Why the 996 Had to Happen and How It Saved Porsche From Financial Ruin | The Hated 911 Part 2

There are several reasons why the Porsche 996 is the least-desirable 911, including the head lights, the interior, the shared components and the IMS bearing, with its tendency to fail causing catastrophic engine failure. But the most important reason is also why many Porsche fans proclaimed that "Porsche had lost its soul" and that was the monumental move from air-cooled to water-cooled engine ...

When Porsche introduced the fifth generation of its flagship sports car at the International Motor Show Frankfurt in September of 1997, it instantly drew criticism from its loyal fan base. Although automotive journalists at the time wrote favorably of the car, the Porsche base was outraged, and with fair reason. The 996 was a massive departure from previous 911s, and not just in terms of exteri...

You just destroyed a classic with a battery 🪫
why does your wheels or hub caps whitewall tires look out of round when you ride down the road? Details? Perfection ?
this isnt a ford mustang fastback, it's a "FORD MUSTANG FASTBACK BODY".. but all stuff was removed and replaced with modern crap.. basically its a bodykit
Is ozone come from teslas
This is not a '51 Merc....it is a '49 OR it has a '49 dashboard transplant. It is easier to change the rear fenders than to switch dashboards. An easy switch is the exchange of taillights for the three segment Lincoln lights. I know, I had a '49 4-door, modified suspension front and rear, Caddy rear air shocks to level for extra rear loading in the trunk or rear seat (for the drive-in.)
ALSO.....the hood doesn't have the '51 lip (when you remove the chrome trim at the bottom edge) . This is a '49 with '51 rear fender grafts and '54 Merc taillights. The alternate is the Packard Clipper teardrop flare. The vent windows are also removed here. I kept mine front and rear for better ventilation in the rain.
Bad to the bone!! Keep it up and keep on improving this monster mustang 😊
Damn. That's a badass car! Absolutely a stunner!
The halo proved itself in the very first season it was introduced, saving Charles Leclerc's life at Spa. Power is right, you feel naked without it. Seeing cars without it makes me question the sanity of the guys who raced them. You never know something is good or not until you try it for yourself. Since its introduction it has proved itself time and time again, with Leclerc, with Zhou and most spectacularly with Grosjean. All other systems failed in that crash and even the safety cell ruptured. He'd be decapitated without it but he lives to race and his wife and kids aren't missing a loving husband and father. I wish we had well before its introduction, God knows how many lives would be saved. The thrill of the sport is one thing but the price that a mourning family may have to pay for the thrill of the spectators sitting comfortably in their living rooms is just not right
Nice ride
Why not do this conversion to a 1984 Buick LeSabre? Nobody would care! Instead, they just have to F up a classic Mustang.
Enough to power a small city block - Sir , please recheck your numbers, might be a slight exaggeration, or poetic license.
Totally lost me when you kept the drivetrain and rear end the most inefficient way to convert a car there should've been a motor in the front and a motor in the back with four CV axles just like electric cars are supposed to be made. Of course the video is six years old so perhaps they fixed it by now…
Wild
Hey that looks like my car!
A piece of American power house Engineering, build in London England
I fell in love with the 51 Mercury ever since I first saw it 2yrs ago
In 1962 I bought a '64.5 mustang convertable from my neighbor. It was a fun car.
Thanks for this indepth look into how the indycar screen came about!
Elon musk has left the chat
Tony did a great job telling his car story and what makes for a proper chopped Mercury custom. I was really disappointed that the interior was skipped. Today I saw another beautiful Mercury custom. The body and paint were perfect and all the modern mechanical upgrades were tastefully done. the interior was another story. With the brief look and no explanation it looks like the interior was tastefully done. What makes for a good custom/restomod upgrades are modern gages/radios ect that have a vintage look. Years ago I saw a Mercury lead sled that had an amazing interior done with a 65 Thunderbird rear seat. I can't remember if it included front buckets. I've always loved the look of the 64-66 curved rear seat.
As impressive as this is.. its 1,000% sacrilege to turn a muscle/hot rod into an EV. Yeah.. it'll do a burnout, and it's quick as Hell. But taking out the monster that makes noise ??!! Sorry, I would NEVER do it
Oh god, Jesus Christ that aeroscreen is beyond ugly 🤢🤮
Way too much mindless talk. Not a ‘51 so why say it is? Probably no lead either. Nice car, don’t think much of the presentation.
I love that at the drag strip all the REAL car guys thought it was great. There’s people who truly love cars and there’s people who love to talk about cars like they know more than the next guy. They crap on this or that brand (Ford v Chevy v Dodge etc) and scream the praises to their car god as they cast insults in forums to other fake car guys. If you insult any car make or drivetrain you’re not a car guy. You’re just an opinion with an asshole. Oops, I meant an asshole with an opinion…
It’s funny, and sad, to hear all the haters bitch about electric cars and even restomodding old cars to electric. Americans love to innovate on cars. Electric isn’t evil. It’s not some left wing liberal conspiracy. It’s just a new cool way to make a car go faster. Personally I love that people take these beautiful classic cars, these iconic shapes, and update them. WHY NOT?!?!
*Let the Sunshine In...*
Too bad you chose this car to destroy. #wasaclassicbadass
I would love even a 600hp ev conversion for my 67 ford galaxies, the thing is big and heavy, and although the 390 is decent it needs a rebuild. I could build it to a 445 but then it would be expensive to drive around town in. Yeah it wouldn't sound as cool with an ev motor, but at least it would make more power and be cheaper to drive.
Don't like it. No rumble, no engine noise. No longer a muscle car.
Can’t stand the graphics on the side
I just wanna lick em
Sure it’s different not as ugly as watching a driver get killed. I would rather have 9kg of titanium protecting me rather than $70 plexiglass. The same stuff the helmet visor is manufactured from.
And some people wonder why I have been a part of Silver State Classic Challenge events for over 30 years. My friend Tom Glass at the start of the video. Next to his Callaway Z06.
So stunning, diverse,, inclusive and brave 💯
This is one of the most pointless grouping of words I have seen in awhile. Tell George Soros I said hi....
@@honkylips69 I'll be sure to do that honkeylip
I Love, love, love the '68 mustang fastback. If I had to have an EV, this would be my first choice. All others be damned. And the black/lime green colors are Definitely me. 💞🏁 I'm absolutely in love with this car.

electric is here gas engines junk
Hmm, 1.78 seconds 0-60. The Tesla Model S Plaid is supposed to do 1.99, but I think 2.2 or so is more realistic. But that's all-wheel-drive. I'd like to know how he can get 1.78 with normal-looking street radials on rear wheel drive. What kind of rear suspension, and how did he tune it so well?
Okay so how much and is that the best you can do for range
This is the kind of man who makes the decision to have his dog neutered on his own... I bet his wife argues for the dog... WHO THE HELL TAKES AN OLD MUSCLE CAR AND MAKES IT A BATTERY OPERATED TOY.... I'm glad you feel safe sitting next to a big battery shape volcano... I'm sticking to internal combustion gas powered as long as I can either until the last one blows up... I was going to say or until they ran out of gas everywhere but at the rate some people are choosing how we live day today we will be driving like The Flintstones sooner than later
HOLY SHIT
the man who built this is truly a GENIUS
