, but now I have the Adventure Labs one and it's much more obvious. Thanks again for your tips :)
@lunaesqueda7472 yes if you click on an adventurelab in the geocaching app it will bring you to the other app :)
If you didn't get off at Wards Cove, then you wouldn't go through the big ol' gift shop.
@@runpny Correct. Only on NCL would you dock there.
Is there an electrical outlet in the bathroom?
I do not believe there is one. Normally the bathrooms on the cruise ships don't, or if they do, they have a shaver outlet.
Great video. I am booked for a May 2025 cruise on the NCL Encore. Even though May is still early in the season, there are 6 cruise ships scheduled in every port we visit >_<. Demand growing for Alaska. This time is probably good for self guided touring. I noticed a lot of the big ticket excursions, like the helicopter to glaciers, are not open until at least May.
@snow56border You will have a great time. I've done most of the NCL ships but Encore is one of the few I have not been on get.
@@journeywiththejaneks cool. I specifically picked this itinerary for the glacier bay national park cruising day.
Any regrets on port times and how far away the ship docks in port doing NCL? I really want to book with them, but I keep hearing to be aware of timing. Also, we are looking at doing September, less busy season - does that make any difference?
@@michellebone6577 I wouldn't book an Alaska cruise with NCL again due to these issues.
Those purple things are a type of starfish.
Sunflower sea stars! I looked them up when I got home, so cool!
Those are shell fish probably clams under the sand.
What deck were you on? Room number for reference
Room 15280. There is a room tour at 6:30
❤were they Minke whales?
I am not positive, but from whale watching in Iceland where they are prevalent, they appeared to be.
Southeast Alaska is a temperate rainforest and is just like the Washington coast. I love the Totems here. They all tell a story of the people.
I’m going in July on the same cruise. That you for your info. Taking a lot of bonine for the open ocean. The inside passage is usually smooth. Rain is common in this area. It is so much like Seattle but it is hot here this summer.
Get ginger chews and plain crackers when the sickness is bad. Be sure to brig your seasickness meds.
Absolutely Magnificent..❤
It really is! It was a magical place!
What hotel did you stay at? We're taking this exact cruise in April 2025 and are looking for a hotel to stay in so we can fly in a day early. And thanks to your video, we actually booked the same room too!
We stayed at the Crown Plaza downtown. Easy to get to from the metro from SeaTac. We took an Uber the morning of the cruise to the port, but you could have walked. It was just too much luggage to be lugging around for our comfort. Go glad you booked an aft, it was amazing! We spent our $ there versus excursions and it was well worth it!
Thank you very much… great video.. looking forward to view your other videos
Thank you, please let me know if you have any questions.
Not sure if you mentioned it or i missed it, but what time were you at the port?

Wow, you did a lot of walking! How many steps or miles did you walk?
I went back and checked my Fitbit data for the day. Total was 20,037 steps, or 8.6 miles!
@@journeywiththejaneks I'm 67, I don't think I could do that much. I did 15,000 once, though, so maybe I can do it in Sitka. I'll try my best. I want to see as much as I can on our May 2025 Alaskan cruise

All you can drink Starbucks on the Norwegian Cruise Ships?! I better not tell my wife that! LOL Paying money to see people work tour is not my cup of tea either. I would expect to see the bridge and engine room instead. Haven't been on NCL for about 25 years, going to the Bahamas. We enjoyed our Alaska trip, but it was on the Royal Caribbean. @@KatyandMe I didn't pay for the tour. It was free as a Latitudes Platinum member. I wouldn't have paid for it either :)
NCL SUN is not unlimited so I’m guessing this NCL isn’t as well. $15 daily maximum.
@@Kuropii0 This was 100% unlimited with the Starbucks specific package. We drank 4-5 beverages a day.
The food was ass. The only way to get reliable drinking water is to pay for it. NCL is a scam and the Bliss is a prison on water.
Definitely do not agree about the food. NCL has the best food of any cruise line we have been on.

It was a fun day!
Love this video! I am just about to book an Alaskan cruise for May 17, 2025, which happens to be our 45th anniversary. What were the temps when you were there in April?
The temperature varied, at night in the 30's and 40's, during the day, I would say 50's.
F*ck Seaworld!! Taking money out of my account without even notifying me !!
I believe that they auto-renew passes, so you will need to contact them to cancel.
@@journeywiththejaneks Thanks. Looks like we were able to accomplish that. We will see when the refund hits our account . Almost $600. So angry. “I” want to decide when to renew our passes, not have Seaworld decide ! I wouldn’t mind if they sent an email and asked, but nothing. Not even in Spam mail.
@stevenmorris2293 yep this happened to me as well! I thought when you finish your initial 1 year pass it ends. But I was wrong! It's definitely shady.
Can you tell me about the weather in early September
From what I researched, it's going to be a bit cold, highs in the 50s.
This was easily one of the best cruise vlogs I have watched. Your style of sharing was very engaging…and were those things in IPS octopus 🐙??

