The break-in period you're talking about is because Benchmade knives run on washers vs bearings in the Iridium. Washers polish themselves against the blade over time and smooth-out. Bearings start out perfectly smooth and can get worse over time due to debris getting in the bearing.

This is my everyday carry pack! Been wearing it for a couple months daily and I love it. I also have the XL. Only complaint on that one is it rides up my waist when I sit in the car sometimes.
