Hi, I am passionate about sharing the beautiful music of the organ with the world.
Many of the uploads on my channel come from 78rpm records, (many of them approaching 100 years old) which require an extensive cleaning process to restore their quality. It involves delicately removing dust and debris from the fragile vinyl surfaces, taking great care not to damage them in the process. I also invest significant amounts of time and effort in digitally cleaning the recordings. This involves reducing background noise, eliminating pops and crackles, and enhancing the overall sound quality. It's a meticulous and time-consuming task, but it is all worth it when I am able to present these gems from the past to you.
Preserving these recordings is of great importance, as I want future generations to be able to enjoy and appreciate the artistry of these organ performances and learn from them.

Can any one tell me , when the beautiful glamorous Jane Mansfield came to switch the ilumanation lights on in Blackpool , could be 19 56 ??
@@user-fp3hb1yl3p Reg Dixon turned them on in 1956, Jane Mansfield was 1959.
Wow!!! ❤🎉
I have met Phil a few times years ago and he really is a nice guy very genuine. He is still the very best in the world and a pure master of the Mighty Wurlitzer. I have always looked up to him and always will.
The real Dr. Phibes.
@@josdesouza just a real musician who provided the musical background for courting couples as they twirled their way around the dance floor, and an entertainer for those who were watching on the sidelines.
A piece new to me.
Quite well known in theatre organ circles, at least in the UK. Ketelby's compositions were very popular for quite a time.
Thanks for sharing this. Very nice
Good medley, but, like you, I do much prefer Regal Zonophone sound!
Yes, the distant sound on the Colombia discs doesn't have the same impact. It would be a very different outcome today though and I can hear what they were trying for.
My wife and I had our honeymoon in Norfolk, and Robert played a dedication for my wife!
One of the best pieces of classical music by J.S Bach.
Beautifully played by Reg
Been hearing "Beside the Seaside" a whole lot lately. I just can't get away from English music :-"
Not that I'm trying to. <--- Erstwhile Black Sabbath tribute band singer
It's always nice to hear, especially on TV and Radio etc. We're so lucky to have an instrument with a sound that is culturally embedded in the fabric of not just England, but the whole of the UK. It shows that Reg Dixons contribution to the organ is still relevant, and still remembered after almost 4 decades since his passing.
They don't write music like that these days 😔😭
They most certainly don't. Very much of a different time.
Yikes! This reminds me that there is a fully functional theater organ about thirty miles away, housed in a middle school it is "Open" to the public on a regular basis, and amateurs are welcome to play it (I'm not an amateur and was a working musician for 45 years). Obviously I must go and hear it. Then get my courage up and play it.
I am watching this in 2024. Is this fine organist still performing?
Yes, you can still catch him in concert twice a day at the Thursford collection and at various venues around the UK.
Have been a big fan of theater pipe organ music for 50 years. Worked in a Chicago roller rink for 18.5 years and listened to the pipe organ 5 nights a week.
If you are new to this channel the blogger has an outstanding collection of Reginald Dixon on the organ as well as other organists. It is truly a unique genre of music and we are so lucky to be able to partake of it.
How very nice of you to say so. Thank you.
I have a few tracks of Tony Tahlman at the one of the rinks. Some fantastic stuff there and not too dissimilar a style to what was happening in Blackpool when playing for dancing.
Wow. Thanks for posting. I didn't know there were any films of Reg playing.
I like the part at 2:27 where everything starts going crazy, meanwhile the piano is desperately trying to keep the rhythm together!😂
The piano is attached to the organ, so it's all part of the same instrument.
@@OrganMusicYT oh I know that. That's just my way of interpreting the music.
demolished to make room for a post office...and today "they" lament the decision. "a day late and a dollar short", eh?
Always the way of it. World is full of complete and utter idiots.
❤❤❤
I remember Koo Koo Waltz & Button and Bowls from my younger organ days, but never learned them. Love the W Theatre Organs..
Anyone know the title of this tune .?
Titles are in the video description :)
Could’ve been impossible, but nope!
"A Sheer Delight"!
Yay! Playing catchup on my CZcams favourites and here it is - one of the best made theatre organ films out there. Great to see it again. Thanks for this and all you do for the theatre organ world👍
Organ playing at its best!!
0:01tocatta intro 0:37 tocatta theme 2:42 fuga theme
Wow, I've never heard "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" played like this! I've always thought of it as a dreamy ballad. Nevertheless, Reg did a terrific job with it. "Lovely to Look At" is also a great favorite of mine. Lastly, Regal gets a terrific sound. First class disc!
Trust Reg to add some zip! Regal Zonophone discs seem to be the best of his 30s era. What a shame that the sides he recorded with Rex weren't on Zonophone, the quality of RZ is miles better.
Fine medley and recording on this one!
Another one that come through pretty fine which always helps. Totally bucks the trend of what people think the "Blackpool" style is.
The phrasing and choice of registration is perfectly chosen for the music of Cole Porter. A lovely performance.
Furchtbarer Sound 😢😢
Thats VHS for you, the sound quality was never all that great. I did spend a some time doing my best to improve it, but you can only do so much with a 35 year old VHS tape.
Diese Orgel klingt schrecklich 😢😢
Actually its one of the finest theatre organs ever built, and it's Wurlitzers most successful installation having been played every day since it was installed in 1935. Its probably the most recorded pipe organ in the world, thousands of recordings have been made on it, countless thousands of broadcasts have been made on it too. Its sound has become synonymous with the British seaside, and it is a priceless cultural and musical icon. Try listening to a modern recording of it.
Absolutely brilliantly played 😉 thankyou in 2024 😀.
Personally I think the bloke is overrated.
Out of the thousands of comments and millions of views, and countless conversations with some of the finest organists in the world over the years, you are the first to say anything like that to me. You must be very difficult to please.
Great quality for 89-year old recording.
Regal Zonophone discs are often very good quality, I've found. The material doesn't seem to have suffered from wear as much as some of the other labels.
a dear friend, miss him
One of his early 'hit' compilations! And a great selection! Who was that singing?🥰👍
As I understand it, Tom Barrett was the vocalist for this session (14th June 1933)
Wow! That man is literally 'part of the machine'! Brilliant!
A brilliant combination of style, vision and music. Michael Parkinson
Playing the Hammond organ the way it should be played ,absolutely brilliant
I first heard Reginald Dixon 1951 met first time 1954 in 1968 did two shows Kingston-on-Thames and Argyle St Glasgow I was with Conn organ Fred Woods at Bolton we did a short duet at those venues also the Odeon Bolton with Reginald Dixon Charles Smitton and my self Golden memories
Super memories that will last a lifetime. What an honour!

