"Play A Simple Melody" (Words & Music by Irving Berlin) was from the first stage musical that Berlin wrote ("Watch Your Step", circa 1914). This was by far the most remembered song from that, and one of the few true examples of "counterpoint" in American popular music: a melody running against a second melody, each with independent lyrics.
Two of the four Champlin brothers, eldest Danny (85) and youngest Denny (71) have been playing music and singing together off and on for almost 60-years. Danny, who went on to have a career in the insurance industry, inspired Denny to become a professional musician, music teacher, and music retailer. The two got together September 6th (2023) for an impromptu “jam session” to record some of their old favorites. Take a listen and enjoy!
