The UK has increasingly less to offer to the EU for the following reasons: - dismantling of the financial sector and moving it back to the mainland. - increasing military spending within the EU makes the UK's contribution less relevant. - regulatory divergence - GDP per capita which lacks growth compared to the EU GDP per capita. In simple words the UK is getting poorer compared to the EU. The UK is drifting away and has no leverage to cherry pick again.

What went wrong with Brexit is that it was a phenomenally stupid thing for the UK to do.

Nothing, thanks to the democratic majority of the UK voted for sovereignty, independence from a corrupt, anti democratic, unaccountable, declining, protectionist, mafioso organisation run by a bunch of childish, vindictive, self serving, gravy train riding, free loading parasites. Leaving was about self governance, empowering the UK to make its own decisions.