Happy memories we had this record
Uploaded with the kind permission of Phil Kelsall - This recording holds a significant place in theatre organ history as it was the first to be released on VHS format. Phil Kelsall was a fresh face in the theatre organ scene at the time, having just started at the Tower Ballroom five years before Ernest Broadbent's retirement. I have done my best to restore the recording, which dates from 1982, using the software available to me. Considering the age of the tape (which is older than myself) I think it has turned out not too badly. The transfer to the digital format has been made possible by @FraserGartshore and I thank him for making it possible. I hope you enjoy this piece of nostalgia and fun, which is certainly a product of its time and runs for 30 minutes. 00:00 - I Do Like to be Beside the Seaside 00:40 - Tiger Rag 05:06 - Cavatina 11:16 - The St Bernards Waltz 12:20 - Quickstep - Ma, She's Making Eyes at Me / Whispering / Don't Dilly Dally on the Way / The Black and White Rag 16:14 - The Birdy Dance 17:55 - Chattanooga Choo Choo 21:44 - Memory (From Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats") 26:08 - 12th Street Rag

Throughout his career, he has achieved remarkable milestones in the theatre organ scene. Notably, he was the first theatre organist to release a concert on VHS and has since produced an impressive discography of over 70 albums, approximately 20 VHS tapes, and several DVDs. In recognition of his invaluable contributions to the music industry, he was honoured with the prestigious Gold Badge Award by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors in 1993. It is worth mentioning that this award has also been bestowed upon esteemed individuals such as Dame Shirley Bassey, Bonnie Tyler, and Jools Holland. Furthermore, Phil Kelsall holds the distinction of being the sole theatre organist in to have received a platinum award for recording sales. To this day, he remains the only theatre organist to have secured a place in an album chart. In July 2001, he was positioned at No.4 on the classical albums charts, surpassing renowned artists such as John Williams and Andrea Bocelli. His album, “The Organist Entertains” remained in the top 20 for an impressive 12 weeks and in the top 100 for 14 weeks. In recognition of his contributions, Phil Kelsall was honoured with an MBE in the Queens Honours list in 2010. His music has also appeared on various television shows, including "Strictly Come Dancing," "Songs of Praise," and "Coronation Street". Additionally, he has been featured in television adverts and radio shows such as "The Organist Entertains", "Friday Night is Music Night", and the long-standing BBC radio series "The Archers". Beside all his achievements at the Tower Ballroom, its worth noting that Phil Kelsall has also been an integral part of the famous Thursford Collections annual Christmas Show for over four decades.
Amazing, I got dizzy looking at the keys. Kay macabe move over.
Robert is quite the talent, superb musician with dozens of albums to his name and a long career.
😮😮
What a delightful and joyful rendition of Albert Ketèlbey's IN A PERSIAN MARKET.
Reg was always fun with orchestral arrangements, and the Wurlitzer comes across very nicely in this side too.
This guy played the dam busters for me years ago when I was younger he’s really good
What an arrangement of a great piece.
I remember when this channel used to include organists other than just Reginald Dixon lol
It still does. Lately, I have uploaded recordings by Phil Kelsall, Horace Finch, Nicholas Martin, and Len Rawle. Soon, I will be uploading recordings by Reginald Foort and Quentin Maclean. However, the challenge lies in the extensive catalogue of 78rpms by Reg Dixon. It consists of 600 sides, totalling approximately 30 hours of music. If I were to restore and upload them at a rate of one per week, it would take me 11 years to complete the task. Therefore, I have decided to increase the pace to an average of two uploads per week, allowing me to progress more efficiently.
