How to Tie the Swing Hitch - The Perfect Knot for Hanging a Swing
If you are looking for the right knot to hang a swing, then the ideal knot for that is the Swing Hitch. The advantage of using the Swing Hitch is that once it is pulled up tight and dressed smartly, it grips firmly and prevents the rope from chaffing as the swing is used.
*Ashley's Book of Knots:* "465. To make fast a swing: The accompanying hitch is recommended, as it stays in place and does not chafe against the crossbar or limb." It then goes on to say: "466. A better method is to splice the ends of rope to snap hooks or sister hooks. These can be easily unhooked from the eye bolts and stored in winter. With this treatment ropes may be made to last several seasons."

One question, I have some 4-strand rope and I've been trying to figure out a way to apply this to that just to see if it can be done. @@patriciaoneill5758 Works great in second hand rope that has had a life!! If you are using 10mm rope, you will need about 37 meters for a mat with 5 passes. Sometimes I get old rope from eBay, every now an then it is being sold dirt cheap as they just want rid of it. 😉 😉 😉

Ashley gives this knot as a ring hitch but is a bit vague as to it's use ,as the captain is the winch which winds in the ankor one wonders how it would be used.

You can make a bowline and pull a bight through it .if one makes a clove hitch which is two half hitches and pull one half hitch through the other you get an overhand knot depending on which way you made your half hitches ,you have a wall or crown but you still have two half hitches but now they are on a single circuit and when one ties a bowline the first thing you do is tie a overhand knot and by using one end you finish your knot but as the overhand knot has two half hitches if you use the other end with the other half hitch you can make another bowline.

In the world of knotting, it is known as a Marlin Spike. I had this one specially made for me, if you search for custom Marlin Spike or custom spikes, you should be able to find a maker near you.
