Great shot! That kind of technical is called at the refs digression depending on the circumstances. Had the players stayed on the bench, no call; if they came part way on to the court, warning; but once you impede the progression of play, then it's a technical. Personally, I think he made the right call. That kind of stuff matters in any and every game. Especially when it's a title game. Although I do understand that emotion can get the best of players. They can get so excited that they forget that the game isn't over yet. I work for a local tv station and they covered a high school football game. One team scored a field goal with only a few seconds remaining to take the lead and the majority of the team rushed the field. The coach tried to stop them, but you can't really stop 50 kids with just a few coaches. The officials called an unsportsmanlike conduct call that would be issued after the kick off. The kick off was a touchback and the other team had only one play; the classic rugby style play. They came within five yards of winning that game when they were back at their own 35. But, unfortunately one player wanted the glory and was tackled instead of sharing the ball. Now this wasn't the same outcome, obviously. But refs always need to be mindful of the rules, especially when the game is close... Unless you're Tim Donaghy. Then you can bet on games then officiate them to make yourself win.

Yeah, there wasn't contact. But from his angle there was. So it's hard to say "bad referee" when that's the angle he saw it at.
