I’m a new ant keeper and how to hibernate ants confuses me. Am I supposed to continue to feed them? Do I change out the water? How long do I hibernate them? I’ve read differing opinions so I’m wondering how you hibernate your colonies.

I have a male and female. Both the same jade colour but the male has black spots too. Both incredibly aggressive. The male will jump.and rum at anything Had to be hidden as will try and attack other cages nearby. The fake hapoly takes down sub adult locusts without an issue. The male also tries to fight the mister bottle

Found a bunch in my backyard but I think they came from one of my neighbors yards since they all have a bunch of plants & they really take care of them. Took 3 in, it might be the start of something for me or I might just completely fail but regardless I’m ready for the experience. Wish me luck lol

I've always fed my mantis crickets, never had issues.

I just got my mantis, and before i got her i watched this video, it helped me SO much with what type i should buy, along with what i should get and how to care for my new ghost mantis! unfortunately, i couldnt get a humidity gauge since it pushed the price over my budget. This also helped me identify Thistle was a female! shes currently settled in and recently had a meal of a small cricket! (hopefully it doesnt hurt her, the cricket was small and farmed though)

What type of water do you use to mist? We have read wildly contradictory information. Some say to use distilled water while others say distilled water does not have enough minerals etc. necessary. We are in an area that uses chlorine and chloramine in the treated water - left out for 48 hours the chlorine will evaporate but the chlorine will not. We've also heard from the local reptile store that they use a water conditioner to remove the chlorine and chloramines. We've also heard though that this is unsafe. Thanks for any advice!

Visiting Beijing in an 800ish year old neighborhood I woke up in the middle of the night. I saw two shadowy figures. One was in a chang shan and fedora. What ip man may have worn back in the day. Next to him was a young boy in a dynasty robe for young princes. Years later back at home I learned about Jiangshi. So the hat man was supposed to be a handler and the prince was supposed to be the jianshi. Two mischievous spirits whose prank flew right over my head. I didn't have the cultural references to be scared of them. Then they vanished. Also, if it was my imagination then why would I conjure up something I know nothing about at the time...

Yes I often rely on Google Translate myself. 😂 I grew up watching Hong Kong zombies ahem…. Hong Kong “Jiāng Shī” movies by Lam Ching-Ying. At video timing @8m50s some slight correction, the “Jiāng Shī” do not sense humans through the sound of breathing, they detect humans through the smell of “Yáng Chì”, or the Yáng energy when humans attempt to exhale or breathe out. Anyway kudos thanks for helping me to bridge my childhood memories into the English language.

I'm not convinced that they are actually communal. I think their initial tolerance to one another is an evolutionary mechanism to stop them wiping themselves out if they're confined to a smaller area in the early stages of their lives. By the time they're preying on each other, they would have already separated in the wild. That's what I think anyway :D

Thinking on getting one, but I have a few questions that I need addressed before getting one (mainly just for advice) If I were to get one, (and this would be my first time raising a mantis) what gender of mantis should I go with? I feel like I should go w/ male because I don’t want a bunch of baby mantises crawling around after the female lays the eggs. Also, should I look at a certain brand for cages/habitats? Not sure if the cage that I was going to get would be a good fit for the mantis. (Last question) what type of flooring should I use preferably? (Coconut husk, soil, etc…)
