Best decision Bethesda made is to make original stories for every fallout game. This way the games can live forever instead of being stuck to a specific railroad. After all in my playthrough i destroyed the NCR and supported clans that would be destroyed in the next game. To me canonically because of my choices NCR shouldn't exist because i stomped them. So the best decision to make OG stories that have background lore to the entire franchise.

Literally the only hot take he has up that I am technically marginally on the same page as him on is about cis women in unarmed combat sports. There is a safety issue there that may feel unfair to trans fighters, but every trans fighter I personally know, including some that are on scholarship, have expressed similar opinions to mine, which are more nuanced that Shad seems capable of. TLDR, the nuanced take is that women and early treatment trans men statistically out perform men in armed combat sports (enough to justify France dividing their shooting team along gender lines before the recent rise in visibility for trans athletes, and for Kendoka to be disproportionately leading Kendo clubs and dojos) and that in unarmed combat, the risk for injury is greater than acceptable when fighters don't share biological sex. To be honest, that is one of a truckload of safety issues plaguing combat sports, a drop in the pan that may be completely compensated for by removing hand protection from the allowed safety equipment, a controversial idea that may or may not completely revolutionize safety by causing fighters to punch only hard enough to risk hand injuries instead of the current situation leading to consistent neural consequences like concussions. Notice how what I just explained wasn't "women will never be stronger than men no matter how much they train" or"trans women are just trying to do their sport in easy mode". While I think it is silly to assume that there are no scumbags taking advantage of the controversy to push their careers forward, the vast majority of trans folks don't want that in any way, at least from my anecdotal exposure to trans athletes in my own life. In my own life, most of the athletes that transitioned were afab not amab, anyway, and one friend actually chose to retire from sports after she transitioned in order to avoid the politics and controversy. Shad here is consistent about two things: he's very nuanced when it comes to defending his faith. He's very nuance averse in all other things. I don't think he's a bad actor. I think he's oblivious, and not capable or willing to fix that, which to some may fit their definition of malicious, but it doesn't fit mine. For me, it is similar to someone just being low intelligence. In SPECIAL terms, Shad has a mid to high Intelligence, maybe 5 to 7, and low perception, like less than four. Charisma is actually a strong suit of his, but without the backing of perception, he's not able to make good use of it now that he's alienated his audience. The Metatron is a bit better about how he comes off: unapologetic about his beliefs and with sources to back them, as well as the compassion to not be a complete dick to everyone that disagrees with him. When I found Shad, I was Mormon. The video he did about the Sword of Laman was actually very well done. Even now, as a person disaffected from the church and fully Atheistic Buddhist, the response to that video was uncalled for. The recent criticisms however, from the past five years or so, are all completely understandable to me. Here’s something really interesting about the Great Journey and Truth’s plan in Halo 2’s original ending that would’ve cleared up a lot of confusion about the setting: The game’s cut third act would’ve taken place on earth and culminated with Chief and the Arbiter storming the Ark (later changed the the portal to the Ark in 3). There it would’ve been revealed that Truth knew all along what the Rings would do, how they’d kill everything. In fact that was his plan all along to wipe the slate clean. In response to this Arbiter would remove his helmet and throw it on the ground, rejecting the title that Truth gave him. He’d then kill Truth and after Chief deactivates the Array the Ark would start to fall apart. Chief would fight his way through a pack of Brutes and the Arbiter would chase after Spark who went off in a different direction. Arbiter would then reach the Data Vault where he’d see a floating sarcophagus. Some rubble would fall from the ceiling cracking the thing open. After the dust clears Arbiter would look inside the sarcophagus and see a humanoid skeleton that acted as the template for the Ark’s machinery to create a new “generation” of Forerunners by molding apes into Forerunners (us). This big reveal is what the Prophets started the war to cover up and in Contact Harvest Mendicant Bias tells the future hierarchs that the artifacts the Luminary detected on Harvest were Forerunners that were “left behind” after the Rings were fired. This revelation would’ve torn the Covenant apart because our existence invalidated their claims to be the true inheritors of the Forerunner’s technology/legacy, and it also disproved the belief that everyone would obtain salvation after the Rings were fired. This had to be covered up. Truth intended to use the Ark to create a new species based on his genome, becoming Hod that way. In a way the Great Journey was a very real thing, but only ONE could walk it. That’s why he had the other two Prophets killed off and plunged his own empire into civil war. He wanted to both consolidate power and eliminate competition. He caused the Great Schism to ensure that the Covenant was too distracted with killing each other to figure out what he was doing. While all of this was happening he’d be safe beneath the Ark’s shield getting ready to restart the reseeding process. If we got that ending Truth’s plan would’ve made perfect sense and Forerunners would’ve been firmly cemented as ancient humans (watch C3Sabertooth’s We Were Forerunner video talking about how for the super majority of Bungie’s run humans and Forerunners were one in the same. The very few things Frank O’Conner had direct control over were the only outliers). That would’ve actually explained a lot of the weird things Truth did, and he wouldn’t have been turned into a raving mad man like in 3 (3’s story is garbage. Outside of a few cool moments and the terminals that Frank O’Conner DIDN’T write it was really vacuous and mostly just spun its wheels with Bungie filling out a checklist of things that needed to be done).

As for positives: Is a shining example of what not to become The only people who follow him still are either children, conservatives, or are just not informed on what Shad talks about

Fallout isn't woke, it's just realistic and representative of people. We might hate the communist chinese in the game but you don't see a lot of racism or homophobia in 2077 or after from what I see. I could not care less if fallout has lgbt things but why they cant do it so that it fits the lore?? Like they had to choose the faction with harsh military quotas that beat their recruits, a faction that is basically under a military junta. stop pushing you political views on shows movies and games, this show isn't woke or conservative it's just a show in the fallout universe for fans to enjoy, there is no deep political messaging in this, the only message we get from fallout is that war never changes and nothing else, just because there is a non binary actor it doesn't mean this show is pushing any propoganda, (even if you think it's good pushing political views down to other throats, it isn't, and that doesn't happen in this show) not saying that lgbtq people in fallout is bad, just saying that deep political messaging in shows is annoying, no matter message, but i'm glad it didn't happen in this one.

I get wanting representation, but does the ultra-conservative, 1950's culturally influenced, military junta that refuses to recognize ghouls or androids or sapient mutants as people, really seem like the kind of group that would respect people's pronouns? We saw that they barely treat their own lower ranked members as people. Don't call it woke. That word is internet poison at this point. Fallout has always been robustly diverse, or a truly open-ended RPG, hell even tolerant would do. It's unlikely anyone has played as much Fallout as me. Last count close to 10,000 hours in the games over 30 years. I love all the new fans. I don't want to be a gate keeper. But I can say with confidence I do not want the Andrew Tate and the Fresh and Fit mob of ass hats around. Which when the word woke gets used, those idiots come around like flies to a pile of dog shit.
