Very nice! Thank you for the instruction.
Thanks for watching

👍👍
Nice video
👍
Really liked this. I've worked with Australians on several occasions, they have a wonderful "can do" attitude. We once had that attitude in the USA, now we need to redevelop it. My first time here, I subscribed. Best regards😃
Thanks for taking the time to watch... 👍
NOT 10 minutes. It's still a decent how-to.
Thanks 👍
Interesting tongs
Nice umpire polo bro I have a few myself lol
The most impressive part of this video is your knowledge of both the metric and imperial systems. I need to quit being a dumb American and learn the metric system already.
We still use both over here. 👍thanks for watching.
It's decent, but having done the traditional method as a newbie who could barely get his forge to temp, I don't think it's fast or easy enough for the quality loss There's also nothing wrong with quick methods, but the traditional way is good for the soul
Reinforcing bars? Why not railroad rails? 😁
Why not... keep hammering the metal. 👍Thanks for watching
Cool. I just got gifted a little stick welder, and was looking for a quick project to forge a chip hammer. Gonna have to give this a go.
Awesome... let us know how it goes 👍
Excellent chisel ❤
Thanks for watching 👍
Why has everybody else have to make it seem so hard? Thanks.
Thanks for watching👍
This video was absolutely perfect. All I wanted was a simple right to the point down and dirty way to make tongs. Being new to blacksmithing this is such a helpful video Thank you!
Good stuff👍👊Keep Hammering and thanks for watching.
Great clip.... I just made a brake drum forge . My first project was a horseshoe letter opener. Vise grips are ok...but I really need a set of tongs! I think I can replicate your set! Thanks for helping a beginner.
Awesome👍Keep us updated on how ya go
That was very helpful. I'm going to go and make a set of these. I'll give you a shout out in that video when it comes
👍Have fun making them.
Watching men work and not having to hear them speak is my jam... The ringing of the steel, and the glow of the metal is so relaxing, I've taken to watching a lot of forging shows and I love them all... Thank you very much sir...
👍Thanks glad you enjoy them. Check out this video if you love the hot metal and the ringing steel. czcams.com/video/NO3KwINBDsY/video.htmlsi=5lK-Qy7rKqAIWSq0
meh
Thanks for watching anyway. 👍
Yeah, that was different.
👍
I have rebar that is approximately a quarter inch thick, would that work? and i use a gas forge.
That's probably a bit on the thin side. Always good to use anything to practise ya skills. keep hammering 👍
My bad, I had to check to see of it was indeed quarter inch but it is a hair from the half inch. anyways I hope to see more of your blacksmithing videos, their always fascinating.
Is this archival footage, or are you back Pete?
It's a redo... Come back Pete.
You literally just wasted 11 minutes talkin into a screen and didn't show the vice not a single time. You are a poor excuse for a blacksmith and human
This is cool! I started making one a few days ago. I put an obscenely long bevel angle on it so itll have a pretty much razor edge.
Awesome... keep hammering
Three questions, just so I don't feel toooo incompetent: What size stock was that spring? How many total heats to finish? Who made yoiur anvil?
Pete's anvil is a John Brooks see the video here czcams.com/video/X24YX2TwsNI/video.htmlsi=8Qii98KSWeoKbMQU (Looks about 16mm or 3/4") It's an old car spring from the "Waffle on Wednesday" crate video see here czcams.com/video/XB_tj9NJOBY/video.htmlsi=0kPgCtE3cYs3SsAw and if ya went hard at it you could do it in a handful of heats. Pete likes to enjoy it more than to work at it tho ...so it varies. Everyone's forge and style is different.
This is extremely informative. I just bought my first post vice with 4.3/4 jaws. Slimmer model with very nice alignment. My dad has a heavier model with good alignment and 5.1/4 jaws. I told him I'm gonna confiscate his and restore it for him. I'll have to fabricate the lower securement bracket for both vices but I like those challenges. Great video by the way. You earned my sub. Cheers from Wisconsin.
Cheers 👍Thanks for watching
If is very cheap, of a good size, but totally trashed, even without a screw, I might still buy it. Not as a vice, but as a relatively cheap source of some decent sized good quality wrought iron .... that's going to upset one or two of you ;<)) ps to be fair, you do need to be able to tell the difference between mild steel and wrought.
