I let the Sun hit my Quest 2 lens for 1 half of a Second while taking it off and it burned annoying permanently visible spots on my Screens. Had to get a new one. I NEVER let the Sun come even close to my Lenses on my Quest ³!

I can tell you from the fpv drone world, we use headsets with similar lenses all the time in the sun and dont really worry about it. Even with constantly taking it on and off in the sun for a long time it doesnt break it. Im sure it would be a problem if you left the lenses in direct sunlight for an extended period of time though.

I remember playing blade and sorcery nomad for the first time with my quest 3 in broad daylight. The scan wouldn't work, but i could draw my own boundary and made it as large as possible ( about a 30 foot perimeter) . That was the most fun I've ever had in VR. Forget the cramped space indoors, there is nothing like physically running 10 feet at an enemy in a VR game, with zero chance of hitting anything because you still had a lot of room to spare!

The front cameras is focusing on a sensor that can be damaged by direct sunlight/heat, mostly this is for they have a filter that remove some red light at the near-IR spectrum, this filter can be plastic and deform a bit so it will create a discoloration. For my this happened on a camera that I had up to make a timelapse and the sun came into frame, but then my camera was not and the heat was concentrated on one spot for a longer time 20 to 30 seconds, but if you have it on the head, move and mostly look a bit down/normally it should not destroy the lens. You can test this by use a magnifying glass, if you hold it still with a concentrated beam you can born things, but if you always move the focus point it will not have time to build up heat to burn the paper. I would be more worried for dust and pollen from trees when use it outside, and then rain that sometime can come a bit randomly here in Sweden near the coastline.

It looks like the game saves a full color replay, not just a ghost. I say that because that driving looks very familiar.

I thought the danger of sun damage from the pancake lenses was far less likely than fresnel lenses to the point it isn't that big of an issue.

did you have a cover for the lenses? i wouldn't put a quest 3 outside without covering the internal lenses so you don't destroy the displays inside.
