Incredible view and a lovely ride.
Those views! Thanks for sharing what a location 😊
cool
You guys hiked up with your bikes?
It was a mix. A decent chunk of it can be pedaled. The last 500M out the treeline is mostly a hike-a-bike.
Loved the footage thanks again, the beginning looked like you were on top of the world☁☁
Wow awesome video man i somehow stumbled onto this video and always knew McKinnon Flats was known for fly fishing and all but i did not know there was MTB trails. the great thing is i looked it up and e bikes are allowed to so i might try both my e bike and my analog full sus bike, hell maybe even my hardtail too. gonna check this place out soon in the really near future. thanks bud
Glad you enjoyed the video. Just like yourself I had no idea there were trails until last year. Your hardtail will be better suited because the singletrack is pretty tame overall. Enjoy and thanks for watching!
Hi do u have a gpx fike of this. Thanks
Here is a good route from Trailforks that covers these trails: www.trailforks.com/route/mckinnon-flats-infinity-loop/
❣
Also a fun time on a onewheel ;) takes longer though. good video :)
Wow that's gnarly! The main descent with all the rocks would be some work
@@sprungmass there are a few places where i walked for sure. On decent was 3 minutes of tailsliding whilw picking up speed lol
Always one of my favourite trails ! Great pace
Cheers. Funny enough I fat biked it more this year than summer bike. Gotta get up there again.
@@sprungmass haha I’ll follow you down. Will be good to try and chase your race speed !
Such a beautiful location, really enjoyed the footage thank you! Greetings from Australia 🙂
Thanks so much for watching! Glad you enjoyed it.
Damn good pace! I found myself leaning into the corners just watching this, lol. I've ridden Shaft twice, and the second time I had better trail knowledge, one extra shock, and a 60 pound emtb, and I was definitely faster the second time!
Cheers! I love this trail especially in the winter on a fat bike. Nice, with the e-bike you can probably get a lot more laps in as well. Enjoy!
I was waiting for this video. Thanks for sharing it. I won't be able to ride it, but I enjoyed watching it.😁
Thanks for watching! This place is pretty intense and I always come out as a better rider.
The 3K trail looked like a blast!
From the speed you're going looks like it's pretty steep!
Oh yeah most of these trails redefine my definition of steepness.
Have you found any of the pirate trails in the area?
Yes! The stuff over at wind tower is fun and unlike any of the sanctioned trails in the Canmore area.
@@sprungmass Feel free to dm, but is the Wind Tower accessible through High Line at the Parking spot, or? I ride lots of KH and Peaks, but this will be my first summer getting to know the actual freeride and dh trails in my backyard. I hit reclaimed and Riders pretty regularly too.
Reminds me of Colorado quite a bit. Just wish Alberta has more of this fast and flowy stuff . Also reminds me of Kamloops
I find Cloudline and the Canmore sanctioned trails are nice, flowy and XC. There is definitely more emphasis on big mountain steepness and it makes sense. I've also found some quality flowy riding in and around interior BC. Happy trails!
Thanks for the ride
Thanks for tuning in
I am moving to Calgary from Edmonton in a few months. While I’m going to miss the awesome river valley trails, I’m so excited to explore Calgary to Banff! It would be great if you could put links to trail forks in your descriptions… you know, help a brother out! Also, any good bike clubs in Calgary?
Hey there! Excited for you that you are moving closer to the mountains. I use trail forks trail names in all my videos so if you search it up you will find them. Check out the Shred Collective group. We are a non-profit organization and free to join. I am one of the ride leaders there. Give me a shout on Instagram: "_sprungmass" if you have any questions. See you out here soon!
Love seeing videos of trails so close to home! Keep them coming and ride safe!
Thank you for tuning in! I plan on uploading a more this year.
Is this 10K trail?
Nope this is an unmarked trail from the summit. Opposite side of Dead Dog.
are you still on the smuggler?
I actually ended up selling the frame and getting a Stumpjumper (non-evo)
@@sprungmasswhat didn’t you like about the smuggler?
@@Orphansmash I found it a little noisy and but too good on the descents (if that is ever a complaint) It is a great bike and it rips but I was craving something more towards XC. Something more explosive on the climbs and more playful on the descents. The stumpjumper with flex stays and super short rear end fit the bill and it was less than half the price for the frame.
@@sprungmass yea thanks im on a ripmo currently and looking for something quicker on the climbs and flats but I do ride some pretty steep and chunky dh so I don’t want to give up all my downhill capabilities. The smuggler is way too expensive compared to other deals out right now.
Love to watch your videos 👌
Thanks so much! I love your videos too 😃
Super sick video, those conditions look great for winter time, ride on!!
Thanks a lot! Winter riding in Kananaskis is a dream come true.
I think your brakes were singing to the music! 😆
It's the Tauntaun's mating call ❤️
Nice! Way faster and smoother than the trails we took!