👍
What diameter stock do you for the tongs? Great video showing another method to do things.
5/8 or 1/2 inch is a good starting size. But practice with what ya have. 👍
sure you know by now, but your audio cut out.
Yeah I've heard sorry about that. I can upload it again to see if it works. 👍
@@forging ok, good luck
good job bro
👍
Lovely video. I haven't seen any tongs hinged like that before. The audio cuts out for me between the 6 and 8 minute marks - did I miss any commentary?
Hi Nick, Thanks for watching. Here is a link to the original creation of the Collins type Tongs. czcams.com/video/BMxO4G_D_t0/video.html Sorry about the audio, it's a CZcams upload issue I think. 👍
Enjoyed your video and loved the way you presented it. Will be fitting 12 doors using your jig methodology soon. Thank you.
Your welcome 👍
Simple but brilliant thankyou. I am about to replace all the doors in my house, so I am making a set today. I’m so impressed with you tip I have subscribed to you channel.
Awesome👍
Nice thumbnail I was searching stake anvils. Did not disappoint! Hahaha. Great video! Minimal fabricating tools to make a beautiful lil anvil from the trash to treasure in an hour. The only question is: did you cook that steak in your forge!!!
Haha... 👍🫣
Going to try to make this cuz iam a woman who has to replace 5 doors that my ex boyfriend destroyed and yes every time I hang a door they never fit so Frustrating so now I have to learn to plane the doors I guess wish me luck yeah by myself so Frustrating se
Enjoy👍
Excellent video, very clear, all makes sense. Liked and subscribed. Thank you 😊
And thankyou👍
@@forging I'm going to look at a leg vice today and will check everything you mention in the video. Great ad-vice!
Would make a great bick for your hardy hole.
Good watch Pete. Great inspiration for us starters! Thanks from the UK
👍your welcome
I believe you need two anvils to make a baby anvil he only has one
Awesome, thanks for watching👍
Hi there. I hope this comes across as constructive criticism, but you used an anvil to make this anvil, sir. I imagine a portion of your audience was interested in this as a "first anvil" type of affair, so, there's that. Great video, though, keep at it.
Thanks for watching👍
Most people giving blacksmithing a serious attempt at starting have access to an anvil or a friend with an anvil. You dont need a London pattern anvil to start on. That is the anvil everyone thinks of. The London pattern anvil design is only about 300 years old. All that an anvil needs to be is some item harder than glowing orange/yellow steel. You can use a piece of oak. It might not last as long as something else but it is an option. Now days you can use any piece of steel to start out with as an anvil. if you noticed he used the little stake anvil to taper the piece of rod. That thing was about an inch wide. You could easily just put a sledge hammer head or a chunk of random steel on a log to raise it up to a nice working height.
100%👍thanks for watching.
Nice vid pete nice to see you back at it im still using the hammer you gave me
Right on👍
Thank you for these instructions! Easy to follow and perfect for me(a amateur blacksmith with limited resources) lol
Awesome👍
Thanks for the video, I always enjoy! 👍
Thankyou.... Share it round...👍
With help would like to reach... 10,000 subs.
@neddidge Blacksmithing You already make great content. All you need is some easy targeted advertising, and you're golden!
Some cool footage there 👍
👍Droning about...lol
Well done. When I made mine, I drew out the reins before installing the rivet/hinge pin, just to have more leverage and distance from the heat.
Awesome... thanks for watching👍
A question from another backyard blacksmith. How long did each heat take to come up to forging temp again?
Not long Peter says, you're always staying busy in the forge anyway
Very good video 👍
Thanks for watching👍
Metallurgy.... what about heat treatment??? Is it now just as soft and likely to bend aging like all mine?? Times?? Cooling. Use oil??? It needs to be hardened again. But not so hard it's brittle. So what is the full technique.?? Others want to know about the endless possibilities in blacksmithing. Please.
Thanks for watching👍
Well done!!!
Pretty cool hey? 🫡👍
You may not know this or maybe you do. Ill be subbing to your channel anyhoo. But one can put spring into a mild steel bar. I had a blacksmith from colonial Williamsburg share with me how to put spring into mild steel.
👍
As a young woman watching this over my bf's shoulder...…10 minute tongs but it's a 16 min video.
Ya gotta add the editing and commentary? lol thanks for watching. 👍
