I can't recall if i asked you this on another video but I have just purchased a 1953 80" (2lt) and will likely be doing up to keep. My question is what drive train are you running re motor , gearbox (standard, overdrive or reconfigured gearing?) and diffs allowing for better cruising speed and power (by degrees 😆) for light off-road? thanks again and looking forward to some updates when time permits and schedule allows. Adam
From 1974 to 1984 when I first saw the Defender 110 replacing them Ghana
Finally a series one driven properly
boy I would have pissed many times in my pants going over those courses, wow! great work you guys. I am falling in love with the series 1 rover, it was the defender at first and then quickly the series 3 and now the series 1 is my fav. simple, shorter, very narrow body trim which gives it the most utilitarian look out of the rest of the series and defender.
One of the few things that are truly a source of pride in British manufacturing. A gorgeous car still doing its thing and showing young pups how it’s done. Beautiful 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Daddy must have plenty money.
I bought and have built my 2a all out of my own pocket, earnt every penny spent on it. Dads 80 was built ages ago when prices weren’t so ridiculous. But he too has worked hard for it.
Excelente
Fantastic update, please keep them coming
Looking good and sounding good. Hope to get mine started soon
Excellent!
Hooray!!! The first launch has taken place! Why don't you paint the wheels the same color as the body? Who is this gray-haired man who helped you!?
Thank you! I had considered it, just thought I prefer limestone wheels, will work with the roof. He’s the fountain of knowledge that’s my dad🤣
@@retroeighty5319 Roof match! Is your roof tented or hard? Soon you will open the season and you will already be on 2 cars! Congratulations!
I’ve got a hardtop for the 2a. Hopefully have it ‘done’ for late summer. Works well alongside dads 80”
Well done mate! Looking good. The motor sounds sweet too and sweeter soon after a tickle up. I hope the wheels and tyres look as good. Cheers. 👍🏻🙏🦘
Thank you, pleased with it. Looking forward to getting the wheels and tyres on
Looking good 👍👍👍 Get an SU carb on it. Much nicer. Is that an electronic distributor? Makes a world of difference ❤
Thank you. Haven’t got an electronic distributor. Will look into an SU carb but for now just sort out the old Zenith and maybe look for a future upgrade.
Hello friend.. I congratulate you on a beautiful project... which part of the world are you from?.. I am also in the process of restoring my LR series 3... I am writing to exchange ideas... and some questions that I have... about some spare parts... greetings... from America... I await your response... yes Do you have any other social network to exchange photos ..
Thank you. I’m from the UK. Lots of the parts I buy are from eBay or FB groups etc. Other useful websites include PAblanchards or Paddocks spares. JohnRichardsSurplus is just down the road from me. Be sure to follow the Insta page @barrelsided
Ben! Why didn't you do anti-corrosion under the car?
I stripped the tub right back and painted it. If I ever go off road it’ll be cleaned properly and regularly, so it shouldn’t get chance to be like it was with years and years of grit and dirt building up.
Ben hi! Good job, glad you're working on the car!!!
Thank you!
Looks fantastic, keep on keeping on
Thank you very much.
Slow and steady mate. You did a great job on the tub too! 👍🏻🙏🦘
Thank you!
Coming along nicely Ben
Thank you
Top work Ben
Cheers sir
Good work 👍👍👍
Thank you, Rob
Stunning trip with some lovely series I's and some stunning camera work too. Great work.
If you run into trouble with the servo try a "90" one.
Just finding these vids dropping in to my CZcams box. Great work on the S1. It’s good to see young LR enthusiasts continuing to maintain the vehicles. 👍🏻🙏🦘
Thank you!
The trailer has not been seen in 2 years! 🙈😂👍🏻🙏🦘
You’ll be pleased to know it was out for a weekend trialing in the summer. 👍🏼
@@retroeighty5319 I AM pleased to know that it’s been trialling or is that trailing? Haha.
Come to Australia and you can drive my 2002 auto Discovery all over. 👍🏻🙏🦘
Hi Ben. About the sump bolts. Any good specialised bolt shop could supply the bolts if you take in the original one. For future vids could you keep the music a bit lower please or preferably have none. Good call on not swapping the tyres. Lol. Love your work. Cheers. 👍🏻🙏🦘 P.S. How did you fit into your jeans? 🤔🙈💪
I’ll give that a go, thank you. I’ll try to do that, always find when using multiple cameras the edit is tricky with the audio so this is useful to know. 👍🏼
You may not want to use that military fan? They are heavy and there could be clearance issues. They also take more power to turn.
Yes, I changed it for a standard fan for those reasons. I also heard they’re louder too.
Put your collar down
Kept the sun off my neck.
Nice video - keep it up! Probably too late to save you messing with the top bearing on the steering column, but you'll find that the play evaporates when you do final assembly. The bearings are a crap design and the new ones are poorly made (they tend to distort when you drive them in to the column), but the play in it will go when you torque up the steering wheel nut.
Thank you. This is not too late to know. Might be putting a S2 box in so will have it to do potentially.
Very enjoyable. Subbed.
Much prefer seeing these driveway builds. I'm going to catchup on episodes 1-3 and look forward to seeing how the 2a build progresses - keep up the great work.
Thank you. Definitely more to come.
Probably a bit late to mention it now but euro car parts sell normfest spray cans. They spray better than any other aerosol paint I have found and cover realy well. All the notmfest spray paints and grease are excellent value. The electric contact cleaner is also good at its job on old ecectrics If you ask I’m sure they will give trade discounts but also online ordering is normally good prices.
Definitely not too late at all. I’ll have to have a look, good paint is definitely worth getting to do a proper job.
I’m always keen to see your progress, home built on a modest budget makes a perfect counterpoint to Retropower restomods. Stick with it, you inspire me with mine
Thank you. Trying to do things right where I can, but not go over the top.
Great vid! Are there generally more lanes open to vehicles in Wales than in England or Scotland?
Thank you. I’m not terribly sure, we go to Wales because it’s relatively close and there’s good driving. But there’s plenty of lanes everywhere. An app called Trailwise is good, failing that, OS maps show them.
Great Video!, can I get the name of the first song??
Thank you! The first song is called ‘Cumbria City’. It’s from the CZcams audio library.
Brilliant job, been a pleasure to do the bulkhead, can’t wait to see it progress.
Nice work Ben. Looking good.
Nice one 😎😎
Fatastic effort Ben, awaits further updates
Good job, Ben! Keep up the good work!
Looks like the most fun ! A S1 in beautiful North Wales , I have a 1955 & am going to follow suit . Thanks for the inspiration. Garie
Superb!
Forgot to say a 1954 S1 was the 1st vehicle I ever "drove" aged 8 , had to stand on clutch I do remember ! It was my parents SWB recovery vehicle , unfortunately I'm currently unable to trace it ! We had it until 1980. Take care & more vids please Ben ! Garie ('55 S1)
My dad also has a series one, and I too are looking at an 88" SII to resto-mod into my own legacy. Great work Ben!
Cool wheels x
Good green-laning but we have to reject that small replacement steering wheel which must be in conjunction with fitting a power steering unit. Takes all the originality out of the Series 1 driving experience.
No power steering
Looking good well done
Thank you.
Is this the 2nd Landy in your family? This will be your car right now!?
This is the second in the family at the moment. My first.
