If you really look at this fight from start to finish…you see Chavez beat this man gradually… history shows… Taylor was NEVER the same!!! These are rare fights where it would have been better to have been knocked out by a single blow in the early rounds. But when you sustain a consistent beating for 12 rounds… sadly the effects are long term

@@richardsalazar7842 I don't disagree with you that Chavez was inflicting more physical damage on Taylor over the course of the fight than Taylor inflicted on him. But round by round, it's impossible for me to see an argument for Taylor not winning that fight if he survives those final couple of seconds. As far as Taylor never being the same after this fight. I disagree. He won a world title at Welterweight not long after this fight. Did Chavez take something out of him in this fight? I don't doubt that he did. But I think Taylor could have survived those final couple of seconds if given the chance, and if he did, he wins that fight. I'm not arguing some grand conspiracy that Richard Steele screwed Taylor over. I think a reasonable ref in that situation who looked at Taylor might have come to the conclusion he was done (especially if his eyes were still rolling around in his head). But I can think of several refs, like Steve Smoger or Frank Cappuccino, or more recently Tony Weeks, who would have given Taylor a chance to survive those last couple of seconds. That's what I think Steele should have done, but I wasn't in his shoes and he made his call.

I understand that both these fighters were great and in their prime. Why would you want to fight a boxer of Hagler's magnitude with only one hand ?? And, that was Hearn's power 🔋 😳 hand. He virtually had zero chance of beating Hagler after he broke his right hand. The ring doctor should have stopped ✋️ the fight at that point 👉, even if it meant Hagler winning by a TKO. With a broken right hand, Hearn loses that fight ten out of ten times ⏲️. You fight him at your best and in a rematch. If he beats you then, so be it. But with Hearns power 🔋 hand ✋️ MIA, he had no chance.

Wilder could've fought vlad, aj and whyte during his reign but chose to rematch ortiz for some strange reason...

Ortiz got banned before he had his mandatory, then ortiz had the opportunity to face aj over ruiz but wanted too much money, then he had a rematch with wilder instead and for less than half the money he was asking for...

He was more well known, more tape on him was out there for his challengers to see by then later end of his career, therefore making his victories all the more impressive. Mugabi medalled at the Olympics, was an undefeated terrifying KO machine & he had a management team who took down Dolald Curry in more favorable circumstances than Hagler was facing. Hagler was RIPE for the picking n that management team picked him, make no mistake about that, Mickey Duff wasnt just a great promoter, he was also a great cornerman especially in big fights, he knew how to get the best outa his fighters, similar to Angelo Dundee. Hagler was nothing less than magnificent. Throughout his entire reign only Leonard & Duran went the distance with him & only Hearns & Duran didnt show immediate signs of being absolutely broken by him. 3 All Time Greats & Leonard was the best of those 3, maybe it was inconsistency in his activity but it was immediately after Hagler he started showing signs of not being Superman. Ignore Mugabi's record after facing Hagler, ignore Minters, Antuofermo's & Hamsho's, look at their records going into the Hagler fight/s. He BROKE them, he broke Sibson & Roldan too, the were never the same fighter after meeting him. Hagler more so than any other MW in the modern era absolutely DESTROYED good if not possibly great fighters, you literally had to be an all time great to recover from fighting him. And for all of the above, I say the later part of his reign was most impressive, if any part of his reign has to be singled out at all. Hagler was the face of Boxing until Leonard returned & then Mike Tyson emerged. Not even Larry Holmes was more recognised than him globally, he definitely was no secret.

I believe after he defeated William Lee that’s when you started to hear more buzz about him potentially fighting Hearns or Leonard. Remember he didn’t start making those big paydays until he fought the other kings.

@@Toe2ToeBoxingTalk He definitely was talked about, he literally shook up the world with what he did to Minter, he was irrefutably THEE man on the global scene after that. Maybe in America he didnt get as much shine, because he was an American among Americans, but globally he was seen as being something VERY special. I was a 6 yr old kid in Ireland n I had just started boxing, I rem seeing him DESTROYING Minter n the shock it caused, not because he won, we all knew Americans had good boxers, but because of how devastatingly good he was. Minter was very popular in Britain & Britain wasnt very popular in Ireland due to when they were doing in Ireland at that time so it was a low key celebration for us, among casual boxing fans & among people involved in the sport. Leonard, was Leonard, a Golden boy with a midas touch. Duran was the ferocious wee man who beat Ken Buchanan from Scotland (Britain) so he was popular among us for that, & then he beat Leonard. Duran was seen as an anti hero outa a Western. Hearns in 1980 was the least of them, then he got beat by Leonard. It wasnt until he OBLITERATED Duran that he was considered to be top tier again. Hagler was considered a bit of a monster by everyone this side of the Atlantic, especially after he absolutely schooled the very promising & exciting Sibson who had put the final nail in the coffin of Minters career. Hagler was definitely highly regarded internationally, the Brit fans hated him, we loved him & he just kept on winning. Hagler may have been over looked & under appreciated before he won the title, but once he won it he left the boxing world in no doubt, there was only one Middleweight on the planet & his name was Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
