When my parents bought a retirement property in central California, the twenty acres was surrounded by barbed wire fences. Since we had no intentions of keeping horses or cattle, the first thing that my brother and I did was to remove them. Then we had a pile of t-stakes and coils of rusty barbed wire. My brother had the idea and I had the fabrication skills to make a herd of cattle down in the meadow out of it. So we took images of cows and scaled them up to full size and started cutting and bending and welding, then wrapping in the barbed wire. The first one we just made on the flat floor of the barn. So we put it in the most level spot down in the meadow. For the rest , we picked the spot where we wanted them to stand and measured the relative heights on each hoof and built them in the barn to fit. Now we have a small herd of barbed wire cattle down in the meadow to represent each member of the family. My Mother's name is Barbera, so she is the first one and is named Barb. My father is a redhead, so he's named Rusty and is standing nearby. I'm the youngest of the herd, curled up between them named Pokey. And my brother is the punk assed teenager staring down passers by near the road and is called Spike.