That's too bad :( hopefully there will be a redemption ride soon!
This was such a great day on the bikes!
Is that the Transition Smuggler? How did it do on the climbs and descending?
Yes that is the Transition Smuggler. I decided to sell it to get something a little more climbing focused i.e. Specialized Stumpjumper (non-evo). The Smuggler climbed really well with the lock switch but not with a sense of urgency. It was definitely in a league of it's own on the descents with that Fox Float X shock and horst link suspension design.
So good! Looks amazing. You've got those camera settings dialled 👌
Thanks! Means a lot coming from the Loam Ranger himself. Credit where it is due: Your GoPro11 essentials video was a great starting point.
sick!!
looks awesome! Do you think a 140mm hardtail would be good for this trail? I have a trek roscoe 7 with a fox 36 factory but I don't want to risk myself and the bike.
I've ridden it with a Bobcat Trail 4 and a Rocky Mountain Growler with a Fox 36 Rhythm up front.. The only issue I found was being 220lbs and riding the brakes a lot that the 140 rotors on the Bobcat overheated and would fade. The Growler has 180s and they are fine. The chunky, rooty, stuff is a challenge and you have to respect it. Initially it was off-putting but now we like it.
Hey Luis, sorry for the late reply. I think your Roscoe will be perfectly fine. Even a XC bike can make it down this trail. Have fun!

Incredible views up there!
Thanks Brendan. It was great seeing you yesterday!
What a view!
Sick.
Wow! Congratulations Soban! That's fantastic! You were really rippin' down those trails!
Thanks Brendan! Appreciate it. I am starting to get more comfortable on our local trails.
I'm happy for you. I have enjoyed the video. Congratulations 🎉
Thank you :)
These trails are going on my bucket list for sure, looks sick. What happened to the Smuggler!?
The experience is unreal and you definitely have to try them. Camera doesn't do justice but I've never ridden anything this steep. Smuggler is undergunned for this terrain so I took my Enduro.
Great job! Not so sure it's a super happy awesome fun trail though 😆 so chunky
Thanks! I guess compared to the trails around it haha
@@sprungmass So true. The trail builders like their double blacks.
How do you control your bike so well I would have ran off the trail in the first 30 seconds
Riding and racing XC MTB competitively definitely helped level up my cornering skills
Brake control and good technique. Time and experience + time riding. Canmore isn't really that difficult in terms of descents unless you're hitting the pirate trails. Everything else is kind of tame.
Rode Cloudline on Saturday with Shred. Great trail!
Yes! I loved every bit of it. Can't wait to go back for a proper shred. Hopefully one day they will cut a lower ridge trail to make this a loop.
@@sprungmass We came out on Guy Lafleur, so we made it a loop.
What a beautiful erotica! Thank you.😘
Great bro 😀👍
Hey there! Thanks for putting this together. I just built the same bike today and have a quick question about the spacers you used with the DUB bottom bracket. Did you use the 4.5 on the drive side? It looks like you used a 7.5 on the drive side and a 3 on the non-drive side. Do you remember? The top the gears are having trouble and I’m assuming it’s due to a spacer error on my part. Thanks for the help and love your videos!
Hi Kris, sorry for the late reply as CZcams does not notify me of new messages. On this 73mm shell frame and the new Transmission drivetrain, the drive side spacer is 7.5mm and non-drive side spacer is 3mm. This gets your the recommended 55mm chainline.
Those trails look like so much fun! I haven't ridden in Banff yet. Looks like I'll have to get out there this summer.
I think it is worth checking out. The main trails Star Wars and Top Notch are fairly short (5km) but there is plenty of scenic XC singletrack nearby to extend the ride and get most out of the visit.
Yikes! Some super scary exposure there!
Yes lots of exposure but we just have to trust the super grippy sandstone and hold the line 😅
You will get thousands of subscribers with content like this video. Great editing, very enjoyable. The more you put out like this , the subscribers will grow
Thank you very much! Greatly appreciated
Your audio and video quality is fantastic!
Thank you! The goal is to keep the AV quality high across all my content.
Yup I'm watching yet again another of the things that I can't buy.
Stick to normal AXS Eagle X01 or XX1 if you want fast shifting, this Sram system only changes gear when cassette is in the correct position, this can make gear changes laggy as hell, i used the new XX for 3 days before taking it off again.
I have to agree! I will definitely be making a video to explain this difference between the old and new drivetrains. It is annoying how you can't quickly go up gears for a descent after finishing a climb in a low gear. If you press the controller a couple of times, it will keep shifting even if you done clicking. It is super smooth and all but it looks like SRAM is dictating when you want to shift. Maybe a firmware update with help.
@@sprungmass I hope an update might help but not hopeful it can make a big improvement, i hope Sram can prove me wrong.
