The amount of Nazis in the comment section is crazy. He should've sang the actual anthem. It is true that the first stanza wasn't created by the Nazis, but by liberal reformers in the 1870's who wanted a united Germany instead of a confederation of kingdoms. But the Nazis changed the meaning of the stanza and used deutschland uber alles to describe Germany above other nations, rather than Germany above the petty kings. As a german myself, yea, this stanza was rightfully scrapped and I don't have any reason to go back.

Why are people defending that the first and second stanza are not associated with nazi germany? Every conflicted and occupied nation in europe agrees that the first two stanza's hold holds a dark memory of past NOBODY wants to remember. "Germany over everything", meaning the ideology of Germany in that time, which was a Third Reich, to conquer all other non-compatriots and to eradicate those who did not fit in Hitler's Übermensch framework. A great majority of the current European population, have strong opinions against all Nazi affiliated articles, so it is not just out of respect for Germans that only the third stanza is sung as the anthem, but out of remorse and compassion for those nations.

And his pronunciation is horrid. The correct name of the anthem is ‘Das Lied der Deutschen,’ and the first stanza has nothing to do with the Third Reich. The lyrics were written in 1841 and ‘Das Lied der Deutschen’ became the national anthem in 1922 during the Weimar Republic.