Glad San Francisco typically has only one ship boarding ❤(Crown Princess 2024)
Great video, thank you
Thanks! Please let me know if you have any questions!
How long was the ride for?
Not too long, less than a 40 minute train ride.
Again thanks for good info. We may do a whale watching excursion but they’re all so expensive and we’re traveling with our son, DIL & 2 grandkids so it could easily get out of hand!
Which port are you thinking of doing it in? Juneau? It's a risk to wait to book, as they may sell out, but I would almost want to wait to see how many whales you see from the ship. When I did the cruise in July, we saw hundreds of whales throughout the week.
@@journeywiththejaneks it seems like Icy Straight Point is the only port where there’s enough time for an excursion. Since we’re going in July maybe we don’t need to do it & just hope to see whales etc. from the ship 🙏🏼
@@judyklock7597 If you want to do an excursion and see the port, then yes Icy Strait Point is probably the only one. The others I think you would have time for an excursion, but not an excursion plus exploration time. When we went in April, that port was awesome, whale very close to shore, seal, sea lions... lots of wildlife at no cost. Definitely check out the shore when it's low tide. That's an experience you won't forget with all the strange critters... and it's free.
@@journeywiththejaneksthanks again for your help!
We just flew with Virgin Atlantic and loved it. Comfortable roomy seats. Great food & service
We have flown in Economy, Premium Economy, and Upper Class. And we wouldn't spend the money for Upper Class again. Very impressed with their economy product!
We’re going on this cruise in July and now I’m really apprehensive about it 😢
Which part are you apprehensive about? I think you will be ok, because you know what the issues will be going into the cruise and can plan accordingly. If you're not doing an excursion, just be ready to disembark immediately, and you won't have issues. We didn't, and that caused us to experience the longer lines for shuttles.
We don’t have any excursions set up but I’m dreading the shuttle bus to Ketchikan. I did see that the time in port is limited but really wanted to explore the area. I’ll just make the best of it!
@judyklock7597 Just be prepared and ready to disembark before the all clear is given and you will be OK. I would also suggest not doing shopping downtown, head back to Wards Cove and shop there. That will relieve a lot of worry with the shuttle back.
@@journeywiththejaneks thanks so much for your advice!
@@judyklock7597 you're welcome. I'm glad I could help!
Thank you for sharing your review of Norwegian Bliss! 💙
@norwegiancruiseline thank you for your comment. Happy to be a platinum latitudes member. But this itinerary is really rough with the short port days and amount of shuttles. Not a fan, wouldn't do Alaska on NCL again. Cruise in 2019 on the Joy was much, much better.
Hello - Thank you for the very nice video. Questions - What kind of Chase card has the Starbuck Perks and Lounge access? TIA
None, it's two different cards. I used points with Chase Ultimate Rewards that I had stacked up when I booked the trip, and Chase booking happened to have the Starbucks perk as an option. And for the lounges, I am assuming you are asking about airport lounges, and we use a Venture X Card by Capital One.
Just a few blocks away from those protestors are homeless encampments filled with addicts, drugs, poop, and garbage costing tax payers to clean up. And they are protesting a cruise liner that brings the city jobs and tourists. Idiots.
Too long and boring!!!
Yep, it sure is. That's because it's ALL of my 1-day videos combined into one. Each of the daily videos are less than 20 minutes long.
@@journeywiththejaneks Ignore the hater; this video was awesome! Thanks for taking the time to document your trip and for compiling it all into one video. It was super helpful for planning my upcoming Alaskan trip on the Bliss, and now I can manage my expectations about port times. Happy travels :)
how did you return the book to the free library? you are supposed to take one, leave one.
That's not completely accurate. First question on the Little Free Library's FAQ's on their website: "A Little Free Library is a free book-sharing box where anyone may take a book or share a book. They function on the honor system. You do not need to share a book in order to take one. If you take a book or two from a little library, try to bring some to share to that same library, or another in your area, when you can." I was not expecting to find one, so I didn't bring a book to leave. But hopefully this video shows people that there is a Little Free Library, so other cruise guests can leave more books!
Thanks for another great video! I have a question, when you guys took the free gondola back to the ship, then which way did you guys walk to get to Honnah? I missed that. We’re going on the same exact cruise beginning of July . Thanks again!
To walk to Hoonah, go towards the old cannery building. That's the direction you want to go to head to downtown. Just continue to hug the coastline as you head out of the cannery and past the donut stand. You may be the only one walking that way, and it may not seem like you can walk out that way, but you can.
Ok thank you for the reply

Best time to do this cruise is June thru August
Agreed, if you're only going to do this cruise once in your lifetime, it's definitely better in the summer. I have done it in July before, and we decided to try early in the season to see if the lower price balanced the negatives.
There is a coast guard station in Sitka
