Salmon will pass that garbage dump in few hours or less, someone will be collecting nice checks for years to come

I would like to see the site of the pulp mill in Tacoma rehabilitated into estuary habitat for salmon and Steelhead. I hope that there's some sort of project planned. I've lived in the Puyallup River Watershed all of my life an watched as development has destroyed habitat and countless opportunities to help salmon and Steelhead have been ignored in favor of growth and tax revenue.

I don't recall you saying how many Steelhead were tagged but I know it wasn't every Steelhead smolt so if 16% of the tags were eaten I can only guess the number of untagged fish that were eaten is at least twice that number?

Hows the project going? Is there any information on how these fish are doing and if any of them were able to spawn in 2022 or 2023? It was to my knowledge that Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group did this exact same supplementation project ~15 years ago with failed outcomes. The supplemented fish had no survival instincts and weren't able to adapt.

Beyond the research, what will NOAA do to rectify the situation? Clearly, either seals must be limitied in their interaction in the estuary or the smolts need to be transported from the stream out to the Ancerson Island area for release. Without action, the research becomes a wasted effort. (IMHO).

That’s cool to see this being used to help herring. You were saying the timing of the runs we have don’t go along with timing of food. I have heard that the original king runs of Salish Sea returned earlier in spring and summer vs August and September. Coho we’re later returning before chum. Then we had steelhead😢

Thank you! I caught one of your fish on 7/2/21. It had a coded wire tag that I looked up. It was about 7 pound Chinook and was three years old. I caught it near James Island so only a few miles from where it was released. Well done!

well if you want to have more fish for the orcas and have biger runs take care of seals carmarantz Canada is already doing so decrease seals and sealions will bring back more bait fish also I see seals bust through schools of hering did you know seals and sealions eat 5× more to equal the body mass

Those ARG fish are garbage Do they even make real redds(as defined by WDFW snow creek criteria). Lastly, do smolt recapture efforts support the amount of digs you're calling "redds"?

Thanks for putting this on CZcams to watch. Would not have been able to watch otherwise. Crazy how a fishing platform can draw thousands of responses and views within an hour. But when it comes to the science and education of how to keep it all here, you guys only a few views and lil responses. Maybe more of a permanent presence with weekly updates of projects and upcoming projects would get more people involved. Thank you for all the work you do and don’t take this as a complaint but just a outside look at how we need to get these issues and solutions publicized regularly so it makes a stronger presence.

This fish killing catastrophe needs to go! If you cannot trust the operators to follow permit requirements, how can we all trust them to operate this facility in a way not to kill fish. 25 mw is not worth the continual mortality on chinook and steelhead in the Puyallup system. If we can do the Elwha, if we are ready to do the Klamath, we can do the Puyallup!

So we need to kill a few, is this the research to get that done?

Thirty years ago I ran into an old boy, probably in his seventies while steel head fishing the Dose. He blamed the decline of salmon and big trout on that bridge. His thoughts were that the bridge kept killer whales out which allowed the seals to overpopulate eating all the fish. Back then there were easily several hundred seals living down at the mouth of the Dose. In the early nineties there was a resurgence of the summer runs int he the Dose, Duck and Skoke. I often wondered if it had anything to do with the bridge collapse in the late seventies.
