I gotta stop finding songs that remind me of my dumb ex-friends. Heh Also my brother a little in the "try to break me, make me strong" part, but he's not dumb. Just a jerk but I love him anyways because he's a sweetheart deep down. Lol.

When I first heard this song I didn't fully understand... But now I do. I may not suffer from depression, but my anxiety sucks. It sees danger where there is none. It makes me feel like I'm in danger, even when I'm not. It can alter the way I view things and therefore alter my reality. I can know the truth, even know how it'll end, but my anxiety can still have effect on me. It is horrible, but I've gotten so used to it that I'm essentially numb to the fact that this thing has such power over me that it is ruining my life. There have only been a very select few times it has had no effect on me. It's strange, being so used to the darkness that you can no longer tell it from what is supposed to be "normal" because it is your normal. Then when I find myself less anxious over an extended period of time, I get really worried because I'm not worried. On top of that, the anxiety has made good things seem like nightmares. Those two factors make happy hurt. But it is off and on, anxious and not anxious, and I do find myself being a generally postively-minded person a lot (when not tied to anxiety), and sometimes knowing how the best can turn out can make the anxiety worse. It is strange. But I find myself wishing it won't go away... That brings a whole new meaning to these lines: "If I had to pick between the way that I am and the way that everybody else seems to pretend I wouldn't consider it, not for even a second Between psycho and sanity, it's not even a question My favorite parts of myself seem to make the least sense All the cracks in my skin, they just let the light in"

I know this has been up very long, I still resonate with this song as I'm scared to let my depression go as its helped me cope and survive. It's still a part of me, but I need help letting it go. I know everyone is different but I'm not sure how to let it go and be just myself. I still struggle and would appreciate some advice or direction if anyone is willing to help of course. I'd be extremely grateful 😊

The first time I heard this, I didn't think I related (though it's still a great song), until, of course, I remembered my anxiety. My anxiety has always been the only one dragging me down and hurting me, but it has been wrong, all along. The line, "I never lost a war unless I didn't fight it" hits even harder when I compare it to my anxiety, being as it's the one that stops me from fighting wars, which, in this case, is doing something I want to do and would be good to do. This song makes me feel stronger

I've been so numb to everything for so long but I'm finally starting to feel again after many many years. No therapy, no meds, just finally being happy with my husband. This song fits so well with how I felt around the time the numbness started fading

Recently, I finished EMDR counseling for one of the many traumas I've faced. Unfortunately a lot didn't qualify for the place I was at for it, but I cleared a memory. And I've never felt more powerful in my life. It's a the best feeling to experience, to finally let go. To move on. To let it only be a memory.
