I was hit by a car when I was walking home from school, when I was 13. It was doing 50 in a 30mph zone and the doctor at the hospital said "you're very lucky, 7 out of ten people die being hit at that speed". Well I had a mangled left arm (which the doctors eventually saved) and a horrendous head injury and it did change my personality. I had been a happy, healthy little girl and after that I trusted nothing. I refused to go to school for six months, my mother home schooled me. I just couldn't cross the road any more, something inside me kicked in and I just couldn't. And just like Richard Hammond, I don't remember the incident at all. I just remember being in hospital and my parents looking very, very scared.

If I had a nickel for every time Richard Hammond wrecked an expensive supercar and somehow managed to survive the crash with relatively minimal injuries, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

While u R in a coma you have some weird dreams. I dreamt I was lying in my hospital bed in the kitchen I work in and waking up in the morning heating the chefs coming in to prep for the days work. I was just doped up on so much pain killers apparently.

My favorite thing in the book is about every minute or two he would say to Mindy, "Wouldn't it be nice to go out on the balcony and have a sneaky cigarette?" Goes to show how much people love cigarettes! He thought they were staying in a hotel and outside the hospital room window there was a balcony. He couldn't remember from minute to minute that he had just suggested they go outside and have a cigarette.

I had very bad head injury in fall almost died 12hr unconscious 4 years ago,short term memory like Snapchat totally shot long term Is incredibly good,Im 73,take Cbd,Lions mane and drink water im very lucky impossible to explain!

There are alot of comments saying that he does not remember this interview. I want to say I had a traumatic experience and I think my brain decided to forget it to protect me, but the n it continued forgetting more and more stuff, at some point with pstd it's like it shatters a layer of ice and if you are not careful it keeps shattering and swallowing more and more pieces. Im no doctor but I dont think it was his concussion but his mind protecting him

Richard Hammond was still very much broken here. His autobiography is fascinating and he admits he doesn’t remember this or the first series of Top Gear following the crash. He very much regrets doing this and coming back too soon.

Knowing he almost died, it feels a bit weird how upbeat the interview is.

I found this from an article about his crash: "The Health & Safety Executive report on the accident stated that Hammond's "instantaneous reaction to the tyre blow out seems to have been that of a competent high performance car driver, namely to brake the car and to try to steer into the skid. Immediately afterwards he also seems to have followed his training and to have pulled back on the main parachute release lever, thus shutting down the jet engine and also closing the jet and afterburner fuel levers. The main parachute did not have time to deploy before the car ran off the runway." The report suggests that the accident may not have been recoverable even if the driver had reacted with no more delay than was humanly possible." He is truly a ballsy guy behind the wheel of a car and, to his credit, doesn't let his past crashes get in the way of him still racing.

Im so happy he is still here and can still do what he loves. I watch Grand Tour and Top Gear when i'm at my worst just because I know it makes me feel better. Richard Hammond is like a hero to me.

As annoying as Clarkson is, Hammond really is the most incredulous of all TG hosts.
