i worked just east of the cathedral, drove around grounds when it was a drive-in church. to me it always seemed like a self-glorificaton of schuler , especially as he kept expanding .

I watch one on facebook taken the day the fire started and this person literally flew into the fire as they were hitting it with hoses. As it flew away I could see the water dropping helicopter coming in from the northeast.

Many of the fires in So Cal are started by the homeless but somehow when the cause is investigated, it never gets repeated.

The Crystal Cathedral congregation needed a strong CEO outside of the Schuller family back in 70's and 80's. This Cathedral was not built safely. As the man said it's not up to current building codes. No air-conditioning and in Southern California and boy did the Hazel organ pay for that!! Numerous articles about how some of the organ pipes melted and birds nested in some of the big pipes.

People who are lamenting any changes to the Crystal Cathedral apparently don't understand that it was waiting to kill someone. The glass panes were becoming progressively less secure in their mountings. Someday, they would start falling off. If it happened when a congregation was in the building, it would have been likely to have at least seriously injured at least one person. If nothing had been done, the only responsible thing the County of Orange could do would be to condemn it and order its demolition. You may not like the way it's turned out, but at least the exterior has been preserved almost unchanged. And the exterior is all any of the people in this thread will ever see; I very much doubt that any of them will ever hear Mass at the cathedral.
