Nobody was given a damn for Kampuchea in cold war (Cambodia's ancient name is Kampuchea derived from the Sanskrit word 'Kambuja' meaning 'The Land of Peace & Prosperity'). Khmer rouge was basicly ultra-maoist (extreme left fraction of Marxsism-Leninsm) They také advantage on situation after political tensions in Cambodia at 1970s. They sold all bannas and rice to buy weapon from China. Pol Pot just threat to Vietnam, but he knewed he can't beat themx so he bluffe until point where his regime was threatned.
USA did not support the Pol Pot regime in the UN Security Council.
