Dynamics in Nature

Registrace 30. 04. 2020
Dynamics in Nature is about photography and videography. We feel inspired by being part of nature and the dynamic changes associated to it. There is the emotion of light changing how we experience nature. Our focus is landscape/wildlife photography and videography. We feature our most intense sets at this channel. If you like them feel free to contact us through the email contact of this channel. We have several playlists that feature different aspects such as "Underwater Videography", "Landscape & Travel" and "Nikon Raw Videography".
Since we are using on land the Nikon Z system (Z6/Z6II and Z9) we will also add some short tips on how we are using this system to get the most out of it. The Nikon raw video format in 8.3 K offers an incredible resolution combined with an amazing color depth. In combination with modern video equipment we also explore more exotic aspects such as remote controlled videography. Under water we are using Sony and in the air DJI drones.

Nikon Z9 Wildlife – The Muskox Challenge
The Muskox (Ovibos Moschatus) is an arctic animal weighing between 200 to 400 kg, having a shoulder height of up to 1.5 m and a body length of about 2 to 2.5 m. It lived throughout Europe during the last ice age. It got extinct in Eurasia roughly at the time when the last mammoth vanished about 3000 to 4000 years ago. However, it survived in Greenland and parts of Canada. In Europe it can be only found high up in the mountains of Norway - the Dovrefjell where it was reintroduced after World War II with a current population of about 200-300 individuals. We were hiking frequently in the summer to see them. But somehow from a photography point of view one hast to photograph these animals in the winter and at best during a snowstorm connecting to the ice-age heritage of these amazing animals. So, we decided to reach out to this ice age relict in a photography trip withstanding cold weather, deep snow, and wind.

Hikes range somewhere to 20 km in the summer and 5-7 km in the winter covering typically a 300-400 m height difference. In view of that careful thoughts were needed to decide what goes into my new Atlas backpack for a hike in winter wonderland. From all the equipment I had with me - including the 500 F/4 prime - I found the following combination most useful. Nikon Z9 initially mounted with the Nikon Z180-600 + 1.4 Tc. Nikon Z6 mounted with the Nikon Z24-120 mm, and my most beloved Nikon AF-S 300 mm F/2.8 prime lens plus optional 1.4 Tc yielding a 420 mm F/4 when needed and a F/2.8 for low light. This way I had the best of both worlds. The zooms cover the landscape range and distant subjects. Since the recommended distances to the Muskoxen are 200 m, I expected the 840 mm to be important.
Most amazingly, as promised, and just for the sunset the storm suddenly disappeared as quickly as it did arrive, and we got great sunset shots of landscapes and the Muskox. Here the Z 24-120 and the 300 mm F/2.8 were wonderful to have and even though there was a point while hiking up the mountains when I was asking myself - why are you carrying this prime? I must say in the end of the day it was worth it! After spending 4 hours with the Muskoxen, we had to hike back using the remaining light to reach our parking.
We wish to declare that we paid ourselves for the complete trip and all associated costs.

Review and use case - Nikon Z9 and the AF-S 300 mm F/2.8 VR II Is a lens being released in 2009 for digital DSLR still an option for the mirrorless Z-mount high-resolution and high-speed camera age ? Another great place to photograph Puffins and other seabirds is Gjógv on the Faroe islands. Different to Mykines, you do not need to travel by boat and you have two different nice photo spots on the northern side of the cliff and when shooting across the picturesque little natural harbor. See Puffins on the take off and touch down. They are skilled hunters for fish. An amazing place to be at th...

Thank you !
Super video, by the way, did you know that the parameters of your camera can be viewed using the Tornado NKN program? A friend recommended her to me, and I recommended her to you.
Thank you for this information.
Really nice, thanks! (For me, the iPhone saturation undermines the classy photos!)
This is for sure true. It was essentially the 18 kg and space in my backpack preventing me from carrying my bigger DJI gimbal for use with the Z6/Z9 up the mountain.
Great
Thank you for commenting
This is a journey to another world where time has wiggled a little but mostly stood still for 200,000 years. What has changed is the ability to capture this world through photography that leaves you awestruck while reminding us of the world's natural beauty, which is well worth cherishing. Well done, Dynamics in Nature team, capturing these beautiful images for posterity.
🥰These are really wonderful words! Thank you for appreciating our video and your emotional thoughts on it - you are very welcome, and we hope to serve you with more exciting and inspiring content.

Beautiful
Thank you !!
Wonderful ! thanks for sharing. Do you know when is their reproduction period during the year ?
From our own experience - we saw the bulls fighting end of August to middle of September - we even took some footage. We never saw the mating as such. Depending on the temperature the Muskoxen can be still quite high up in the mountains as they typically prevent higher temperatures. We had typical hiking trips to the the groups of female Muskoxen of up to 20 km (10 km into the park and 10 km back). There are mountain huts (Reinheimen and Snowheimen) which you can book via DNT. Kinge, Lina, and Jo Andrè can certainly provide you with more information (see links).

@@DynNat Thank you very much. This will help a lot.
Great comparison! What settings did you use for OS on the dock for best results?
Hi Abi, the best results are for me "Dynamic View". I have currently in both C settings dynamic view. In C1 with fast AF and in C2 with precise AF. Sometimes I use the dock to also limit the AF range in C2 in particular when shooting with the Z6 that is not so strong in subject detection. The best results obtained in the video are also with Dynamic View the other setting at that time was Steady View. However, I do not use this one anymore.
Beautiful flying birds capture. Amazing.
Thank you - I am happy that you have enjoyed the video !
Nice and beautiful video. Thanks for sharing & big like
Thank you for your support !
I have been shooting with the fantastic Sigma 500mm f4 sports for four years now, D500, D850 and Z9. Tack sharp with the Sigma 1.4x TC and without.
Thank you for sharing your experience and I could not agree more. The Sigma is clearly sharper than the 500 pf, which is a sharp lens already. This helps when using the lens with Tc's - to me the performance of this lens with both Tc's (1.4 and 2.0) is remarkable when stopping it down by 1/3 of a stop.
truly amazing 🤩
More to follow on Friday ! :)
