    Good walkthrough on the RTT. I have a Kings Big Daddy swag and use their 100mm self inflating mattress in it that works a treat in the swag.. do you think that would fit inside the RTT ? My swag rolls up pretty much the same size as my sons swag (same Big Daddy Deluxe) with the 75mm foam mattress that comes standard with that swag. What tub rack are you running to put the RTT on ? Have you installed any bracing for the rollershutter ? Looking at something similar for my PX1 Wildtrak.

    • @rangertouring
      @rangertouring Před 2 měsíci

      Hey Mate, if you deflate it and fold it up it would fit no worries if you also took the current mattress out. With the mattress still in, it would likely fit but be a bit of a squeeze. The swag is hands down more comfortable, but overall I am a fan of the roof top tent. Tub rack wise its from a guy on the Sunshine Coast who makes his own. If you look up NFA fab you will find his page - it comes with a brace kit and he installed on the day. I am overall very happy with the product.

    What tips would you give for maintaing the gearbox temp? Do you usually 4wd in 4H and then set the auto in Sports mode and select the gear that you want to use or let the auto run between the gears as needed? I am thinking of putting an electric fan on my auto gearbox dual core transmission cooler at the moment.

    • @rangertouring
      @rangertouring Před 2 měsíci

      Hey mate, I’ve got an external oil cooler fitted and am getting a thermal bypass fitted shortly. I have a scan guage and more or less drive to the temperature. If I’m in soft sand or driving steep hills, I will always run the car in low range as it doesn’t get as hot. At Stockton Beach I had it in high range and it got very hot, very quickly. I will use it in sports mode to control what gear I’m in, by doing that I can usually keep the auto temp under 100 even in sand. It does start to climb up a little higher if I’m conducting a long decent in low range

    • @chrisduckworth2022
      @chrisduckworth2022 Před 2 měsíci

      @@rangertouring depending on the terrain, I swap back and forth between sports mode and drive in either 4H or 4L. Despite many peoples comments about the Ranger gearbox, it is actually pretty clever and does a fair job of managing it's temps if left to self manage. 100% agree to swap into sport mode for steep climbs/descents but as soon as it levels off a bit, I swap back to Drive and you will be amazed at how quickly the gearbox jumps up to a much higher gear, relieving some of the stress. I'd also advise that if you do a lot of deep mud driving, to make sure you get right down into the bottom of the radiator with a hose, especially if you have bash plates protecting the cooling zone of the engine bay. When my first intercooler failed due to the winch cabling being run up against it and eventually wearing through the fins, Ford found that all the radiators at the front had about the bottom 3rd of each one caked in mud which impacted cooling performance. Looks like you had some good tracks there and saw some cool spots !!

    Snorkel was standard on my base model BT50! Along with the e locker. Huge mistake putting your charger under the bonnet. Battery sits in the rear left in a space that is useless. Makes access easy. I think your setup is crap! Too bad if you don't like that. But don't put up a video saying it's the "ultimate". Because it isn't. Camping in Western Australia and doing a trip around, the shelter is meant to be for sleeping, and sleeping well and comfortably. It’s not meant to be a house, and would be best suited when effort and time to set it up and keep it is kept to minimum. Swags beat every other shelter options including roof top tents. Far more sheltered if you pop it under an awning/tarp, and a piece of tarp under that tents can’t benefit often. And this video further shows why swags requiring pegs are rubbish. The best I’ve found is actually the wanderer extreme heavy duty swags due to being able to be completely peg free and do well even in hail. Slap a Monsta mat inside and bring a simple usb powered hand vacuum and the take down doesn’t even require any effort when rolling up.

      Hi mate, thanks for the feedback. I do actually have a Wanderer swag which wasn’t used for this video as it was similar in size to the Darche Dusk til Dawn swag (bit smaller though). That swag has been my go to for about 5 years and I’ve always found it reliable and comfortable. With that said, pending your style of camping, these days we have a roof top tent and I’m loving the space and practicality for on the move camping. However, you definitely take a hit with regards to mattress comfort and performance in poor weather
