Camera - reolink.com/product/reolink-go-ranger-pt/?aff=359
Explore the great outdoors and capture amazing wildlife footage with the Reolink Go Ranger PT 4K 4G Camera! 🏞️🦌
In this video, I unbox and set up this rugged, solar-powered trail camera to test its capabilities in the beautiful Scottish Highlands. With 4K video, 360° pan/tilt, animal detection AI, and 4G/LTE connectivity, the Go Ranger PT promises to deliver crisp footage of elusive forest creatures.
Over several nights, I place the camouflaged camera in different remote locations around my property, from wooded trails to open clearings. Will I be able to spot red deer, pine martens, foxes, and other Highland wildlife?
I'll share my experiences using the camera's intuitive app to monitor the battery and solar panel status, review motion alerts, and access the live view remotely. You'll get to see sample clips of any animals I'm able to capture in glorious 4K quality.
I'll also provide an honest review of the Go Ranger PT's key features, pros and cons, and overall value compared to other wildlife/trail cameras on the market.
If you're an outdoor enthusiast, nature lover, or just looking for a unique way to monitor your property, this video will give you an in-depth look at the Reolink Go Ranger PT 4G Wildlife Camera!

    STEP UP TRANSFORMER THEN STEP DOWN TRANSFORMER Two tiny transformers step voltage up to maybe 600 or 1000 volts then step it back down The wire needed would be tiny! Lots of old telephone wire that goes from pole to pole is copper plated steel wire Used its almost free because of no recycle value! Its also very tough you would not need transformers for only 20 watts But you could use transformers to step up then down to push way more watts if latter you ever needed to

    You're learning but the road is long ;) bits and bytes are the same it's not a speed, a speed is always accompanied by time ;) kBps (kilo Byte per second), MBps (Mega Byte per second), Mbps (Mega bit per second) *bit is factor 8. Storage is MB (Mega Bytes), GB (Giga Bytes), TB (Terra Bytes). Think about when you drive (probably in Miles so). You have driven 100 miles but the speed was 10 miles per hour (as an example). ;)

    Does PT mean point and tilt? Can you ask the camera to track animals when detected movement? How much sound does the camera make?

    • @offgridscotland
      @offgridscotland Před 18 hodinami

      That sounds about right. I dont think it does it automatically which would be amazing if it did. The sound is really minimal and I dont think any animal would hear it. When it moves which you have to do manually it is also really quiet but not silent so if something was directly under it the camera would startle the animal but I dont think it would notice if it was a few meters away.

  • @HubbHubbs

    You need to adjust the 'pre event' if this camera allows, as otherwise all your clips are the back of an animal just about to walk out of the scene. To get pre event it needs to be writing to the card all the time, then constantly deleting it, if theres a motion event it wont delete the clip from before the event, sort of like a dash cam when you press the button. If it doesnt have pre event just chuck it in the bin

  • @awo1fman
    @awo1fman Před 3 dny

    The motion capture seems to be lacking. It should do like dash cams and continually record but only save the clips that include trigger events plus one before and one after. That way you can save the whole event, not just the end. Waiting until after you've decided there's something to record means you will ALWAYS miss the best or most crucial part of the event. With traditional wildlife cams that didn't have solar panels you had to strictly minimise power usage, but one with a solar panel should have the power system optimized to fit the requirements of the camera in winter, shade and cloudy days. Doing it backwards and making the camera optimized for an inadequate power system makes the power system - and the camera - pointless. But most of those older type cameras did a much better job than this one of catching the interesting part, even without the benefit of continual recording. But the bottom line is that this camera can't have very well designed capture algorithms. It's far better for something like this to have a bunch of recordings of nothing than to have a few recordings of ALMOST something. It needs to err on the side of too much rather than not enough. I would be extremely frustrated only capturing the very end of events. So much so that I would rather be without it entirely.

    • @offgridscotland
      @offgridscotland Před 18 hodinami

      Yea I was really hoping to get them at the beginning as that was likely the best bit. Someone else mentioned there might be a setting I could change to adjust the record settings.

    There is new armoured cable called EV ultra. This is 4mm or 6mm (or larger) 3 core armoured cable which has a cat 5/6 cable as a fourth core. This cable would allow you to run power and ethernet in one cable as well as manage the router settings remotely by logging in to the router from the far end. This would also give you power - allowing a local light etc (you could put a waterproof consumer unit in the enclosure

