Hi Dave, my husband and I have only just discovered Skellig. Just a few months ago I recalled your name from my memory banks and googled you. Its our favorite album, played loud on our Focal floor standers. Is mesmerising. The other night I just watched his face as he absorbed it. White Ladder has been in my head since 2000 and I never realised it was you. I found it very hard to watch you back then. Now I know why it was disquieting. I have been playing since about 12y/o. I used to jam with my mum's non-trad folk band as a kid. I devoured the Paul Simon songbook. In 1985 I had a Tokai Strat and a Roland SH101. 1990 I went to Uni, and discovered loads more music and started playing again. I was in a Cajun band playing fiddle in 2002. And 2005 to '17 I sang and played guitar as well as fiddle, doing songs like, when you come back down Nickel Creek , in folk session sing arounds. We played Babylon ! Then I lost my ear. I thought it was menopause but after having a huge stress reaction when I realised you had become David Gray I stopped taking Montelucast , and I am "me" again. I had no idea what it was doing to me. You saved me from myself in 1985, and sort-of again in 2024. I've had a mad tangle of a life. Not laid out like a garden, there has been plenty of room for the wild. Perhaps with that though, there is no final scene to end this story. I have been revisiting my "greatest hits" , the people who wowed me all the way back to the Urban Road days. I have had so much love in my life. There are some bad things too, but if that gets too much I put all the "love" into an imaginary bliss-duvet and it warms my soul. Dave, I have a bit of you in that bliss-mix, under a willow tree one damp night, 1985, your eyes like flint on a stone.
Hi Dave , You are still Dave ! I see that now. We were under a big willow tree a damp night ,1985. we never said goodbye. Dave, how can you be David Gray now? You hardly ever made a sound. I was a (beautiful?) idiot. Now I'm a clever doctor, and just as lovely, lol 💚Did we turn into our opposite selves ? ♥ someone should sing that one💚♥
Can’t even express how great this band is. I hope they live forever.
*Promosm* 😄
It feels good to be on the right path
I have never fallen so deeply in love with a band in a such a short amount of time as I have with Lord Huron. And I know they have a lot of western influence, but I separate them from today's country music genre. It would be odd to me if Ben himself considered themselves to be Country music. I feel they are unique and break down genres, I don't think they can be called any one genre. But I certainly wouldn't say Country.
These guys (huron) are the baddest dudes walking the earth right now. No questions asked
This is a great band. They write great songs but more importantly perform them live so well. Congratulations.
Beautiful music!!
Great interview. Just recently found Lord Huron's music and love it. Ben is a very relaxed person it seems. Enjoyed listening.
Visual AND musical artist.....maybe not as prolific but as brilliant as Robyn Hitchcock. I'm diving into Long Lost, hoping some is as perfect as "Your Other Life".
Oh yeah! And it is!
The album cover artwork by Ben and the accompanying video's are brilliant. Here's my take on the head. Our brains are made up of layers of memories , blended , yet on their own unique time lines. This album manages to grab different layers and blend those memories into something nostalgic , yet new. Then I look at it again and I see Montgomery Burns.
𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐦 😃
I fvcking LOVE Lord Huron.
These guys are incredible live. Their music is amazing and they are true performers.
great interview👍👍👍
Criminally underrated band. Greatness.
Agreed.
Go Blue, Go Green, go to California!
Great Interview. Thanks for posting!
:)
As a painter, I’m so glad Martin asked Ben about his visual art inspirations. I’m in awe with Ben’s visual and sonic creations. So jealous that he can do both so well!
Another great example of what a superb interviewee he is. Most radio interviewers are racing to the next question to try and get the interviewee to say something interesting. This time, you can visibly see the interviewer thinking 'how do I get this guy to shut up for a minute?' 😀
i had the privilege of meeting ben’s mom when i saw them in raleigh, she was such a sweet lady❤️ no question as to where ben got his humbleness :)
Whoa that's actually so cool.
I just love this band. Saw them first on James Corden's Late Late Show, summer 2021. Their sound blew me away. Their vibe is so unique. Now have all their CD's. Also saw them on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show, summer 2021, same thing.....unbelievable artists. I wanted to see them live in Bend, Oregon.....but too much covid-19 all around. I'm a nurse and we had too many people dying at our hospital in September 2021.
Hes like hanging out with an old friend. No wonder I love his music
Thanks for posting this interview. I recently discovered this band and just love their music, it inspires me so much. Really fun to see the artist sharing his thoughts, he seems like such a down to earth dude, how cool. The interviewer here seemed so nice too, you can tell he was really enjoying this interview, loved seeing his excitement. Enjoyed this all around, thank you!!!
So much depth in all their layers. I really love some of the short films they've done. Been a fan for a long time just drove (from Michigan) my 3 teenage boys to see them at a beautiful night at Asbury park 🤯
Awesome interview! Love Benjo! ✨⚡️❤️
great album! great band! just hit play and let it go
YES!!!!
Yup! It’s amazing and all their albums are like that!!
would love to see them live in Ky!!
Lord Huron going big! Great to see such a humble, class act, doing well in music.
4:42 Special guest appearance
So talented. Such great depth. Really enjoyed this interview! Long Lost!
12:26 Did Ben hiccup during this interview ?
Hahaha
I thought that was a yodel. 😮
@7:12 Roy Orbison meets Marty Robbins meets Glen Campbell is the vibe I get.
Wonderfully put.
Hear a bit of the Everly Brothers as well.
great🖤
Great interview. Interesting to hear about the music Ben grew up listening to. I think Ben's parents and myself are of the same age. Our son grew up listening to Queen lots & I can still picture him in his carseat wailing out "Oh mama mia, mama mia, mama mia, let me go". Can't wait to see LH in September in Philly! You have been long lost!
Lol... my kids, too!