    OP YOU KNOW IM NOT ALWAYS SO NEGATIVE BUT I'd be doubtful ,if I bought anything with that design , and it's purpose for outdoor use . The strap ,for one ,in an area that gets a diverse range of weather ... how long before that strap is eaten by the outdoor elements , No not creatures . How durable is the camera to the elements ... water ingress, uv breaking down the plastic The fact it also is subscription based , From just looking at design and what the website advertising . And seeing the quality of image caught , that something is quite iffy about this product . Dont believe me , check out dash cam comparison videos . They all claim (anything with cameras) they hype them up ... These look and most likely are disposable products , meaning theyll last possibly 6 months to 2 yrs . The image shown during daylight , when camera pans ,is comparable to a security camera that cost 20 uk pounds . Dont defend by saying its change in amount of light entering lense etc .. It is exactly that , one slight snag , its using software to adjust picture , which is what is causing it to delay process. And like chap says 200 quid , nah , dont convince me to buy ....might light a ciggarette with that note and get better payback. What with seeing device ,its image quality , its design and fixing points ...my gained knowledge of cameras . Plus I owned a £20 wireless security camera , no sub , with night vision and same pivot design .. and the quality was same as ... don't get ripped off .. Talking of wether we get ripped off as a consumer ... check out the story of Amstrad , how he made ,money by selling cheap versions of quality audio units , with same size shells and lots and lots of empty room !!! Or how about Tesla cars and all their faults in panels matching etc. And lack of faith in companies producing quality product for money paid ... and the largest alarm bell you could hear ringing , its a subscription service ... Dont be mugs folks , check out reviews on dash cans , I say this as they have same type of features . . To be fair ,you could get wired cameras made for outdoors , with a 300ft cable . You have power outdoors you could tap into. You could use cheap water line pvc to house cables ,to protect from rodents ,and wires would ve easy to extend ... Plus ,youd be talking 40 quid compared to 200 ,plus a sub .

  • @hunglikeadonkeybutnotassmelly

    I dont use reolink But I am a commercial cctv installer. You may find in the menu a pre and post alarm buffer. Say 5 second pre alarm footage and 10 second post alarm. You may also be able to adjust the detection area size and sensitivity. trial and error setting that part up to be reliable.

      @@offgridscotland 0dBm is the equivalent of a directly connected signal of 1mW or 1/1000 of a watt. -3dBm is 0.5 of a milliwatt . Every negative increase of 3dBm ,(e.g. -3 to -6 or -6 to -9 etc) represents a 50 percent reduction in received signal. So by the time you are around -100 to -120 they are VERY teeny tiny signals. If you were to hold your mobile phone up against the antenna socket on the transmitter at the foot of the mobile operator mast I would expect to see about -45dBm which in practical terms is a pretty chunky signal

How do you cope day to day!?!?!? 😂 I'm sure Reolink will be non to pleased that you specifically criticised the strap design problem which isn't a problem ! #user error ! 😂

      Then the camera and solar panel would have to be mounted on the same trunk/branch you nuffy! You don’t want the camera pointing at the sun like the solar panel. Think before you comment, save yourself the embarrassment 😂

      @@aymenpedram5650I love that you think you'd have to have them pointing in the same direction ! It's like you don't have the mental capacity to comprehend simple solutions .. why if the camera is pointing wherever but not at the sun ! Would the solar panel not be able to be positioned on the same strap but however many degrees in whichever direction pointing at the Sun !? Your reply just makes no sense ! You're the embarrassment! 😂

      I am working on a really big project at the moment and have been doing a lot of research into lora zigbee APC220 and NRF24L01 so I am so grateful for the info in the comments because its making that project a lot easier

      @@offgridscotland I live in a northern England valley and when I go walking with the dog it's hard to stay connected at home. Meshtastic on a lillygo T-Deck as a portable and a home node is the solution I'm looking into to fix it. Like starlink is great for away at work but not for something niche.

    Interesting. I've got cameras but they're powered and monitored by Blue Iris software on a windows PC. Rock solid for security purposes. But for your purposes, the Reolink looks great. I suppose the questions are what the data cost is arising from having to use a SIM, whether the system can trace back a few seconds ahead of motion detection (so you can see the animal arrive), and what happens when the card gets full (does it record over the oldest recordings?). Thanks for sharing.

    • @offgridscotland
      @offgridscotland Před 18 hodinami

      Those are really good points. The sim is a pain but the next camera is wifi rather than cellular so at least it will be cheaper. I haddnt thought about the sim being a reason for the delayed capture

  • @elminster8149
    @elminster8149 Před 4 dny

    Be careful, that's a power pole, if it discharges to earth it will destroy your camera. Re catching the animals - you should be able to adjust the trigger delay for recording in the software somewhere.

      Great minds 360Pic, I wondered if the "stem" of the solar panel would drop through the longer strap so that the longer strap secured both. That birdsong was nice, nothing wrong with the audio quality!

    When you were saying caravan the last few videos I was thinking a camper van not what we call a mobile home in the US. When I buy some land in the next year or 2, I do not know if I want to buy a caravan as I build my more permanent home or build a small 10 x 10 house and just expand on it over the years.

    • @offgridscotland
      @offgridscotland Před 4 dny

      I would say building a small 10x10 house would be better at least then if your situation changes and you spend longer than you anticipated in it you would be a bit more comfortable than if you were in a caravan
